Seismologists Are Warning That A Catastrophic Mega-Earthquake Could Hit USA Very Soon

Amidst panic over planets that don’t exist and conspiracy theories about the moon landing, one headline announced a more down-to-Earth sort of doom. “Deadly earthquakes could hit a BILLION people next year because of Earth’s slowing rotation,” warned The Daily Mail.

While Nibiru still doesn’t exist (and the Moon landing definitely happened) the last example was based on actual research published in August in Geophysical Research Letters, where researchers put forward that by looking through the earthquake record, they could predict periods of time where large earthquakes (greater than a magnitude 7.0) might be more likely to occur.

Before we get too far into the research, let’s get a few things straight. No one can predict an individual earthquake with any degree of accuracy. And it’s important to remember that an earthquake’s deadliness isn’t just determined by its magnitude, but also depends on how many people live nearby, whether they have any warning systems, and how stringent their earthquake building codes are. And finally, because we can’t predict exactly where earthquakes will strike, there’s no way to tell exactly how many people will be impacted by large earthquakes throughout the next year.

In the August paper, geophysicists Rebecca Bendick and Roger Bilham started looking at the 117-year long record of earthquakes around the world. Like many who came before, they found a random distribution of earthquakes over time. Then they decided to look at different metrics related to those earthquakes.

“What we started with was the idea that maybe earthquakes are more like neurons or batteries, in the sense that they have a certain amount of time required that charges them up and give them a potential to fail, and after that charging interval, they can fail at any time,” Bendick says.

Then, in a presentation at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America, the authors built on the paper, presenting results that they say show the number of common large-scale earthquakes rising on a roughly 32-year cycle. They started looking for geophysical events that might line up with that pattern and found a match. The events lined up with a tiny slowing in the Earth’s rotation, which happened about every 32 years (sometimes more, sometimes less). Roughly five years after the slowdown, they saw an uptick in the record of large earthquakes.

“This is kind of a precious and exciting possibility in earthquake science,” Bendick says. “There are no other signals that I know of that lead an earthquake cycle in a way that would be useful for doing forecasting, or understanding in advance how the risk changes over time.”

Bendick notes that they’re not precisely tying individual large earthquakes to changes in the Earth’s rotation, but simply saying that they might be more statistically likely to happen 5-6 years after these millisecond-long slowdowns. A slowdown of that nature happened a few years ago, which means that if their prediction is right, another bunch of large earthquakes should register in the next few years.

Ken Hudnut is a research geophysicist with the USGS who works on earthquake risk programs and was not involved in the study. “The main thing I came away thinking was real old-fashioned scientific ‘lets check this’ kind of thoughts,” Hudnut says, noting that correlation is not the same as causation. In other words, the fact that a slowdown happened to coincide with the uptick in large quakes does not mean the two things are related, much less that one caused the other.

The hope is that if they do turn out to be linked, these activity forecasts might offer some warning for an inherently unpredictable global phenomenon. In the abstract of the presentation, Bilham and Bendick write: “Whatever the mechanism, the 5-6 year advanced warning of increased seismic hazards afforded by the first derivative of the LoD is fortuitous, and has utility in disaster planning.”

Hudnut is skeptical of how much actual utility the advanced notice offers to the disaster planning community. “I work with disaster planners. That’s a lot of what I do,” Hudnut says. “If I’m an emergency planner on a regional or local level in the state of California, what I’m thinking about is how can we roll trucks. Are we going to open firehouse doors and roll trucks out, yes or no?”

In the event of an earthquake, emergency responders want as much mobility as possible, and that means not having to dig their trucks out of the rubble of crushed buildings, and making sure their staff has a plan in place so that they can start helping their communities as fast as possible. That kind of precise, actionable information is not available in this broad forecast, which doesn’t pinpoint precise times and locations for earthquake activity in the coming year.

“A five year heads-up on global earthquake activity might seem like it has utility in disaster planning, and maybe on some level, it does. But at the level where I work, it does not,” he adds.

“They’ve put some rather bold claims out about earthquake activity increasing next year, which to me seems like a testable prediction, but in the all the tests of all the earthquake predictions before this, they haven’t tested out. I don’t believe that this will test out either.” Hudnut says.

Bendick says that instead of that kind of granular information, she hopes that their forecast might simply provide an added incentive for communities that already live in earthquake-prone areas to gather their emergency kits and make plans in case an earthquake does hit.

Both Hudnut and Bendick say that time will tell just how accurate and useful the findings might be.

“To me, this is a really fun and exciting and beautiful example of how science works,” Bendick says. “We put out this hypothesis, and two things are going to happen. One is that all of our colleagues are going to try to figure out why we’re wrong. That’s how it’s supposed to work. The other is that it’s a pretty bold forecast. By the end of next year, and certainly by 2020, we’ll have a solid test of the findings.”

Mobile phone cancer warning as malignant brain tumours double

Fresh fears have been raised over the role of mobile phones in brain cancer after new evidence revealed rates of a malignant type of tumour have doubled in the last two decades.

Charities and scientists have called on the Government to heed longstanding warnings about the dangers of radiation after a fresh analysis revealed a more “alarming” trend in cancers than previously thought.

However, the new study, published in the Journal of Public Health and Environment, has stoked controversy among scientists, with some experts saying the disease could be caused by other factors.

The research team set out to investigate the rise of an aggressive and often fatal type of brain tumour known as Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM).

They analysed 79,241 malignant brain tumours over 21 years, finding that cases of GBM in England have increased from around 1,250 a year in 1995 to just under 3,000.

The study is the first recent effort of its kind to analyse in detail the incidence of different types of malignant tumours.

The scientists at the Physicians’ Health Initiative for Radiation and Environment (PHIRE) say the increase of GBM has till now been masked by the overall fall in incidence of other types of brain tumour.

Why Elon Musk Is Warning Us About The Misuse Of AI

Next Story

To the casual mainstream headline-browser, Elon Musk is a doomsayer, foreboding that Artificial Intelligence will eventually exceed human intelligence in all respects and, motivated by its own intelligent self-interest, AI will eventually bring about the enslavement or even demise of the human race.

Alas, no.

No, that’s not what Elon Musk is saying. And no, that scenario is not even possible. Not now. Not ever.

Understanding AI

Let us come to an understanding about one thing. Artificial Intelligence is not intelligence in the way that we as human beings know it and experience it. As biological entities, we are all inextricably (and invisibly) connected to a universal intelligence, the foundation of all that is, which governs the reality we live in. Our personal intelligence is actually a limited extension of this universal intelligence, each of us a different facet of it, who all nonetheless have access to its limitless possibilities as we learn and evolve.

An Artificial Intelligence entity does not have access to universal intelligence. It is limited to the scope of intelligence of the person who programs it. And then again limited by the particular instructions that it has been given by said programmer. In a way that’s good news. But it’s also where the trouble really begins.

Recursive Self-Improvement

When asked why AI is dangerous, Musk responds:

If there’s a super-intelligence—particularly if it’s engaged in recursive self-improvement—and its optimization or utility function is something that is detrimental to humanity, then it will have a very bad effect.

Recursive self-improvement here refers to AI programs that enable the AI entity to write new code for itself, delivering new instructions it can follow in the future, essentially ‘improving’ the execution of its algorithmically-governed purpose or mission.

What is dangerous about recursive self-improvement, for Musk, is that it can have unintended consequences. Since the human programmer is no longer writing the code and therefore is not reflecting on the impact of the operational instructions as they are writing it, these instructions are bereft of considerations for the nature of the human experience and the sanctity of human life.

Programmer Limitations

So the first problem for Musk, then, would be the potential ignorance or short-sightedness of AI programmers who, although working with the best intentions, do not forecast all the possible outcomes of a machine’s recursive self-improvement mechanisms.

The second problem, though, is perhaps even more dangerous. It centers on the prospects that high-level AI research and development, by its nature, can attract the type of people who do not have humanity’s best interests at heart.

Take Demis Hassabis, for example, a leading creator of advanced artificial intelligence and co-founder of the mysterious London laboratory DeepMind. He once came up with a video game called ‘Evil Genius’, featuring a malevolent scientist who creates a doomsday device to achieve world domination. Although in itself this might not be an indictment of the man’s character, it does give reason for concern as to how the technological wizardry of Hassabis and others like him will manifest into the empowerment of artificial super-intelligence in our lives.

Musk is aware of this. As a Vanity Fair article notes, he was an investor in DeepMind, not for a return on his money but rather to keep a wary eye on the arc of AI, giving him more visibility into the accelerated rate at which the technology was improving.

Concentration of Power

But even this is not Musk’s chief concern. In a video interview Musk underscores how unregulated control of AI is being amassed in the hands of a powerful few. He describes an initiative he has spearheaded to counteract this:

With a few others I created OpenAI, which is a non-profit, actually, and I think the governance structure here is important, because you want to make sure that there was not some fiduciary duty to generate profit off of the AI technology that is developed.

The intent with OpenAI is to democratize AI power… Lord Acton <said>, “Freedom consists of the distribution of power and despotism consists in its concentration,” and so I think it’s important if we have this incredible power of AI that it not be concentrated in the hands of a few, and potentially lead to a world that we don’t want.

When asked to describe the current dangers of such a concentration of power, Musk stated there was only ‘one company’ that he was worried about, but he did not even dare to name it. Of course this company was Google, who actually bought DeepMind as part of their AI shopping spree in 2014.

It’s Not The Machine

The brunt of Musk’s warning to people—and the reason for his OpenAI initiative—is not so much that an otherwise democratic and well-meaning leadership will lose control of its AI functioning, but that AI functioning will be under the control of despotic rule:

Musk: I don’t know a lot of people who love the idea of living under a despot.

Interviewer: And the despot would be the computer?

Musk: (wryly) Or the people controlling the computer.

Should We Be Watching Videos Of Human Atrocity? Warning: This May Make You Cry

Next Story

There is a video that has been circulating online that depicts a young girl in Syria, perhaps 3, being led down a concrete corridor into a busy room where organ excisions appear to be taking place on other young children. Amid the bustle of surgeons and medical appliances, the young girl walks around in a scared, confused panic before she is lifted, crying, onto an operating table, and is held down as a blood pan is slipped under her.

I have purposely left a link to the video at the end of this article, in the hope that we can have this very difficult conversation before you decide whether to watch it. Please know that the video brought me to tears, and writing this article in itself has been difficult. But I believe it’s an important conversation to have. It is likely that in the coming months and years, we will be confronted with more of this kind of information than ever before.

The Question Of Authenticity

For many, wondering whether a video such as this is authentic or not is the first thing that comes to mind. I would maintain that this question, while valid, is not of concern to this discussion. We are safe to assume that this video is authentic in the sense that it portrays something, the likes of which—without a shred of doubt—is really going on in our world.

Evidence of forced child organ harvesting and similar acts of human atrocity now abound on the internet. For those whose minds are open and who are willing to look at and read the information available at their fingertips, the proof is compelling, even if we go only a small ways down the rabbit hole.

This brings us to the main question here: if we are honest and devoted seekers of the truth, are we duty-bound to bear witness to the most heinous acts of human depravity on the planet? And if so, to what end?

There is no simple answer to this question. But if we can create the broader context here, it might help to provide some structure within which we can ground our individual decisions.

The Broader Context

From a spiritual point of view, we appear in the world as separate individuals, but are actually one organism, one being, this ‘human race’ of ours. The course of human evolution at this point in history is to move away from what separates us and towards seeing ourselves and living together as one.

In order for this to happen, we first need to admit to the wholeness of our collective self, which includes the light and the shadow of human behavior. It is important to seek out knowledge of what is truly going on, so that we can acknowledge it as part of the current state of our collective being.

Unfortunately, our global ‘leaders’ and the powerful forces pulling their strings are doing everything they can to hide these shadow activities from us. Their strategies play into the difficulty we have believing these acts are occurring, our inbred knee-jerk reactions to look the other way or change the subject. It is helpful to examine what actually happens when brave people do bring these atrocities to light  to government-sanctioned organizations like the UN’s Human Rights Council:

Questioner: Dr. Askarf, a Syrian doctor, working in north Syria, reported a staggering number of 18,000 children whose organs have been harvested, mainly in Turkish refugee camps. In Turkish hospitals, when they go for treatment for minor injuries, many of them perished and their organs were totally taken out. What is the Human Rights Council and other investigations doing about this? Why should this come from a doctor who works there, not from the United Nations?

It would be natural to expect the U.N. Representative to show some shock, some emotion, some regard for reports of this kind of abomination. But no. Instead, the usual excuses for the U.N.’s ineffectiveness are rolled out with the matter-of-factness of a ham sandwich:

UN Representative: Well first of all, as you know, because of our limited presence on the ground, we don’t have any first-hand information about the reports you just cited. We have tried, through the work of the Commission of Inquiry, dealing with human rights, and reporting to the Human Rights Council, to get as much information as we can, through the sources we have at our disposal, about violation of human rights in Syria. And so, the Commission of Inquiry has produced a number of reports, as you have seen, and the Human Rights Council has evaluated them. It’s on the basis of what the Commission of Inquiry can acquire, and information that it’s able to verify, that the human rights council is trying to act.

Do we get this? Do we really get what’s happening here? We are being told that the largest united body of all nations, bringing to bear the entirety of the established governing and military powers in the world, are unable to go in and verify first-hand reports of human atrocity, let alone take actions to stop those atrocities?

This statement in itself should be enough for us to see the truth about our governing bodies. Those who hold the most power in the world have no intention or desire to stop human rights abuses and the perpetration of human atrocity. The only reason organizations such as the UNHRC were set up is so that people can say to themselves, ‘Oh, we have a human rights council doing everything it can to look into these matters, therefore I don’t have to.’

But why in the name of human decency would these powers not earnestly want to investigate and prevent such human atrocities from happening? Because they are the main perpetrators and sponsors of these atrocities, for their own purposes. And activities such as forced organ harvesting, slave trafficking, pedophilia, human experiments, and ritual torture and human sacrifice will continue, unabated, until the light of our consciousness is shone upon them.

We Are In Denial

Before the emergence of the internet, it would have been much easier to hide the truth about human atrocities to the general public. The proliferation of information was much more controlled. Text books written for school children about the early days of Canada, for example, with rugged fur traders boldly civilizing the wilderness, never spoke about the atrocities inflicted upon the native peoples. And so it was that those in power authored the skewed versions not only of our history, but our daily chronicles as well.

But the top-down management of content and the characterization of events in today’s era of internet and social media is much more difficult. Yes, technology has afforded those in control much more sophisticated tools of surveillance, suppression, and manipulation; but on the whole, there are many more opportunities for ardent and discerning seekers of truth to know what is really going on.

The question is, have we arrived yet to the place where we feel we can actually handle the truth? It’s a question that continues to impact the process by which we are going to come to know ourselves in our fullness. Many of us are still in denial, unwilling to fathom the scope of human darkness. However, as painful as it may be, each of us as individuals will eventually be compelled to go through this, by force if not by choice, by the sheer proliferation of information that is set to be foisted upon us like a dam bursting. Better, perhaps, that we make the choice to begin the process on our own terms.

Once we are able to get past the point of denying the possibility of acts such as the forced harvesting of a child’s organs—a lofty step in itself—it is almost inevitable that feeling of anger, of rage, will arise and be directed at the individual perpetrators of such acts.

This anger can be directed to positive ends. It can take us out of the feelings of shock and hopelessness, and motivate great and important action in the world. The tireless work of Liz Crokin comes to mind, among the many heroes who strive courageously to uncover and bring attention to human atrocities around the world such as human trafficking and pedophilia.

But even as righteous indignation towards human atrocity has value, it eventually becomes important for each of us to pass through this stage of the process. Certainly we might spend some time identifying perpetrators and making individuals accountable to the world and to themselves for their crimes against humanity; but we must be careful to ensure that these efforts are sponsored by our collective desire to heal. The urge for revenge, especially once we come to grasp our enormous collective power, will do little to effect true healing.

Our opportunity in coming to know the truth about our collective shadow is to acknowledge the full range of human potential. Of particular importance here is that we take collective ownership of these heinous acts, rather than trying to distance ourselves from them. We will not be highly successful in bringing humanity together if we invite only a select group of people into a unified collective based on particular criteria of moral conduct.

To conclude that other people embody ‘pure evil’ is simplistic and a cop-out. Instead of focusing on blame and judgment, we need to come to grips with the kinds of mental and emotional states that can give rise to such a disregard for the sanctity of human life. Is it insatiable greed? Pure ignorance? Or a brain condition that drives sociopathic behavior? Were mind control techniques used? Is it deep fear, or other such emotional instability? Did these originate through childhood abuse, ritualistic or otherwise?

The practice of suspending judgment on perpetrators of these acts at this stage is important because it allows us to come to understand the conditions, both internal and external, that could give rise to such otherwise incomprehensible actions.

Understanding and acknowledging the negative actions of others works hand in hand with having the courage to examine our own shadows. As we come to understand the particular mental and emotional circumstances under which acts of violence and depravity are committed, it opens us up to look at those aspects of ourselves and our past actions that we have so long avoided, and acknowledge the nature of our own limited states of mind that gave rise to actions we are ashamed of. It becomes possible, then, to dissolve our self-judgment, and go through the process of forgiving ourselves, and all others as well.

This is how the healing of humanity really gains momentum. We have to admit to ourselves that the reason the world is in the state it’s in is because for too long, individually and collectively, we have been unwilling to look at our shadow and reconcile our past acts with who we now choose to be.

But remember, this is a sequential process. We are not simply going from a state of incredulity to a passive condoning of all evil actions in the world. Each of us needs to take it in stages, on our own schedule. No matter what stage of the process we are going through, we are connected by our desire for the truth and for the healing of humanity.

Back To The Question

At some point you may sit with your cursor over a video’s play arrow, deciding whether or not to watch what you know might traumatize you. Should you watch this video? You might consider these questions:

Will this help you understand the truth? Will you be able to process it in a healthy way? Is it part of your awakening? Will it contribute to the healing of humanity? Where do we draw the line with things like this?

Be brave. Only you can answer these questions for yourself. Follow your inner voice.

This is the difficult to view video: Video of Child Entering Organ Harvesting Room in Syria

People have stopped paying their mobile-home loans, and it’s a warning sign for the economy

The mobile-home market is showing signs of stress.

The delinquency rate on mobile-home loans has increased by 200 basis points, or 2 percentage points, over the past year, according to research cited by UBS. The 30-day-plus delinquency level is now about 5%, the highest level since 2005.

The increase in the number of struggling mobile-home borrowers suggests that a large chunk of these people haven’t benefitted from the economic growth of the past few years, despite the low unemployment level.

“We interpret this data to mean that these individuals have not largely benefitted from these macro-dynamics, and may also be disproportionately exposed to industries that have experienced compression – rather than expansion – in the current economic conditions, such as retail or some areas of energy extraction,” UBS said.

Conventional single-family residential loan delinquencies haven’t seen a similar uptick, instead continuing their steady downward path through the post-recession recovery.

This data represents a piece of a jigsaw puzzle of the condition of consumer finances in the US. And the picture that’s emerging, according to UBS, is of a two-speed economy, with lower-income consumers and younger borrowers with substantial student debt moving at a slower pace than more affluent and established participants.

Paris’s support for terrorists triggers a stern warning from Ankara

On 30 March 2018, following President Macron’s meeting with a PYD delegation, the party of the Kurds in Syria, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a violent speech in which he issued a warning to France.

According to the Elysée, President Emmanuel Macron received a delegation from the DFS (Democratic Forces of Syria) [1]. The DFS is a front behind which lies the PYD, the sister organization of the Turkish PKK.

According to the former Turkish Chief of Staff, General Ilker Basbug, the PKK and the PYD, both of which had started out as Marxist-Leninist, pro-Soviet and pro-Syrian organizations, have now become anarchist groups that are pro-NATO [2].

In the speech he delivered this Friday, President Erdogan emphasized that France was hosting the offices of the PKK and the PYD in Paris, even though these organizations are responsible for a multitude of attacks costing the lives of 40 000 Turkish citizens. He went on to emphasize that Turkey does not need a mediator to deal with terrorist groups.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also issued a threat: if France did not give up this policy, it would not escape suffering on its territory, the negative consequences of Turkey pursuing its policy; a threat that brought back to our minds that threat President Erdogan made before the Paris attacks and the Brussels attacks.

The Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, telephoned his French homologue, Jean-Yves Le Drian, to say that he was gobsmacked at France’s attitude.

The Elysee has clarified that, contrary to the declarations of the “ambassador” or the “Rojava” to Paris, France was not planning operations in Syria outside the International Coalition; explanations that do not change anything because it is this Coalition which has created the FDS as a front in order to continue to use the PKK-PYD mercenaries against Damascus.
