U.S. Treasury Set to Borrow Nearly $1 Trillion This Year

February 5th, 2018

Via: CNBC:

Don’t look now, but the U.S. government needs to borrow more money at exactly the wrong moment — when interest rates are spiking.

Last week, in a development first reported by The Washington Post, the Treasury Department quietly released data estimating its 2018 borrowing needs would check in at $955 billion, then top $1 trillion in the next two fiscal years. Those sums are considerably higher than last year’s $519 billion in debt issued last year, and an upward revision to estimates released by the Treasury in late 2017.

U.S. flu outbreak worsens; hospitalizations highest in nearly a decade: CDC

By Deena Beasley

(Reuters) – The U.S. flu outbreak worsened over the past week as more people headed to doctors’ offices and emergency rooms, with hospitalizations at the highest in nearly 10 years, U.S. health officials said on Friday.

Sixteen children died of the flu in the week ended Jan. 27, bringing total pediatric deaths to 53 for the season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s weekly report.

Out of every 100,000 people in the general population, an estimated 51.4 have been hospitalized for the flu, surpassing the rate in the last severe season of 2014-2015, when 710,000 were hospitalized and 148 children died. Adults aged 65 or older had the most hospitalizations, followed by those aged 50 to 64 and children below 5.

“So far this year the cumulative rate of hospitalization is the highest since we began tracking in this way,” Dr. Anne Schuchat, acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told reporters on a conference call.

With the previous record now broken, “we fear this year might be even worse than 2014-2015,” Schuchat said in a telephone interview.

The United States is now 10 weeks into the current flu season, which is expected to last for at least several more weeks.

The dominant strain during this flu season is an especially nasty type called influenza A (H3N2) that in seasons past was linked with severe disease and death, especially in the elderly and young.

Schuchat was named acting CDC director earlier this week after Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald resigned from the post because of financial conflicts of interest, including purchases of tobacco and healthcare stocks while in office.

Flu is widespread in 48 states, down from 49 last week, with Oregon reporting less flu activity, the CDC said.

“We are not out of the woods yet,” Schuchat said, noting that sick people should stay home to avoid transmitting the virus to others, frequently wash hands and cover their mouth while coughing or sneezing.

The CDC official also said it was not too late to get a flu vaccine.

Nearly 80 undocumented immigrants found crammed in truck near US-Mexico border

Immigration authorities have found nearly 80 people crammed into the back of a truck trying to enter the US without proper documents.

The truck was travelling on highway in Laredo, Texas, near the US-Mexico border when the driver was pulled over. He was later arrested.

He was questioned about his immigration status and though he is a US citizen, the truck was subjected to a secondary search and 76 people from Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala were found huddled inside.

At least 13 were found to be unaccompanied children.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said all the people found in the trailer were in “good health”.

CBP did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Laredo Sector Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Gabriel Acosta said in a CBP news release: “These criminal organisations view these individuals as mere commodities without regard for their safety. The blatant disregard for human life will not be tolerated.”

“We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to disrupt and dismantle these organisations and prosecute those responsible,” Mr Acosta said.

Transporting people across the border in trailer trucks has become a dangerous practice.

In July, ten undocumented immigrants died from overheating while trapped in a trailer in San Antonio, Texas.

The air conditioning and ventilation systems had broken leaving dozens more with severe brain damage and other injuries.

The driver, a US citizen from Florida, had left the vehicle in a Wal-Mart parking lot and claimed he did not there were people in the back.

Survivors, however, claimed they banged on the walls in order to get out.

The undocumented immigrants found on 26 January, including the children, will be taken to a processing and detention centres.

They have arrived at a time when border security and the fate of the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programme, which allowed people brought to the US illegally as minors to stay and work, are under hot debate in Congress.

Shark attacks along US west coast nearly double in 2017 over previous year

shark attack

A new report says shark attacks rose last year on the West Coast.

The Shark Research Committee says there were nine unprovoked attacks in 2017 — eight in California and one in Washington. That’s up from five the year before.

Nobody died but some people were bitten.

The committee says most attacks probably involved great white sharks. In a March attack captured on video, a great white attacked a kayak in Monterey Bay, knocking the kayaker into the water.

Committee founder Ralph Collier tells the Orange County Register that kayaks topped the target list. He says the sharks may have seen them as intruders and were trying to drive them away.

Collier also says he’s surprised there weren’t more attacks because the shark population has spiked in recent years.

Purple hair dye nearly KILLS family dog… what’s it doing to YOUR health?

Image: Purple hair dye nearly KILLS family dog… what’s it doing to YOUR health?

(Natural News)
A white Maltese mix dog nearly died after someone decided to color her hair purple with dye meant for humans. When the pup arrived at Pinellas County Animal Services, her eyes were swollen shut and her body was covered in severe burns. The five-pound dog, Violet, was also listless and limp.

Her burns were so severe, in fact, that vets didn’t think she’d survive. She ended up losing several layers of skin. They treated her with antibiotics, IV fluids, honey, anesthesia, and pain medications, and were shocked when she survived her first night. Violet underwent three months of extensive medical treatment, but she has since made a full recovery. Pinellas Animal Services is now taking the opportunity to warn people not to use hair dye on animals. They shared heartbreaking, graphic photos of the injured pet on their Facebook page, along with a warning.

“Chemicals in hair dye are TOXIC causing a wide array of external injury to your pet – possible burns, blindness and because an animal’s first instinct is to lick, it can cause poisoning or internal burns. Just don’t.”

Animal Services is actively looking for whoever dyed the dog’s hair and left her to die. Charges are expected to be filed if the person responsible is found. A dog groomer has now adopted the dog. Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming Salon’s David Anderson reports that the dog has a friendly demeanor despite her ordeal.

Although it is difficult to imagine why anyone would want to color their dog’s hair, pet-safe hair dyes do exist. Earthwise Pet Supply’s Tracey Hubbell, a professional dog groomer, told ABC Action News that she tests animal-safe hair dye on small areas of a dog’s fur and looks for adverse reactions before proceeding.

Hair dye dangerous for pets and people alike

If human hair dye can cause such serious damage to animals, what is it doing to your health? Many people color their hair without giving it a second thought, whether it’s to cover up grays or change their look. In fact, it’s pretty much routine for some people.

Home hair dye instructions advise consumers to carry out a small patch test before coloring their entire head, although this is a step that many people – and most salons – skip entirely. Even if you’ve successfully dyed your hair in the past, however, that does not mean you’re out of the woods.

Some people develop allergies to hair dye after using it over many years, and it often starts out subtly. Redness, itching, burning and swelling after coloring hair can be a sign of an allergy. This is often caused by the paraphenylenediamine (PPD) in hair dyes, and darker colors contain more of it and are therefore riskier.

Hair dyes linked to cancer

As unpleasant as an extreme allergic reaction can be, it could actually be much worse: Hair dyes have also been linked to a higher risk of cancer, especially bladder cancer and blood cancers like lymphoma and leukemia.

One study found that women who use hair dyes – particularly those who started before 1980 or tend to use darker shades – had a higher risk of certain types of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

In fact, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has issued a warning about hair dye exposure, especially for those who work in hair salons. They’ve said that workplace exposure to hair dye is “probably carcinogenic to humans.”

Thankfully, there are a lot of natural ways you can color your hair, including coffee, tea, and henna. If you do feel the need to use conventional hair dyes, always perform the patch test first. Even if you are prepared to accept the risks of coloring your own hair, be sure to never, ever use human hair dye on your pets!

Teacher who nearly died from a heart attack 10 years ago is off all meds after going vegan – now he is inspiring others

Image: Teacher who nearly died from a heart attack 10 years ago is off all meds after going vegan – now he is inspiring others

(Natural News)
Heart diseases are the most common causes of human mortality in the world. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 610,000 people die of heart diseases in the U.S. every year. Caused by poor food choices and a sedentary lifestyle, heart disease is the pandemic of the modern world. Given this devastating chronic disease, what treatments should be done to stop or reverse its symptoms? Modern medicine has not provided a solution for this yet, but a shift in lifestyle choices including food and physical activity may reverse the symptoms of heart disease. A 59-year old man who had a heart attack a decade ago shares how he stopped taking heart medications after switching to a plant-based diet.

Doug Schmidt, a former professional baker with a particularly sweet tooth, had a widowmaker heart attack (a complete closure of the left anterior coronary artery) in 2008 because of his poor diet that consisted of large slabs of meat for dinner and ice cream right before bed. After that, doctors put him on lifelong heart medication advising him that it would keep him well off future heart attacks, but ultimately, not heal his heart. Schmidt decided to turn his whole life around and not just rely on the medications. He switched from meats and ice cream to eating just vegetables and grains, which reduced his weight from 225 pounds to 165 pounds. Just last year, he decided to start exercising due to the excess energy he gets from his nutritious diet. Since then, he no longer takes his heart medications.

Schmidt, a teacher as well, decided to start a food challenge where students and teachers pledged to eat a plant-based diet for 10 days. On the fourth day of launching the challenge, almost 1,300 students, teachers, and administrators from 36 schools in the district signed up. The animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), calls him the “Sexiest Vegan over 50,” awarding him with a “vegan cruise” with his wife to the Caribbean due next month. Their children are now starting to slowly adapt to their healthy lifestyle.

The transition to veganism wasn’t perfect though, since he states that he started out eating veggie burgers and fake cheese. However, they moved on to better, whole, and natural foods that makes him feel better than what vegan food corporations produce. He also tips that going vegan shouldn’t be expensive, since rice and beans can cost significantly lower than a pound of sirloin. Snacks, according to him, can be as simple as roasted potatoes with mustard dip.

Going vegan may not be for everyone, but adding more fruits and vegetable to your diet helps stave off the pounds and the unwanted chronic diseases. Diets like the Mediterranean diet provide good examples of a good balance between plant-based and animal-based food. In this diet, red meat isn’t illegal, but is rarely eaten, limited to three-ounce portions. However, you can still eat poultry, eggs, cheeses, and yogurt in moderation.

Keep in mind that there is no single diet that will suit everyone. While some may want to avoid animal-based food, some enjoy its taste. Forcing your family to undergo a specific diet isn’t healthy, and may produce unwanted results, especially if it isn’t recommended by a health professional. To identify what kind of diet your body and your family’s body needs, make sure to consult with your family health expert.

In Terrifying Close Call, Plane Skids Off Turkish Runway And Nearly Plunges Into Black Sea

Terrifying images captured Saturday night at Trabzon airport on Turkey’s northeast coast showed a passenger plane teetering precariously on a steep slope, its nose pointing toward the waters of the Black Sea below, after the jet skidded off the runway as it was attempting to land.

Incredibly, none of the 168 passengers and crew members on board the Pegasus Airlines flight were hurt in the incident, according to Reuters. Everyone was safely evacuated.

The Turkish airline said in a statement that the Boeing 737-800 aircraft had been flying from Ankara to Trabzon and “had a runway excursion incident” as it landed.

“We tilted to the side, the front was down while the plane’s rear was up. There was panic; people shouting, screaming,” a passenger named Fatma Gordu told state-run news agency Anadolu.

An investigation into the cause of the accident has been launched, reported the BBC. Provincial governor Yucel Yavuz said the Trabzon airport was closed for several hours while authorities conducted a probe into the incident.

The Proportion of Medical Procedures Unsupported by Evidence May be Nearly Half

The Proportion of Medical Procedures Unsupported by Evidence May be Nearly Half

December 31st, 2017

Via: Vox:

The recent news that stents inserted in patients with heart disease to keep arteries open work no better than a placebo ought to be shocking. Each year, hundreds of thousands of American patients receive stents for the relief of chest pain, and the cost of the procedure ranges from $11,000 to $41,000 in US hospitals.

But in fact, American doctors routinely prescribe medical treatments that are not based on sound science.

The stent controversy serves as a reminder that the United States struggles when it comes to winnowing evidence-based treatments from the ineffective chaff. As surgeon and health care researcher Atul Gawande observes, “Millions of people are receiving drugs that aren’t helping them, operations that aren’t going to make them better, and scans and tests that do nothing beneficial for them, and often cause harm.

    Hi Kevin,

Have had an “education” this year. Mammograms, dexiscans, all of these tests that have caused me more harm than good.

All involved radiation that I’ve told my health care providers I didn’t want. Seems my “health care providers” are more interested in raking in dollars from my insurance provider than anything else.

I’ve fought these tests and am demoralized and am starting to feel that I have become a member of the “sheeple club.” I’ve gone along with it all. Not without protestation. But its all been quite a demoralizing experience.

Dr. Mercola has helped me A LOT. Am going to start a clinical trial of ONE taking AHCC.

Have had it with the MD’s. Going to go to DO’s from now on, and if they don’t want to listen to the results of my research into my various maladies, they can quite frankly, KISS MY ASS,

You all have a glorious New Year,

  2. Kevin Says:

I saw a picture of an old friend of mine after he had been on statins for two years. Obviously, for his privacy, I’m not able to post the before and after pictures, but holy shit man… He looks like a death camp survivor now. If I didn’t know it was him, I wouldn’t be able to recognize him now.

My wife and I like to know that doctors are available for emergencies, broken limbs, etc. but we stay far away from them otherwise.

2017 Was Safest Year for Cops in Nearly 50 Years—But Citizens Killed by Cops are at Epidemic Levels

Washington, D.C. – Data from 2017 reveals that the idea that there is a “war on cops” is nothing more than police propaganda, as the number of officers killed in the line of duty dropped to the second-lowest total in more than 50 years.

Conversely, there were over 1,000 people killed by cops for the fourth year in a row, according to the website killedbypolice.net, which operates a database of individuals killed by law enforcement officers.

According to data from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, a nonprofit aimed at honoring officers and improving safety, as of December 28:

In 2017: 128 officers died in the line of duty, 44 of which were shot and killed.

In 2016: 143 officers died, with 66 being gunned down – meaning one-third fewer officers died of gunshot wounds.

The only other year there were fewer police deaths in nearly the last five decades was 2013, when a total of 116 officers died in the line of duty.

“This is one of those good-news, bad-news situations,” said Craig Floyd, president and chief executive of National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. “On one hand, you had 128 officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, showing the cost of public safety, but for the first time since 2013, the number of deaths has actually declined.”

It’s also important to keep in mind that although 128 officers died in the line of duty in 2017, 47 of these deaths were traffic related, while another 16 were due to illness entirely unrelated to the job.

According to a report from USA Today:

While shootings played a big role, traffic accidents caused the largest number of deaths. Crashes killed 47 officers this year, down 15% from 2016. A number of factors — including enhanced policies that limit vehicle pursuits and speeding and the “move-over law,” which requires drivers to slow down and switch lanes when an officer is pulled over — could be behind the drop, experts say.

Across the U.S., ambush-style attacks killed eight officers in 2017, a decrease from a jarring 21 such deaths in 2016. The largest number of fatal shootings this year occurred while officers responded to domestic disturbances.

Randy Sutton, a former police lieutenant and spokesman for Blue Lives Matter, an advocacy group that supports law enforcement, said multiple reasons likely led to the drop in killings, including a change in how officers approach arrests because of the controversial high-profile shootings in recent years. Officers don’t put themselves in dangerous situations as often, he said.

“There’s a saying in law enforcement: You can’t get in trouble for the car stop you don’t make,” he said. “They don’t want to be the next Ferguson, the next officer burned on the stake.”

Within the words of Sutton is a beautiful admission. When police choose not to engage in fishing expeditions and don’t make unnecessary stops, they have a lesser likelihood of things going dangerously awry – for both the officer and the unfortunate citizens they come into contact with.

Ironically, Floyd said there have been significant improvements in de-escalation training, which seems odd given the 1,000-plus people killed by cops the past four years running. One would reasonably assume that improved de-escalation training would result in fewer citizens being killed by police, not near record numbers yearly.

Floyd presciently noted that there has been a continual downward shift in the number of officers killed going all the way back to the late 1970s — which negates the oft-repeated “war on cops” mantra espoused by the thin blue line.

“In my 33 years doing this, I’ve never seen the amount of awareness given to officer safety and wellness,” he said. “That’s definitely been paying off and will continue to help make law enforcement a significantly safer profession.”

So, while inordinate attention is given to officer safety – resulting in the safest time to be a cop in nearly the past five decades – the same cannot be said of the citizenry that comes into contact with the police.

When 44 cops are shot and killed in a year, while in the same period a whopping 1177 Americans are killed by cops, perhaps it’s time to focus on de-escalation techniques that not only save officer lives, but also the lives of the public they are allegedly sworn to protect and serve.

There is clearly no war on cops — but is sure looks there is a war on the American people.

Nearly 3 Months Since the Vegas Massacre, Police Silent, Still No Images of Paddock, & No Motive

Las Vegas, NV — Strangely, almost three months after the the deadliest mass shooting in recent U.S. history, authorities have still not announced a motive for the massacre, nor have they officially released a single image of the alleged shooter, Stephan Paddock, in Las Vegas prior to the incident.

What makes this seem odd is the fact that Las Vegas, and more specifically the Vegas strip, is arguably one of the most intensely surveilled places on the planet. This surveillance makes the fact that there has been no footage, not even a still image of Paddock in the Mandalay Bay, seem extremely suspicious.

Just this week, the Las Vegas coroner’s office confirmed that Paddock died of a reported self-inflicted single gunshot wound to the head. Also, amid their deafening silence on the matter, the only thing authorities have announced is that there would likely not be a motive released until next October — a full year after the shooting took place.

“Now that’s a long time for some people, but speaking for the FBI, that’s light speed, all right?” Aaron Rouse, Special Agent in Charge, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Wednesday.

Rouse said reports from other agencies investigating the mass shooting will be released at different times, but the FBI’s one is “focusing a large part on the why” which is “what everybody wants to know.”

According to a report by Fox News:

Rouse told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the FBI has interviewed around 400 people worldwide in connection to Paddock and has brought in the same number of specialists to help document evidence. He said the Route 91 Harvest music festival site took investigators 14 days to comb over, while Paddock’s room and hotel hallway at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino took 13. Important items found at both sites have been sent to the FBI’s central lab in Virginia.

He added that FBI investigators have 22,000 hours of surveillance and cellphone footage and 250,000 photos to look over, amounting to about 40 terabytes of data.

“We’re going to have, I think, the best digital schematic of what happened and where it happened and how it happened that you can come up with,” Rouse said.

“We didn’t leave anything uncovered,” Rouse told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “And again, the casinos, with their support, let us track down a lot of information of who may have had contact with that person. And it was very helpful to us.”

Given the public’s thirst for information about the incident, and the numerous conspiracy theories surrounding the massacre — some of which were discovered to be promoted by a PR firm hired by the parent company of the Mandalay Bay Casino — it seems odd that there has not been more transparency during the investigation.

The scant information released by investigators indicates that Stephen Paddock, 64, who by all accounts was independently wealthy and a Vegas high-roller, opened fire on a music festival from a 32nd-floor hotel room at the Mandalay Bay Casino.

The massacre left 58 dead and 546 injured, yet nearly three months later and there are still few answers – even to the most basic of questions.

Even more strange is the fact that the case has been jettisoned from the 24/7 mainstream media cycle, despite the fact that the most basic of questions have yet to be answered.

Previously, The Free Thought Project brought forth a number of facts that seem to raise more questions than answers:

  1. The official timeline of the mass shooting has been changed at least three different times.

2. Paddock wired $100,000 to an account located in the Philippines a week prior to the massacre.

3. Investigators claim Paddock’s laptop was missing its hard drive when they found it in his hotel room.

4. Paddock reportedly took cruises that made port stops in the Middle East.

5. Authorities now claim an officer discharged his weapon in Paddock’s hotel room – after denying it for the first month after the attack. (This raises the question of why police discharged a weapon if Paddock had already committed suicide prior to law enforcement breaching the room? And why they lied about it after the fact.)

6. Security guard Jesus Campos, who reportedly came across Paddock as he began his attack was allegedly shot in the leg, but a spokesperson for UMC Quick Care, the walk-in health clinic facility Campos supposedly went to after being shot, said they had “heard nothing” about Campos visiting them.

7. During an interview on Fox News with Tucker Carlson, an attorney for the victims revealed that not only did police officers respond to Campos after he was shot, they were right outside of Paddock’s door before he began shooting out of his hotel room window.

“As of yesterday it was that two—we knew about Campos—but there were two other police officers from MGM that were on the floor prior to the shooting,” Craig Eiland said.

So the question remains as to whether there is a tight-lipped, professional, investigation taking place, or a thorough cover-up in action.

The complete silence from law enforcement, in such a high-profile case, raises some serious questions about the potential for some type of cover-up taking place.

Why is there no investigative coverage of Vegas shooting by major media organizations?

Why did the story simply vanish from the news cycle with so much public interest and so many unanswered questions?

The fact that there have been virtually no answers to any of the questions that have arisen from the official story not adding up, while simultaneously being blacked out by the mainstream mass media, could potentially indicate an intentional soft-censoring of the Vegas mass shooting… the only question is why?

Please share this important information. Let us know what you think is going on in the comments!
