‘Being Naked Does Not Remove a Threat’: Says Chief as Cops Kill Unarmed Naked Teacher

nakednaked

Richmond, VA — The family of Marcus-David L. Peters—an honors graduate and high school science teacher—is asking for answers after a Richmond police officer shot and killed him while he was naked and unarmed. Not only did the officer swiftly escalate to unnecessary deadly force against a naked man, but now the department is telling the public that it was justified.

According to reports, the shooting happened along I-95 in Richmond after Peters lost control of his vehicle, sending it crashing into the trees. Police say that Peters then exited the vehicle, entirely naked, and began running into and then rolling around on or near the interstate.

Police say that Peters had previously struck another vehicle prior to crashing and then fled the scene. After a brief chase, he crashed and then ran naked up the northbound lane of I-95. Police claim Peters then charged an officer who had no other choice but to resort to deadly force against the naked and unarmed man who ‘charged the officer.’

“Peters emerged from his disabled vehicle and ran into the northbound lanes of I-95,” Richmond Police spokesman Gene Lepley said. “He was not wearing any clothes… [we’re trying to figure out] why he didn’t have any clothes on.”

Police claim the officer first deployed the taser which proved to be ineffective, so the officer then shot the teacher, who later died at a local hospital.

“Our officer attempted to use a taser on the person and it failed,” Lepley said.

“The attack continued and the officer drew his service weapon and discharged it striking that man.”

Police have yet to release the name of the officer involved. According to WTVR,

The RPD officer, a male with ten years of service, has been placed on administrative leave which is standard procedure while the Department’s Force Investigation Team (FIT) conducts its investigation. The FIT detectives will interview the officer and any other eyewitnesses that can be located. They will review the officer’s body-worn-camera video and any other video or photographs that can be located. Such images can be submitted to the RPD using the Crime Stoppers P-3 app which has its own category labeled “95 Incident.”

A ‘safety analyst’ for the local news channel claimed that he’s seen naked men strangle multiple officers to death and went on to justify the use of force.

“An unarmed person does not necessarily mean that you cannot be killed by an unarmed person,” NBC 12 safety analyst Mike Jones said. “I’ve seen cases where officers have been strangled with the bare hands of a suspect.”

The Free Thought Project searched for instances in which unarmed suspects have strangled on-duty police officers to death, although we could not find any.

The police chief echoed the claims of the safety analyst, noting that being naked doesn’t mean that a person can’t kill you.

“We are all deeply affected by what happened here – by the loss of life,” Richmond Police Chief Alfred Durham said in a statement released by Richmond Police. “Our officers do not take the use of deadly force lightly. I think it’s important to remember that being naked does not remove a threat. So far, the eyewitness accounts we’ve heard have been consistent: our officer tried using verbal commands, then used non-lethal force first by deploying his Taser before using his service weapon.”

While it is indeed possible for an unarmed naked man to pose a threat to an untrained individual, the idea that a trained police officer couldn’t figure out another way to suppress this threat without killing Peters is disturbing.

Indeed, as TFTP has reported, DeKalb County Police Officer Robert Olsen in Georgia, shot and killed an unarmed naked man under very similar circumstances—and he was charged.

According to Barbara Peters, her son grew up in Middlesex County and graduated cum laude from Middlesex High School in 2011. His school selected him to be the speaker at graduation and he was even featured in a special on the local news.

“Each and every one of you has something special to offer the world,” Peters said during his speech, according to the reports. “You have your own unique gift. We are all assets to society.”

He went on: “The trying times of life will only make us strong individuals. Nothing in this life that has value is going to come easy.”

According to the Richmond-Dispatch, Peters went on to attend VCU, graduating in 2016 with a biology degree and cum laude honors; he also minored in Spanish, psychology and chemistry. While at VCU, he attended the school’s Honors College, served as a resident assistant and volunteered in doctor’s offices, the family said.

“His pursuit for a career as a trauma surgeon would unknowingly take a detour as he discovered his passion for education,” the family said in a statement.

Before being killed by police, Peters was a science teacher at Essex High School.

“The hopes for these additional lessons were to help students develop fundamental skills for overall success,” Peters’ family said. “He would often say, ‘The students just need to know that someone cares about them and need a role model to look up to.’ He tried his very best to do just that.”

Peters was obviously in some sort of mental distress, whether it was drug related or health related was unclear. What is clear, however, is that police were unable to resolve a situation involving a naked unarmed man—without killing him—and society has lost an amazing person because of it.

Disturbing Video Shows How a Naked Man In Need of Mental Health Help is Treated in a Police State

nakednaked

Marion, IN — A mother and father are horrified and asking for police to be held accountable after a graphic video showed multiple cops savagely attack and beat their schizophrenic son.

On Monday, Arrington Barber, 29, was in the midst of a schizophrenic episode and was walking outside of his apartment wearing only a blanket. Barber, who has a history of mental illness—but no history of violence—was in need of help. However, when police arrived, he got the exact opposite.

According to police, when they saw Barber and attempted to approach him, he dropped the blanket and ran inside his apartment. To a schizophrenic man, multiple armed men with guns chasing after you can be terrifying, which prompted Barber to run.

When police chased him into the apartment, they tried to taser him, but he fled past them. Clearly upset that he made them run, when police caught up with Barber, they unleashed their fury.

The video begins once police knocked Barber to the ground.

“They’re beating him down like he’s a dog,” said James Barber, Arrington’s father. “It’s disgusting, I mean it’s disgusting.”

Arrington’s parents explained to FOX59 that their son has been dealing with mental health issues for the past ten years. However, he’s never been violent.

“You can’t just beat him and treat him any kind of way ’cause he’s not right in his mind,” said Michele Davis, Arrington’s mother.

The video, which was taken by a person who wants to remain anonymous, shows a naked Arrington appear to be non-violent on the ground when an officer runs up from the side and begins waylaying into his body. Naturally, this caused Arrington to squirm which made police dole out even more of a beating.

The people taking the video react in shock as they watch a half dozen cops surround a non-violent naked man and begin beating him. According to the department’s own report, Arrington was not fighting with officers, he was simply holding his hands under his body—similar to what a child might do if they were being grabbed by a bully or abusive adult.

Police claim this was enough to escalate to such violence, however.

“I don’t know what he might have said that would cause anybody to strike him like that. I’m lost. I really am,” said Davis.

“Those officers are going to have to answer some questions,” said Barber.

Indeed they do. However, they likely won’t. According to Chief Angela Haley, Arrington had an outstanding warrant for public nudity for another episode he suffered, during he was seen walking outside of his apartment naked.

This warrant was used to justify the officers’ actions and subsequent violence.

“Mr Barber continued to be non-compliant with the officer’s commands at which time Mr. Barber was subdued in accordance with Marion Police Department’s Use of Force Policies and Indiana Law Enforcement Training,” Haley said.

According to the department, four cops holding down a naked mentally ill man while one beats him with a baton and another stomps on his head happens to be in accordance with policy.

As TFTP has reported—at length—police officers have very little training in dealing with mentally ill suspects, and 25 percent of the people killed by police annual have mental health issues. Is that statistic reflective of the failure of the mental health system to effectively treat disturbed individuals or representative of how quickly police officers resort to often deadly force when dealing with the mentally ill?

“I mean he has his issues. I’m never going to say he doesn’t, but at the same token let’s work hand and hand and fix this,” said Davis as she and Arrington’s dad called for an investigation that will likely never come.

“It’s really ridiculous, it really is,” said Davis. We agree.

If you’d like to peacefully voice your concern about the dire need of training for these officers, you can do so at the Marion Police department’s Facebook page, here.

Naked gunman kills 4, injures 4 in WAFFLE HOUSE…

Four people are dead and at least seven others injured after a gunman opened fire at a Waffle House in Antioch early Sunday morning before a patron wrestled the gun away, according to Metro Nashville Police.

The suspect opened fire at about 3:25 a.m. at the Waffle House at 3571 Murfreesboro Pike, which is just south of Mt. View Road, police said. Police said he used an assault rifle.

He remains at large.

The suspect first fired from the parking lot, shooting two men and shattering the glass window at the front of the restaurant before going inside and continuing to pelt the restaurant with bullets, police said.

At least four people are dead and four others wounded after a gunman opened fire at a Waffle House in Antioch early Sunday morning

Eight people were hospitalized after the shooting, six of them with gunshot wounds. Police said that tally could have been much higher if a 29-year-old “hero” had not intervened and wrested the gun away from the suspect.

The suspect fled on foot, nude, after shedding his coat, and remains at large, police said.

Travis Reinking, 29, was named as a person of interest, according to police. The vehicle the gunman arrived in is registered to him.

A man believed to be Reinking was last seen in a wood line near Discovery at Mountain View Apartments on Mountain Springs Drive, near the Waffle House. The man was wearing black pants and no shirt, police said.

Federal and local law enforcement were already aware of Reinking “due to previous interactions,” police spokesman Don Aaron said. FBI investigators were on the scene Sunday morning.

Police do not believe the suspect is still armed but said residents in the area should lock their doors.

Three victims were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. One victim died at the hospital, while one person remains in critical condition and one person is in critical but stable condition, according to hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Wetzel.

Two people were taken to Southern Hills Medical Center, where they were treated for minor injuries and released Sunday morning, a spokeswoman said.

Witness Chuck Cordero, 50, had come by to grab a cup of coffee Sunday morning when he saw the suspect get out of his vehicle and open fire.

Cordero described the suspect shooting through the glass and at a man standing by the door before heading inside.

“He did not say anything,” Cordero said of the shooter. “He pulled up, got out of his car and was all business.”

Cordero, who works at the Waffle House but was not on the clock at the time, praised the man he saw wrestle the gun away from the shooter.

“He really saved some people. I’m positive he did,” Cordero said. “Had that guy had a chance to reload his weapon, there was plenty more people in that restaurant.”

Aaron, the police spokesman, said victims were crying when officers arrived on the scene.

In a statement, Mayor David Briley called it “a tragic day for our city anytime people lose their lives at the hands of a gunman.”

“My heart goes out to the families and friends of every person who was killed or wounded in this morning’s shooting,” Briley said. “I know all of their lives will be forever changed by this devastating crime.”

“There’s clearly more to be said about these circumstances, but for now I ask Nashville to pray for and rally around these victims and join me in thanking the Metro Nashville Police Department as it works to find and apprehend the shooter.”

Waffle House corporate officials are on site at the restaurant Sunday morning, according to a spokesperson.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “This is a very sad day for the Waffle House family, and we ask for everyone to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts and prayers.”

Police are asking anyone who has seen Reinking to call the police’s non-emergency number immediately: 615-862-8600.

Sunday’s violence took place less than two miles the mass shooting at an Antioch church in September, where one person died and nine were injured after Emanuel Samson opened fire during Sunday morning services.

Graphic Video Shows Bystanders Screaming at Cops to Stop Beating Naked Harvard Student

harvardharvard

Cambridge, MA — News of a Harvard student getting caught up in a police beating garnered headlines last week as it shows how police violence crosses all socioeconomic barriers and can even affect the affluent. This week, the dramatic video footage of the student, identified as Selorm Ohene, was released showing the arrest in its graphic detail.

The Cambridge Police Department is now the subject of public criticism as the video shows police pin down Ohene and repeatedly punch him over and over as he screams. The punches were so disturbing that onlookers—many of whom had out their phones and were filming—began screaming at the officers to stop it.

The incident took place on Friday around 10 p.m. as police responded to calls of a naked man in the middle of the street who was “acting completely irrational.” This naked man was 21-year-old Ohene who was clearly in the midst of a mental health emergency after he’d allegedly ingested some sort of mind altering drug.

In a statement on Monday, the president of Harvard University, Drew Foust called the incident “profoundly disturbing.”

“A Harvard student was in obvious distress, and we need to understand how that came to be and whether we could have interceded earlier and more effectively,” Faust wrote. “We have been witness to the use of force against a member of our community, which, regardless of circumstances, is upsetting and compels the search for a deeper understanding.”

As the video shows, police have Ohene surrounded when one of them tackles the naked man sending him slamming into the pavement.

A letter from the Harvard Black Law Students Association described the incident in graphic detail:

He was surrounded by at least four Cambridge Police Department (CPD) officers who, without provocation, lunged at him, tackled him and pinned him to the ground. While on the ground, at least one officer repeatedly punched the student in his torso as he screamed for help. The officers held him to the ground until paramedics arrived, placed him on a stretcher, and put him in the ambulance. A pool of blood remained on the pavement as the ambulance departed. Shortly thereafter, firefighters came and cleaned up the blood with bleach and water.

The pool of blood was documented by NBC 10 Boston in a disturbing image.

Cambridge Officer Punches Man Multiple Times During ArrestCambridge Officer Punches Man Multiple Times During Arrest
A photo provided to NBC10 Boston shows blood on the street after Cambridge Police officers punched a man multiple times during an arrest. The police department has defended the use of force.

In spite of the backlash, police are defending the use of force by the group of four officers which was made up of three officers from the Cambridge Police Department and one from Transit Police.

A later statement from Cambridge Police Commissioner Branville G. Bard, Jr., provided to Cambridge City Councilors and media included a lengthy defense of the use of punches:

“As we previously noted, use of force was required in order to effectuate the male’s arrest. The primary concern I’ve addressed this morning focuses on punches (five in total) issued by one of the involved officers after the suspect was on the ground. In a rapidly-evolving situation, as this was, the officers primary objective is to neutralize an incident to ensure the safety of the involved party(ies), officers and members of the public. Use of force was utilized to gain compliance from the involved party, who was displaying erratic behavior due to reports of his ingestion of drugs earlier in the evening. Once on the ground, officers were unable to gain compliance because the male contorted his body in a way that pinned his arms under his body and officers were unable to handcuff him. An ongoing struggle ensued. To prevent the altercation from extending and leading to further injuries, particularly since the location of the engagement was next to a busy street with oncoming traffic, the officers utilized their discretion and struck the individual in the mid-section to gain his compliance and place him in handcuffs.”

Ohene has since been charged with disorderly conduct, indecent exposure, resisting arrest and assault for the April 13th incident. Below is the video. Warning, its content may be disturbing to some viewers.

Horrifying Video Shows Deputies Punch, Kick, Taser Naked Mentally Ill Man

mentally illmentally ill

Muscogee County, GA — When your only tool is a hammer, everything begins to look like a nail. To illustrate this point, a disturbing and graphic video was released this week showing a mentally ill man being repeatedly punched, kicked, and tasered by deputies whose only tool appeared to be violence.

The video was so shocking that even the head of the jail said it was excessive. According to the Ledger-Enquirer, Major T. Culpepper described the use of force as extensive and “outside of policy under most circumstances.” He recommended better training for staff to avoid such situations in the future.

Cortney Jackson, 21, was in the midst of a mental breakdown in February of 2016 when he encountered police officers. Jackson had run into traffic and was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct. Instead of receiving the mental help that he needed, Jackson was thrown into a cage where he became suicidal.

Clearly lacking the training in dealing with mentally ill individuals, deputies attempted to remove Jackson from his cell with tasers, fists, chains, and boots.

Although the video does not show Jackson being combative, police claimed in their report that the naked 21-year-old was a threat and the severe beating he received that left him permanently injured was necessary.

“At this point, several closed fist strikes were delivered to inmate Jackson’s head, face abdomen and ribs,” deputy Bryan Davis wrote. “Due to his continuous combative and aggressive behavior, C.O. Gilliland attempted to drive stun using the CEW (Controlled Electronic Weapon). The CEW had no effect and the subject, as he attempted to grab the CEW from C.O. Gilliland. A second CEW and all available officers were called for.

“… Once multiple officers and another CEW arrived, they entered the cell and at that point a second CEW was deployed at this time,” Davis continued. “Contact was made and he eventually let go of me. Once he released his grip, I was then pulled from the cell by other officers as others moved into the cell to restrain him.”

“I then kicked inmate Jackson on his right side multiple times until he released the CEW,” Corporal Robert Denney wrote. “Jackson was then brought down to the ground in attempt to roll him over to be handcuffed. Jackson continued to fight the officers and refused all commands given.

“The CEW was deployed and contact was made,” Denney continued in his report. “I became tangled up in the wires during the fight. I was tased multiple times during the fight trying to get Jackson to roll over. All officers then attempted to back out of the cell while tasing inmate Jackson under power. I was the last one out attempting to leave the cell. Inmate Jackson jumped up at the end of the 5 second cycle. He came at me and got me in a headlock. I reached for his testicles and squeezed them until he released me. Inmate Jackson was then brought to the ground and shackled.”

During the melee, Jackson was tasered for more than 70 seconds. At the end of the assault, Jackson was left dazed, shackled, and bloody.

The beating was so bad that it prompted inmates in the Muscogee County Jail to contact Jackson’s family in order to let them know how bad he was being treated.

Jackson’s sister, Chasity Lee, responded by sending a letter to then-Sheriff John Darr and other officials expressing concern about how her brother was being treated at the jail.

“… No one has seen him since an altercation that happened on Saturday, June 25th,” she wrote. “A worker with the NAACP has went to the jail to see him, with permission from Sheriff Darr and he was denied the visit. I am asking you to please help my brother and stop the attacks that is inflicted on him by jail guards.”

Lee said the family had spoken to nurses, doctors and the jail warden about her brother’s condition, and they all said Jackson was fine with no physical injuries, according to the Ledger.

However, as the medical reports show, Jackson was not “fine.”

As the Ledger-Enquirer reports, Jackson underwent a CT scan of his chest, neck and brain to evaluate physical injuries sustained following the alleged assault by guards and officers at the jail. The results showed that he “suffered a pneumothrorax to his right lung and emphysema due to the trauma sustained at the hands of defendants,” according to the lawsuit. He also allegedly “suffered from urethral stricture secondary to his trauma, as well as subcutaneous facial hematomas caused by the repeated blows.” He was subsequently diagnosed with abnormal liver function and elevated liver enzymes and his hematology lab work was abnormal, according to the lawsuit.

“Despite all these serious medical conditions, the Plaintiff was not provided medical care to determine the reason for the abnormal findings,” Jackson’s recently filed lawsuit reads. “The Plaintiff also did not receive any additional or follow-up medical treatment for his injuries.”

After the video was released, an unknown person bailed Jackson out of jail and he is now free until his trial. He spent two years in a cage—getting beaten repeatedly—for running into traffic.

WATCH: Cops Force Mentally Ill Woman to Strip Naked, Violently Attack and Pepper Spray Her

mentallymentally

Cleveland, Ohio – Graphic Body Camera footage has been released that shows police officers forcing a mentally ill woman to remove her clothes, and then violently slamming her to the ground, covering her face with pepper spray, and forcing her to answer a series of questions before giving her medical aid.

The video was released by Cuyahoga County after a judge granted a request submitted by Cleveland.com. The evidence details an incident that took place in May 2016, after officers arrested a woman for a nonviolent offense, and a municipal court judge ordered that she be held in jail until a mental health evaluation could be conducted.

In order to conduct the evaluation, a female guard ordered the woman to go into her cell and take off her clothes. When she did not comply, the guard called for backup, and Corporal Brendan Johnson arrived.

The Body Cam was being worn by Johnson, as he pushed the woman into the cell and then ordered to her take off her clothes. The woman responded by taking off her clothes while swaying and singing phrases such as “You wanna see my tits?” “I’ll dance for you!” and “Make the pedophiles happy.”

As soon as the woman turned around and began to remove her pants, Johnson kicked her legs out from underneath her, and she fell to the ground. He then proceeded to spray her in the face with pepper spray multiple times, and as she coughed and flailed in response, he yelled, Stop resisting!”

Abuse! Abuse! Abuse of power,” the woman continued to sing as she lay face down on the floor while Johnson secured her wrists with handcuffs and other officers obtained a wheelchair.

The officers pulled the woman up from the ground and sat her in a wheelchair, instructing her to “sit back,” even though the handcuffs she was wearing prevented her from doing so. At least six male officers surrounded her as she sat naked in the wheelchair while they secured her ankles with handcuffs.

While the scenario does raise questions about why male officers were ordering a female inmate to take off her clothes, and then secured her naked body into a wheelchair, before finally providing a blanket to act as a covering, Cleveland.com reported that “County officials have said previously that male supervisors are allowed to order female inmates to disrobe if there are no female supervisors available.”

Several minutes elapsed as the officers transported the woman to a different room for a mental health evaluation, and during that time, her face was still soiled with pepper spray. She began to cry in pain and said that her eyes hurt.

The officers wheeled the woman into a room with a sink and then turned on the hose. However, instead of using the running water to provide relief, one officer used it to torture the woman, by asking her a series of medical questions while she cried and begged for him to wash out her eyes.

“God I just want this burning out of my eyes,” the woman pleaded. “You have water right there. But you’re evil. Evil men.”

It was not until Johnson told his radio that the woman “refused to answer all questions” and then ordered the guard to “decontaminate her” that the guard began washing her face with water.

The graphic video presents a number of alarming actions, which include the fact that a group of male officers disrobed a female inmate and then transported her naked body across the building, and the fact that they tortured her with the promise of medical relief, in exchange for information.

The officer who assaulted the woman and presided over the torture as she begged for relief, Brendan Johnson, was also investigated for an incident that happened two days before. He was responding to a female inmate who flooded the toilet in her jail cell, and when she told him that she did not want to talk about it, he covered her face in pepper spray twice, and said, “I told you I’d get you,” before forcing the inmate to the ground in her flooded cell and placing handcuffs on her wrists.

Cleveland.com reported that while Johnson was actually fired for using excessive force in both incidents, an arbitrator overturned his firing and he got his job back.

The NYT Supports US Naked Aggression

The NYT Supports US Naked Aggression

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Like other media scoundrels, the Times notoriously cheerleads US wars, naked aggression in all cases post-WW II – nations threatening no one raped and destroyed, appalling human carnage and mass destruction committed, accountability for high crimes never forthcoming.

Commenting on war in Syria, the Times ignored US aggression, its use of ISIS and other terrorist groups as imperial foot soldiers.

Allied with Russia, Hezbollah and Iran, Assad is courageously combatting US-supported terrorists – cutthroat killer invaders, recruited from scores of countries.

The Times disgracefully called him “vicious,” turned truth on its head, saying he “unleash(ed) a new round of carnage on civilians…”

Supplied with heavy weapons by Washington, NATO, Israel, and their imperial allies, US-supported terrorists are fully responsible for shelling Eastern Ghouta residential areas, massacring civilians.

Not according to the Times, falsely blaming freedom-fighting Syrian, Russian and allied forces for high crimes committed by al-Nusra and other US-supported terrorists.

The self-styled newspaper of record turned truth on its head, saying “airstrikes on residential areas” caused civilian deaths. Ground shelling is responsible.

The Times: “Photos posted on social media are excruciating. Terrified children, faces and bodies covered in blood. Shrouded corpses lined up on dirty concrete floors.”

“Wounded patients on gurneys writhing in agony, lacking medical attention or even drugs to ease their pain” – the Times failing to lay blame where it belongs, disgracefully blaming Russia and Syria.

The broadsheet won’t ever demand US and allied war criminals be held accountable for Nuremberg-level crimes – instead called for “build(ing) a legal case (against) Assad,” a despicable request.

It repeated the long ago discredited canard about Assad using chemical weapons. It disgracefully bashed Russia, saying it “bears special responsibility because it guaranteed Mr. Assad would give up his chemical weapons…which the Syrian leader obviously did not do” – a malicious Big Lie.

The Times: “The United Nations Security Council has been particularly impotent at ending the killing…”

US veto power and contempt for conflict resolution bear full responsibility, the broadsheet never explains – instead blaming Russia and Syria for lawless US actions.

The Times quoted UNICEF on Syria, saying “(n)o words will do justice to the children killed, their mothers, their fathers and their loved ones.”

The organization stopped of laying blame where it belongs. The Times is guilty of blaming other countries for US high crimes – backing them through silence and support for its destructive imperial agenda.

The self-styled newspaper of record is a national disgrace!
