Israeli Forces Kill Dozens, Wound Thousands in Gaza as U.S. Embassy Opens in Jerusalem

Israeli Forces Kill Dozens, Wound Thousands in Gaza as U.S. Embassy Opens in Jerusalem

Israeli snipers have killed scores of Palestinians and wounded thousands more as 35,000 protesters rallied against the US Embassy opening in Jerusalem overseen by Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy Jared Kushner and daughter Ivanka.

A 14-year-old was among 52 shot dead along the Gaza border on what is already the deadliest single day in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since a 2014 war between the Jewish state and Gaza’s Islamist rulers Hamas.

At least 2,400 more have been injured with hundreds of them by live bullets, according to Gaza officials as the Palestinian government accused Israel of committing a ‘terrible massacre’ and Amnesty International called the bloodshed an ‘abhorrent violation’ of human rights.

This afternoon a White House delegation – including Ivanka Trump and her husband – gathered for an inauguration ceremony for the opening of the new embassy alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The US President tossed aside decades of precedent when he recognised the city as Israel’s capital in December – a decision that sparked global outcry, Palestinian anger and exuberant praise from Israelis.

Update: Thousands Wounded

The Palestinian death toll from Israeli live fire in protests along the Gaza-Israel border on Monday rose to 52, a Palestinian health ministry official said.

Israeli troops killed dozens of Palestinians taking part in mass protests on the Gaza border on Monday as the United States opened its embassy to Israel in Jerusalem.

Palestinian Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf Al-Qidra said the dead included six children under the age of 18. About 2,400 Palestinians had been wounded, about half of them by live bullets.

The U.S. relocation of its embassy from Tel Aviv fulfilled a pledge by U.S. President Donald Trump, who has recognized the holy city as the Israeli capital, but it has fired Palestinian anger and drawn criticism from many foreign governments as a setback to peace efforts.

At the embassy inauguration ceremony, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked Trump for “having the courage to keep your promises.

“What a glorious day for Israel, Netanyahu said in a speech. “We are in Jerusalem and we are here to stay.

Since I was born after World War II (in 1948), I hold no sense of responsibility for what happened to the Jewish Folks and the holocaust. …. But, the holocaust against the Arabs and Palestinians carried out by Israel and its supporters happened during my lifetime and on “My Watch” so to speak, and I am quite dismayed.
For my complete lifetime, Jewish Folks have been entering courtrooms across the universe seeking compensation and the return of properties, artwork, and other valuables which were seized during Hitlers Reign.
I think that the Palestinian people deserve the same “Right-Of-Return” and the same sense of justice that the Jewish Folks have insisted upon within every courthouse in the land.
Never once did I ever hear a Jewish Person claim that the holocaust was too long ago, or the facts had changed on the ground as they made their compensation claims …. But that is what the Jewish Folks are telling the Palestinian People today.
As I mentioned, I am 70 years of age now and in no condition to lead a protest of any type. But if I was young again, this is what I would be promoting in support of the Palestinian cause.
The Americans view their forests and parklands as “Sacred Ground” in the same way that Palestinian’s view their homeland.
The vast areas forests and Parklands are not only “Sacred” but a huge financial asset as well. Because of being so large in size, they are too large to protect against anybody with a book of matches.
If I were a Palestinian, I would quietly (not publically) approach the American negotiators and demand that Israel return to the Pre-1967 lines. And in no uncertain terms, tell the Americans that they have 12 months to complete the task presented. And, inform the negotiators that failure to do so will result in this threat being made public and the question asked “Is America ready to lose it’s “Sacred Lands” for Israeli warfare?
I have little doubt that Americans would feel just as defenseless as the Palestinians do today as the bullets and bombs fly indiscriminately.
The forests and parklands are just too large and vast to even attempt to protect against such a threat.
I would think that with each fire which was caused by lightening strike alone would cause huge paranoia and consternation within the American government and bring them to the negotiating table in the morning.

Massive sinkhole opens up on farm after record rain in Rotorua, New Zealand

Colin Tremain next to the sinkhole

A giant sinkhole has opened up on a farm near Rotorua following Sunday’s record breaking rainfall in the region.

The sinkhole, or tomo, was about 200 metres long, 30m wide and 20m deep, farm manager Colin Tremain said.

It runs along a fault-line at the Tumunui farm and was discovered by one of the farm’s staff, who went out to get the cows first thing on Monday morning.

It’s the ninth serious tomo that has been on the farm that was at least 10m deep, Mr Tremain said.

Mr Tremain said he would put a fence around it because it was a waste of time trying to fill it in.

“There was one around the other side, I was watching it in the rain, huge amounts of water going in, it wasn’t even filling up with water, it’s just going straight out the bottom.”

The tomo would get even bigger because there was already a crack which extended 400 to 500 metres through the property, Mr Tremain said.

The farm had 146 millimetres of rain over a 24 hour period on Sunday.

According to NIWA, Rotorua had its wettest hour on record with 51.8mm of rain falling between 10am and 11am on Sunday, with a total of 167.8mm of rain falling between 4am on Saturday and 6pm on Sunday.

Large sinkhole opens up in Maidstone, UK

The sinkhole.

A sinkhole has opened up in Barming.

The void was discovered earlier today and has caused deep cracks in the road and a driveway to crack up. Part of a fence has also subsided into the hole.

It was found at the edge of a field off Broomshaw Road and it is understood authorities have closed off the end of the road and houses lost water for a time.

The area where the sinkhole was seen is near where Taylor Wimpey is set to build hundreds of new homes on the Pea Fields behind Broomshaw Road.

The hole is off Broomshaw Road.

No building work has yet started, but in August we reported how the housebuilder had offered Broomshaw Road residents lucrative deals to consider selling their homes so they could be demolished and an access road built.

The incentives were up to 150% of the existing homes’ values.

Alibaba opens China’s first ‘car vending machine’

The five-story building houses up to 42 cars of various models, including the Ford Explorer SUV and the Mustang. It allows prospective buyers to see, test drive and purchase the vehicles via Alibaba’s online shopping platform Tmall.

The vending machine will be open to the public from April 23 and potential buyers will be given a three-day test drive before they have to commit to any purchase.

According to the general manager of vehicles at Tmall Auto, Gu Wanguo, “Sign-up is completely mobile on the Tmall or Taobao mobile APP.”

“Once a Ford vehicle is chosen, consumers snap a selfie to ensure they are the only person who can take the car, put down a deposit electronically, and schedule a pickup time, all from within the app,” he said.

Buyers can take out another car if they are not satisfied with their selection.

In 2017, Ford and Alibaba agreed a three-year partnership which allows the US carmaker various new retail opportunities, such as pre-sales, test drives and leasing options, through Tmall.

It’s not the first time that Alibaba is selling cars online and via mobile apps. Two years ago, Maserati sold 100 cars in 18 seconds during a flash sale on Tmall.

Gym Owner Opens His Doors “Free” For Those With Mental Health Issues

BLuke Miller Truth Theory

A Belfast gym owner is helping those suffering with health issues by opening his space for free.

Tommy McVeigh runs Excel 121 a gym located in the Irish city of Belfast. McVeigh decided to allow anyone suffering with mental health problems from his local community to train for free every Sunday.

McVeigh said to Belfast Live: “Almost everybody has been affected or knows somebody that has been affected by suicide,” and continued “There have been too many people who have taken their own lives in the past few months. It is tragic and sad to see.”

“I just thought this would be a good idea to welcome people who are maybe struggling with their mental health to come into the gym and use our facilities.”

“People think exercise and training only improves your physical appearance, but it has so many benefits when it comes to your mind and mental health.”

“So we would welcome anyone interested to come in, use our gym and clear their mind. You can come in with a friend, have a chat at the coffee bar and speak to the staff who are only too willing to help.”

The initiative doesn’t require anything but a disclaimer form to be filled out, in which the person can remain anonymous if they choose.

“All we need is a standard health and safety form to be completed which is very simple,” added McVeigh. “It is very straightforward and anyone who comes in can remain anonymous if that’s what they wish.

“If this can help just one person, then it will be a success. We are proud to be part of our local community, so we want to help in any way we can.”

“Hopefully this encourages people to come in and work out in the gym. Or even just come in for a chat and socialise with the other people and staff.”

We think this is an amazing initiative to help destigmatize mental health issues and allow those suffering an outlet. Please share this article. Much love, Luke

China Opens Futuristic Library Which Will Soon Be Home To 1.2 Million Books

By Fattima Mahdi Truth Theory

MVRDV, a Dutch architecture firm, teamed up with Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute (TUPDI) to design China’s largest library. Tianjin Binhai Library, which is located in the Binhai Cultural District in Tianjin, covers 33,700m square feet of space, features terraced bookshelves and can store up to 1.2 million books.

The library’s futuristic architecture is a sight to behold, it is based around a mirrored spherical auditorium which is known as the “Eye of Binhai” and looks like a glowing orb. “The Eye is the centre of the library,” MVRDV co-founder Winy Maas said. “It hollows out the building and creates, out of bookshelves, an environment to sit, to read, to hang out, to climb and to access, to create an organic social space. In its heart is the auditorium which mirrors the environment, giving a 360-degree panorama of the space inside; a truly reflective and pensive environment.”

It is important to note that though some shelves contain stacks of books, others have printed aluminum plates that mimic books—a feature that has prompted criticism from people claiming that the much-touted space is “more fiction than books.” Having said that, the atrium definitely boasts a spectacular design and, as such, has already attracted an average of 15,000 visitors on weekends.  The library currently contains 200,000 books and has ambitions to grow its collection to 1.2 million.

MVRDV hoped to make the upper terraces of the atrium accessible and filled with books, however, the construction of the library was “fast-tracked” and so the idea had to be dropped against its wishes. Liu Xiufeng, the deputy director of the library said that “We can only use the hall for the purposes for which it has been approved, so we cannot use it as a place to put books.” As a result, most of the books will be stored in traditional rooms and the large atrium will largely be used for other activities.

World Renowned Chef Opens 5 Star Restaurant To Feed The Homeless & Fight Food Waste

Next Story

Finally, thanks to the internet we are becoming aware of just how much food is being wasted on a regular basis. Supermarkets are throwing out astronomical amounts of unsold food that is actually perfectly fine to eat. When the amount of homeless people who don’t always have access to food, and the many families that are struggling every day to put food on the table to feed their children, is this really the option that we have come up with? To simply throw the food in the garbage because it cannot turn a profit?

In the U.S. alone, $165 Billion is wasted on food every. Single. Year. When the UN estimates that solving the world’s hunger problem would cost a measly $30 billion in comparison, we can clearly see that something is very wrong here. The unsold food from the supermarkets might not be the answer to solving world hunger, but it certainly paints a picture of where our priorities are, and at least shows us that this has to change. Two men were arrested in the United States in 2016 for taking this food and trying to feed the hungry.

Thankfully, as awareness towards this issue continues to be raised we are seeing a number of groups organizations and even countries doing something about it. France has made it illegal for supermarkets to throw away unsold food, forcing them to find other, more beneficial options for their perfectly fine food. Others are taking that food that would otherwise be garbage and feeding the hungry.

World renowned chef, Mossimo Bottura, for example has opened up a 5 star restaurant called Refettorio Ambrosiano in Milan, Italy in 2015 that accepts donations of unsold food from supermarkets and utilizes volunteer work from professional chefs who want to donate their time to help feed the poor and hungry. Why should the homeless people only be fed soup when there is so much more food available that would otherwise be thrown out? These chefs prepare gourmet meals and the guests are served rather than having to wait in line. Bottura says this is as much about treating those less fortunate with dignity as it is about feeding them. Check it out!

Refettorio Ambrosiano has served more than 16,000 meals, and saved 25 tons of food surplus from the landfills. As Bottura says, this is a revolutionary idea! Hopefully other chefs and restaurateurs will be inspired to follow suit and encourage their local supermarkets to donate to initiatives such as these.

Check out Bottura’s book of recipes Il Pane E Oro, here, and donate to this cause to end food waste and feed the hungry.
