The Rent 20th anniversary tour coming to National Theatre in DC

The Rent 20th Anniversary Tour will be coming back to play where the original touring production made its Washington-area premiere 20 years ago, the National Theatre in DC. The production will run for one week only from June 20 through 25, 2017. In 1996, this original rock musical opened on Broadway to ecstatic reviews, forever changing the way America looks at theater. All these years later, Rent still speaks to audiences all over the world. Now this award-winning masterpiece is returning to the stage with an exciting 20th anniversary touring production.

The musical follows the lives of seven struggling artists who are striving to follow their dreams without selling out. With inspiring messages of hope and joy, this timeless celebration of friendship reminds people to measure their lives by love. Evan Ensign will be restaging the 20th anniversary tour based on the original direction of Michael Greif. Marlies Yearby is choreographer.

Tickets start at $48 and are available at, group orders of 10 or more may be placed by calling (855) 486-2516. There is a day-of-performance lottery for a limited amount of prime orchestra cash only seats which cost $20 each (limit two per person) held at the theater two hours before each performance. The $20 ticket tradition began when the show moved from a small downtown theater in New York to Broadway after a sold-out run in 1996. The producers of Rent say they are committed to continuing that tradition in every city on this tour.
