‘Officer of The Year’ Arrested After Neglected Toddler, Arsenal, Cocaine, and Feces Found In Home

Brevard County, FL – The same police officer who was awarded for his exceptional conduct on the job, was recently arrested on a number charges including child neglect and drug possession after neighbors reported hearing gunshots from his house.

Nicholas Worthy was named the top sheriff’s deputy in Brevard County in 2015, and he was named “Law Enforcement Officer of the Year” by the Florida Sheriffs Association in 2016. He was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal with a V for valor in combat in 2010 after he served in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that Worthy’s most recent accolades stemmed from incidents in 2015 when he was one of three deputies who saved the victim of an arson attempt, and when he was shot at by a suspect and managed to return fire after his gun malfunctioned.

“I could not be more proud of Deputy Nick Worthy for everything he does to protect our community and his heroic life-saving actions. He is a shining example of dedication to protecting our citizens with compassion, professionalism, and courage,” Sheriff Wayne Ivey said at the time.

However, everything changed this week when Brevard County deputies executed a search warrant at the home Worthy shared with his girlfriend, Rachel Trexler, and their 2-year-old daughter.  The Miami Herald reported that neighbors called 911 and said they heard gunshots and a woman screaming on Wednesday night, and when police were unable to contact anyone in the home, they obtained a search warrant and entered the residence at 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Worthy and Trexler were both arrested on charges of child neglect, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Their two-year-old daughter is in the custody of Child Protective Services, and their three dogs were taken by Animal Services.

Sheriff Ivey described Worthy in a very different tone as he revealed the ghastly conditions of his home during a press conference. In addition to finding shell casings on the floor and bullet holes in the walls of the house that were consistent with the reported gunshots, deputies found a horrific environment that included a mess of garbage, dog feces, cocaine, sex toys, guns, and ammunition.

“What was found inside was absolutely disgusting, absolutely deplorable, and quite frankly, just unbelievable. After everything we have found and everything we have seen, there is absolutely no other way to describe this except extremely disgusting,” Ivey said. “The house was in complete disarray. There was dog feces all over the house. There were firearms, ammunition, other types of trash, litter, food.”

Ivey emphasized the fact that Worthy was immediately arrested, and was not given any special treatment because of his status as a highly-decorated sheriff’s deputy. He has also been fired from the department.

“The one thing I can tell you about that home is that it was absolutely disgusting … conditions that no one should live in, especially not someone that has a profession such as ours, and certainly, with absolute conviction, not someone that has a small child exposed to that type of environment,” Ivey said.

Toddler Mistakes Sister's Wrestling Match For Real Fight, Runs In To Save Her

Family came first for this brave toddler.

The 2-year-old boy ran to his older sister Ruby’s rescue during her wrestling match at an elementary school meet in Columbia City, Indiana, on Sunday.

The youngster apparently thought Ruby was involved in a real fight with 5-year-old wrestling opponent Ryan, and charged over to save the day.

The kid grabbed his sister’s adversary and tried to drag him away, before the referee broke up the impromptu intrusion.

Grandfather hands stranger's toddler $20 bill in Target for most tragic reason

A mother shopping with her young son in Target was caught off guard when an elderly man gave the toddler a $20 bill — but when he explained himself, she was reduced to tears.

Alyssa Hacker, of Coweta, Oklahoma, says she was visiting the Fort Smith Target with her son Owen when the gregarious child struck up a conversation with a fellow shopper.

“We were at target waiting on Grammi and we found some dinosaurs,” Hacker wrote on Facebook. “Owen grabbed all 3 and we were trying to pick out which one he wanted when Owen abruptly yelled ‘HI’ at this older man walking past us.”

Hacker says the gentleman began interacting with her son, which initially made her feel a bit uncomfortable.

“He turned around and said ‘hey sweet boy,'” she continued. “He proceeded to play dinosaurs with Owen and with this crazy world we live in I was a little hesitant as too (sic) how close he was with Owen.”

But when Hacker found out the reason why the man wanted to play with her child, her uneasiness turned into overwhelming emotion.

“The man got his wallet out and pulled a $20 out, he put it in Owens pocket on his shirt and said ‘I just lost my 2 year old grandson last week. You take this money and buy this boy all three dinosaurs’ and rubbed Owens back, wiped his tears and walked off,” she wrote.

Hacker says she “cried in the middle of Target” over the brief interaction — and apparently, she wasn’t the only one who was moved by the man’s actions.

At the time of writing, Hacker’s story has received nearly 330,000 reactions and almost 125,000 shares.

“There is still some good in this world,” she ended her post.

Toddler Saved From Deadly Snake By Family Dog

Dogs are called man’s best friend for a reason. Not only do they show love and companionship when we need it the most, but they can also sense when we are in danger. In Sevier County, Tennessee, one family dog not only saved a family member from danger, but he saved a toddler from certain death.

Meet Shiloh, the Australian Shepherd that belongs to the Holloway family. Ever since the Holloway’s welcomed their son Bryson 18 months ago, he and Shiloh have been completely inseparable. Bryson’s father, Bryan, said that Shiloh and Bryson do everything together, and that as much as Shiloh “loves everybody else, those two, the baby and that dog, have a bond.”

Like they do on most days, Shiloh and Bryson were spending time outside playing fetch with the rest of the family outside, as well. Bryson had stepped off of the back porch like normal when Shiloh exhibited some unusual behavior. Bryan Holloway said that the dog “jumped up and took off after him. He lunged right towards the baby and at the baby’s feet, and when he did he kind of jerked back.”

The Holloway’s were confused as to what Shiloh saw that made him act so strange. That’s when Bryan hopped up and saw a snake near his son and dog. “As soon as I saw it…I knew it was a copperhead,” Bryan said. That was when Bryan told his wife, Alicia, to grab baby Bryson and take him in the house. Alicia was still confused as to what was happening and admitted that she was scared.

The copperhead snake is a venomous species that can grow up to three feet long and their bites can cause a lot of harm to humans, and it would be especially deadly to a baby. Normally, a copperhead will issue a warning bite without venom and aren’t all that aggressive, but that’s not a chance you want to take with a toddler.

When Bryson had been taken to safety and Bryan had assessed the situation, he knew that his beloved dog Shiloh had been bit since he was “Turning his head to the side and shaking his head.” Even with all of the fur around Shiloh’s neck, it was obvious that he had been bitten since the swelling was already visible.

The Holloway family took Shiloh to get immediate medical attention, where a veterinarian gave the Aussie antibiotics and pain medicine to treat the bite. It didn’t take long until Shiloh was back on his feet and hanging out with his best buddy once again. The family had always been appreciative of Shiloh, but now more than ever since their son likely wouldn’t have survived a bite from a copperhead.

Alicia Holloway said that “We give God the glory in everything, and we know that he used that dog, that wonderful dog, to protect him, and we’re thankful every day for him now.” They did not mention, however, how many treats Shiloh got on his return home, but we can guess that it was quite a few.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy reverses drowned toddler’s brain damage

(Natural News)
After Eden Carlson almost drowned in her family’s pool in February 2016, she suffered brain damage that left her immobile and unresponsive to nearly all stimuli. Doctors informed her family that she would remain in that vegetative state for the remainder of her life. A little over a year later, the now-three-year-old Arkansas toddler is talking and playing like any other child her age. According to her family, the dramatic turnaround is thanks to hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Despite everything the doctors told them, her parents refused to give up. Speaking to the DailyMail.co.uk, Kristal Carlson, 40, explained: “We had to be proactive. We had to fight for her, despite what the doctors said. We had to find treatment for her. It was hard because we had hope that she would recover, but when she came out of the ER and we saw the effects, it was very disheartening.”

That was when they discovered hyperbaric oxygen therapy online and learned of the New Orleans-based Dr. Paul Harch, a specialist with more than 25 years of experience under his belt.

Due to the distance between them, Eden Carlson was unable to travel to Harch treatment. Harch instructed her family to use the oxygen tank provided by the hospital to administer two-liter doses a minute for 45 minutes, twice a day, in the meantime. Her parents started this 55 days after Eden Carlson’s drowning incident. (Related: 8 Things You Need to Know About Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.)

Normally, hyperbaric oxygen therapy would involve having a person sit in a pressurized tank to breathe in pure oxygen. Doing this would allow the lungs to absorb more oxygen, leading to oxygen being dissolved in all the body’s fluids then delivered to all parts of the body, such as those with damaged tissues.

“I told them to film it so I could see what we were dealing with. The results were phenomenal. I knew straight away that she would benefit,” Harch said.

After Eden Carlson’s condition stabilized, her parents brought her to New Orleans to undergo treatment under Harch’s watchful eye. She was scheduled to undergo five 45-minute sessions for four weeks, though she began showing improvements after just 10 sessions. By the 40th session, Eden Carlson appeared “almost 100 percent the same as before”, according to her astonished mother. With the aid of physical therapy, the treatment had restored Eden Carlson’s motor function and cognitive abilities almost to near-normalcy.

Even Eden Carlson’s post-therapy MRI scan showed drastic changes, a fact that surprised Harch. “Normally, I have to do a functional MRI to see the difference. In this case, they did an MRI and her brain looked completely normal. Unequivocally, she had regrown substantial brain tissue,” he said.

Harch surmised that the success behind the treatment could be attributed to them acting immediately. He explained: “I was able to intervene so early before she had permanently lost so much brain tissue. Because she was young and it was early, I thought we had a chance.”

He added: “This is the first case that I’ve seen such a huge difference. I was confident beforehand that the therapy could help her. But yes, it really exceeded my expectations.”

Toddler Suffers Disfiguring Burns at Police Station After Mom Jailed for Traffic Violations

Decatur, AL — It must have felt like a nightmare when Tracy Marie Garth, 34, a bank employee from Decatur, AL, was arrested April 25, 2016. The trip was supposed to be a shopping vacation for the family. However, they were brought to the police station instead where Garth’s eldest would be severely burned.

Garth and her two young children — 8 months and 2 years — were going to Nashville, TN, when Franklin police officer Sgt. James Phillips pulled her over.

Garth claims Phillips “accused her of passing a dump truck, striking an orange traffic cone, and failing to stop for law enforcement and speeding” according to the Tennesseean.

But according to the affidavit signed by Phillips, Garth’s children were improperly restrained in the vehicle. The mother had driven the nearly four-hour trip and was within 20 miles of her final destination. Nevertheless, Phillips arrested Garth for, “three counts of felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon (her vehicle), two counts of evading arrest with a motor vehicle, driving on closed roads, speeding, improper passing, failing to stop at a red light and two counts of violating the child restraint system.”

The mother of two, who had never been arrested before and has no criminal record, was booked into the Williamson County Jail, and was separated from her children. At around the same time Garth was imprisoned, child protective services were called to take custody of her children. That’s when the horrific accident took place.

While Garth was jailed, her two children were being held in a break room at the precinct. There, the two-year-old pressed a button on the hot water dispenser and was severely burned by the hot water pouring from the machine.

While ‘protecting’ the children from their mother, police allowed this 2-year-old to play with a tap of near boiling water.

Adding insult to injury, according to her recently filed civil rights lawsuit, Garth says she was forced to strip nude while a male guard was filming.

Little did she know the ordeal was only just beginning. Garth and her attorneys allege she was not allowed to make a phone call while in jail. Neither did she know her son had been severely burned. In fact, Garth spent two weeks in jail, still unaware the accident had taken place.

She would have been able to bond out of jail had she been given a phone call, which is standard jail procedure. Instead, the young banker was forced to spend the next 14 days in jail with no one to help her and no knowledge of her child’s burns.

After leaving the jail, Garth’s children were not returned to her. She’s still fighting to regain custody, and she’s now lost her banking job, a position she’d held for over a decade.

Garth is now suing the City of Franklin, The Franklin Police Department, the officers involved and others for violating her civil rights. And she’s wanting answers. According to the Tennesseean:

Franklin police transported the two-year-old child to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital for treatment, while Kirby took the other child to the Franklin DCS office. No one from DCS accompanied or met the burned child at the hospital, and the agency never investigated how the injuries occurred, according to the lawsuit.

Worse still, Garth was not notified of her son’s injuries until 16 days later on May 11.

City of Franklin spokeswoman Milissa Reierson responded to the lawsuit by saying Garth’s is only one side to the story. She explained what happened from the perspective of the police department. In a classic case of blaming the victim, Reierson said:

Following Garth’s arrest, officers called DCS to assist with caring for Garth’s young children after she was unable to provide contact information for other family or next of kin

In other words, because she could not think to provide any information about who the police should call to take custody of the kids, they were remanded into child protective services. She still has not regained custody of her small children.

Garth disputes the Franklin PD’s claims and said she gave the police at least 10 names of individuals to whom they could release her children.

The young mother is suing for 2.5 million dollars for, in essence, kidnapping and allowing her child to be burned by hot water. She’s also suing two Williamson County police agencies and the Tennessee Division of Children’s Services in federal court. It could be months or longer before she gets her children back.

Arizona’s Department of Child Safety placed a toddler with a man who ran a “pornographic pedophile ring” out of his home

[8/6/17/ALLIE WEINTRAUB, COURTHOUSE NEWS]  After Arizona’s Department of Child Safety placed a toddler with a man who ran a “pornographic pedophile ring” out of his home, it moved her to a home where the foster mother burned her with scalding water over 80 percent of her body, the little girl’s guardian claims in court.

Fleming and Curti PLC, court-appointed guardian of Jane Doe, sued Arizona, its Department of Child Safety, other state agencies, the Christian Family Care Agency and a host of other institutions and people, in Pima County Court.

The Department of Child Safety, formerly Child Protective Services, removed Jane Doe from her biological mother’s home in 2013, when she was 2, and placed her with David and Barbara Frodsham, a state-licensed foster home, according to the June 16 lawsuit.

The state allowed Jane to stay with the Frodshams for 18 months, despite her biological mother’s complaints of “Jane Doe’s repeated documented urinary tract infections,” the complaint states.

“Instead of investigating Jane Doe’s biological mother’s concerns of abuse, [DCS] and the defendant caseworkers accused her of making false and exaggerated reports to DCS,” according to the complaint.

The state did not act until David Frodsham, driving drunk, left 3-year-old Jane and another child in his parked car while he was collecting his foster parent check in a state office, while “visibly drunk and acting belligerent.” Police were called and found Frodsham had a .28 blood alcohol concentration. They removed Jane from his care but did not investigate his home, the complaint states.

It continues: “Later, David Frodsham was arrested and accused of sexual misconduct with a minor, procuring minors for sex, and possessing and/or manufacturing child pornography. Law enforcement’s investigation revealed a video made by David Frodsham of a 3- or 4-year-old girl being penetrated by an adult male and screaming for her mommy. David Frodsham pled guilty rather than face a trial and has been sentenced to 17 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections. David Frodsham was part of a pornography ring involving numerous children in his pornography and the procurement of sex for the ring.” (Citation to sentencing document omitted.)

Four more state and federal cases involving a child placed in Frodsham’s home are pending against him, and more are expected to be filed, according to the complaint.

Unfortunately, things did not improve much when the state moved Jane into the care of Justin and Samantha Osteraas, her guardian says. According to the complaint, “Defendant Samantha Osteraas submerged and held down Jane Doe, a 5-year-old, in a bath of scalding hot water. Jane Doe suffered severe burns over 80 percent of her body. When police arrived, there was blood on the floor and piece of Jane Doe’s skin were falling off her body. There were bruises to her neck and arms along with other signs of trauma.”

Jane had to be placed in a medically induced coma, suffering from organ failure. She lost her toes to amputation “and will undergo lifelong operations to replace 80 percent of the skin on her body and will need incredible amounts of care for the duration of her life as a result of the abuse she suffered in the Osteraases’ home.”

Samantha Osteraas, 28, was arrested in January this year and charged with child abuse. The state then removed her three biological children from her home, according to the Arizona Daily Star. She is awaiting trial.

Jane’s guardian seeks punitive damages for negligence, respondeat superior, breach of duty, intentional infliction of emotional distress, assault and battery, and constitutional violations.

Here are the defendants: State of Arizona; Arizona Department of Child Safety; Arizona Department of Economic Security; Child Protective Services; Division of Children, Youth and Families; Christian Family Care; Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona Inc.; St. Nicholas of Myra; Mark Brnovich; Gregory McKay; Charles Flanagan; Clarence Carter; Jeannette Sheldon; Eva Pena; Katherine Mayer; Cassie Dixon; Monica Reyes; Norel Alviti; Rosette Codner; Jack Roddy; David Frodsham; Barbara Frodsham; Samantha Osteraas; and Justin Osteraas.

Jane is represented by the Cadigan Law Firm and Carillo Law Firms of Tucson, and by Manly, Stewart & Finaldi in Irvine, Calif.

A DCS spokesperson said the agency does not comment on pending litigation.

‘Alien’ Toddler Skeleton With Deformed Skull Unearthed In Crimea

The remains were found near the village of Yakovenkovo in the eastern part of the Crimean Peninsula, says the Archaeology Fund, a group that organizes digs across Central Russia, Crimea and Northern Africa.

The grave of boy, which dates back to the second century, was a key finding of the recent expedition, according to anthropologists. The boy had an artificially lengthened skull, which is clearly seen in the pictures shared by the group.

The severe deformations of the skull immediately earned the site the name “alien’s grave,” the Archaeology Fund said.

Artificial cranial deformation, a form of body alteration, was practiced among many ancient cultures. It was typically carried out on infants, whose skulls were more flexible. However, some adherents of ‘ancient astronauts’ theories claim that the owners of such lengthened skulls may be human-extraterrestrial hybrids.

The archaeologists’ group said that such skull deformations were typical for Sarmatians, who once inhabited modern-day Crimea. It is theorized that they may have used it to identify members of certain groups or bearers of a certain social status.

Archaeologists also unearthed a pottery vessel and small beads buried with the ‘alien’ and a copper bracelet on his right hand.

Several burial sites dating to the first-third centuries were also unearthed near where the scientists found the boy, as well as massive stone tombs believed to belong to high-ranking people from the Bosporan Kingdom, an ancient state located in eastern Crimea between the fifth century BC and fourth century AD.
