Police K9 Attacks, Seriously Injures 6-Year-old Girl as Witnesses Contradict Cop’s Story

Saskatoon, CA — A Saskatoon police K9, a three-year-old Belgian Malinois, reportedly wouldn’t let go of a 6-year-old after the dog attacked the little girl. Predictably, the Saskatoon police department is defending not only its dog but its handler. But if the script was flipped and the family’s dog had attacked the officer, one can bet the policeman would have killed the family dog right in front of its owners.

The incident happened while police were supposedly tracking suspects in the family’s neighborhood. Saskatoon Police Chief Troy Cooper claims the dog has been thoroughly trained and serves an integral part of the law enforcement agency. Cooper defended its training saying:

Our canine officers and their animals are an important part of our organization…The dogs are selected for police work and they all receive extensive training to a provincial standard and that is reviewed annually by supervisors in the unit.

Following the mauling, the Saskatoon PD removed the dog from service and is conducting an investigation into the dog, its training, as well as the actions of its handler. Cooper stated:

This is a working dog…It’s trained to track. It’s trained to protect the handler. It’s trained to do the things it was doing…It acted outside of that training and that’s what we’re investigating.

The tiny child was bitten between the armpit and her hip and while police claimed the dog immediately released when ordered to do so, witnesses claim otherwise.

Autumn Clifford, 6, was attacked and mauled. The vicious attack required numerous stitches to close several deep puncture wounds to her abdomen. Leslie Welder, her mother, said her daughter was simply curious and was immediately attacked. Welder stated:

My other daughter — she’s seven — stated that all Autumn did was look over and say, ‘Oh, look! Puppy!’ And next thing you know he was on her, pulling her down to the ground and attacking her.

Amanda Pritchard, a neighbor, said she witnessed the attack and claims not only did the dog viciously attacker but wouldn’t immediately let go as police contend. She said:

Out of nowhere there was two officers that I saw. One was on top of the dog. Three times he had told the dog to let go. ‘Let go! Let go!,’ he was saying to the dog. The dog did not let go. The dog, in fact, growled at the cop and shook his head like he was going to tear her…All she (Autumn) was yelling was, ‘Ow! Ow! Ow!’

Cooper stated the victim is receiving services but the police chief apparently does not want to minimize the serious nature of the attack. He remarked:

Fortunately, this is a rare occurrence but, having said that, I don’t want to downplay the seriousness of what would have been a terrifying event for a little girl and her family.

As TFTP has reported, police dogs, like deadly weapons, are often just another violent tool in the hands of law enforcement officers used to inflict pain on individuals, many of whom are peacefully protesting what they perceive to be an illegal search or unlawful arrest. In the Saskatoon case, the victim was a child, an innocent bystander, who likely wanted nothing more than to pet the officer’s dog.

As a result of the literally hundreds of violent encounters we’ve documented between police dogs and civilians, it is the stance of TFTP such unpredictable animals should be banned from police service. Not only are police K9’s given law enforcement officer status, defending oneself against being mauled by an officer’s K9 can result in felony charges against a citizen.

Just like police officers should not be treated as a protected class of citizens, so, too, should police K9s not be afforded such protections. Below, our very own Jason Bassler details five reasons why police K9s should be removed from service.

5 Reasons Why Cops Shouldn’t Have K9’s

There have been 3 viral stories in the news recently involving police dogs. It inspired us to take an in-depth look at the use of police K9’s. Here are 5 reasons why cops should no longer use K9’s! Join Us & Help: Police The Police ✌️(Tap For Volume 🔊 – Captions Included)

SWAT Team Raids WRONG House, Nearly Kills Dad, Injures 6yo Boy With Flash Grenade

Family image via Facebook.

Chattanooga, TN – Young children were traumatized and injured by flash-bang grenades, an innocent father was terrorized and arrested by police, and their home was damaged, after a SWAT team carried out an early morning no-knock raid on the wrong house.

The ordeal began at 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday when the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with federal agents to conduct a raid on a house where they claimed a suspect in a murder case was staying. However, they actually terrorized an innocent family in a careless raid that should never have happened.

Spencer Renck shared the story in a Facebook status, noting that he had just gotten out of bed and was preparing to get ready for work when he heard loud noises and immediately thought his home was being burglarized.

I heard loud banging noises upstairs so I grab my gun and try to run upstairs to protect my family from whatever was happening. I thought someone had broken in,” Renck said. “But no it was the Bradley County and Hamilton County SWAT team RAIDING my house.”

The homeowner said the officers launched flash-bang grenades throughout his house, including into a bedroom where his 6-year-old son was sleeping. He said the grenade “blinded and deafened” his son, who was one of four young children in the home with Renck and his wife.

“I had my gun drawn and they opened [the] basement door with several SWAT team members pointing their MP5’s and AR’s at me so first thing I think is to run so I don’t get shot since I’m holding a gun,” Renck said. “They flash-banged me downstairs then threw me to the ground and proceeded to hold me down with someone’s foot and aggressively cuff me and I told them I had a gun in my pocket loaded and he rolled me over and yanked it out and said ‘Of course you do because you are wanted for murder, you piece of shit’ then I proceeded to tell them they got the wrong person and they kept telling me to ‘shut the fuck up.’

After officers violently arrested Renck, they finally took the time to check his ID and realized that he was not the murder suspect they were looking for, and they were in the wrong home. According to a report from NewsChannel 9, Johnson City Police admitted in a press release that the search warrant was for 4030 Lynncrest Drive. The Renck family lives next door at 4040 Lynncrest Drive.

Renck said that even when the officers realized he was innocent and they were at the wrong house, they just rushed to the house next door to find the suspect they were actually targeting. When asked for a statement on the botched raid, the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office ignored the egregious actions of its officers and focused on the fact that they eventually arrested Monte Lamar Brewer Jr, a suspect in the 2017 murder of a pregnant woman.

“Earlier this morning, the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office assisted a federal agency with executing a federal search warrant which led to the arrest of a male who was wanted for murder in Washington County, Tennessee,” spokesman James Bradford said in a statement.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has announced that it is launching an investigation into the SWAT Team’s abhorrent actions, and the Drug Enforcement Agency released a statement responding to the botched raid:

“On May 22, 2018, agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Louisville Division Office and the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office served a federal search warrant at an address associated with an individual wanted for murder, who was also a target in an ongoing heroin investigation. This operation was part of a larger ongoing investigation. Unfortunately, this search warrant was initially served on the wrong residence. DEA leadership immediately responded to the scene and met with the family. Fortunately, there were no injuries and DEA will continue to work with the family to ensure their wellbeing. Situations such as these are tragic and DEA takes them very seriously. We intend to look into this matter further and take steps to ensure situations such as this never occur again.”

Unfortunately, the trend of SWAT teams terrorizing innocent families and damaging property in early morning no-knock raids that are carried out at the wrong addresses is not uncommon. In December 2017, a SWAT team in Chicago raided the wrong house and were reprimanded by the homeowner who demanded an apology, while recording the incident on Facebook Live.

“Next thing you know, when I’m looking there’s guns in my face. Just guns drawn out, ‘Get outta here, who’s in here with you?’ Just a bunch of questions,” Homeowner Shanae Cross said, describing the scene when SWAT team members first broke into her house. “I’m like, ‘What the hell is you doing in my house? Who are you, why are you in my house?‘ Then I realize when I see the vests and all, this is the police.”

Officers began to arrest Cross’s 17-year-old brother, and she said she immediately demanded to see a search warrant for the residence where the officers were initiating the “no-knock” raid. When an officer told her the street address was “8203,” she informed them that they were at the wrong house.

“I’m like ‘This is 8209, you f—king idiot. You’re in the wrong house!’”

Spencer Renck and his family are now left to live with the trauma from the horrific raid, all because police failed to confirm the correct address on the search warrant. In addition to rushing to the hospital for a check-up for his young son, who was impacted by the flash-bang grenade that detonated in his room, Renck wrote on Facebook that his house was left damaged from the raid.

“They destroyed my door, door frame, carpet on my stairs blew my ceiling out and burned my living room floor and hallway,” Renck said. “All because someone got the wrong house. I am okay and could have easily been killed just thankful to be alive and my family okay. I still don’t understand how you get the wrong damn house.

Cougar Kills Mountain Biker In Washington State, Injures Companion

A cougar attacked two mountain bikers in Washington state Saturday morning, killing one and seriously injuring the other man. The biker who was killed fled into the woods to get away from the cougar after the initial attack and the animal chased him down, officials said.

The cougar was found standing over the man’s body, reported USA Today, before it ran from wildlife officials.

A 100-pound male cougar, three or four years old, was tracked down with the help of two dogs and killed by wildlife officials. It was 50 feet up a tree and 50 to 200 yards from where the man’s body had been found, Capt. Alan Myers of the Washington Fish and Wildlife police told the Times. The cat is being tested to make certain it was the same animal that attacked the men.

The cougar attack occurred on an isolated mountain road near North Bend, about 30 miles east of Seattle.

The injured biker was airlifted to a Seattle hospital with serious injuries, but his condition was later listed as satisfactory, according to the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.

He was attacked first, then jumped on his bike to get to an area where he could get cell phone service to call for help.

The cougar “jumped the first victim and attacked him,” Sgt. Ryan Abbott of the sheriff’s office told The Seattle Times. “The second victim turned and started to run away. The cougar saw that and went after the second victim. The first victim saw his friend being pulled by the cougar. He got on his bike and started to bike away.”

Abbott said the man rode for about two miles before he could make a call.

“When the deputies and medics responded, it took them about 30 minutes to locate the second victim. He was deceased. The cougar was standing on top of him,” said Abbott.

Officials have not released the names of either man.

A man in the area provided reporters a video of a cougar he had spotted recently in the same area. Officials said it could not be determined if it was the same animal, given that there are a number of cougars in the region.

Cougar attacks on humans, and particularly fatal attacks, are rare. Since 1890, cougars have attacked people fewer than 100 times, according to the nonprofit Cougar Network, and about 20 of those attacks have been fatal.

The last time a human was killed by a cougar in the U.S. was in 2008 in New Mexico, according to The News Tribune in Tacoma. The paper said that the last fatality in Washington state apparently was in 1924.

A mountain biker’s partially eaten body was found in 2004 in Southern California on the same day another biker was attacked in the same area.

Sunlight reflected from pavement injures plants, stunting their growth

Image: Sunlight reflected from pavement injures plants, stunting their growth

(Natural News)
On a really hot day, you can feel the heat rising from the pavement. And if it’s painful for you, it’s even more hurtful for plants that can’t move to shadier places. According to an article in the International Journal of Urban Forestry, pavements can re-radiate so much heat from reflected sunlight that nearby plants can get badly injured and ended up stunted.

The finding came from Australian arborists who were researching the feasibility of planting roadside trees in the city of Melbourne. They analyzed the effects of various paving surfaces, the direction a tree was facing when it got planted, and high ambient temperatures.

They chose the London plane tree (Platanus × acerifolia) for their experiment. A cross between the American sycamore (P. occidentalis) and Oriental planetree (P. orientalis), the London plane’s high tolerance for air pollution made it a popular choice for cultivation in polluted European and American cities.

The researchers planted thirty young London planes along the center median of a major road in Melbourne. The trees were selected because they were all oriented north in the nursery.

They also installed wooden plinth boxes on the west side of the road, one for each tree. Each box was placed 50 mm away from its partner tree and served as support for 0.5 square meters of paved surface to replicate pavement.

Four different materials covered the surface of the boxes and simulated pavement. Concrete and organic mulch had seven replicates. Conventional asphalt and granitic sand got eight replicates.

Furthermore, fourteen trees kept their northwards orientation from the nursery. The other 16 trees were reversed so that they faced south instead.(Related: U.K. government plans to plant 50 million new trees in coast-to-coast forest megaproject.)

Asphalt pavements are the hottest and therefore the worst for plants

Researchers measured the temperature of each paving material several times each day. They also tracked the growth of each tree.

According to their findings, asphalt and organic mulch were the hottest materials during the morning. They could get as much as 35.6 degrees Fahrenheit (two degrees Celsius) hotter than concrete and granitic sand.

This lead increased as the day wore on. During the afternoon, asphalt and mulch were recorded to be 50 F (10 C) hotter than the other two paving materials.

However, mulch cooled down much quicker than asphalt. It lost as much as 86 F (30 C) of heat between early and late afternoon.

By late afternoon, concrete displaced mulch to join asphalt as the hottest surfaces. The two synthetic materials were 41 F (5 C) hotter on average.

Asphalt proved to be the hottest material. It gained heat the fastest and lost the least amount of heat throughout the entire day and evening. In contrast, granitic sand stayed relatively cool.

Sunscalds are the plant equivalent of sunburns, and they can stunt plant growth

The trunks of the London plane trees exposed to asphalt surfaces suffered from sunscald, the plant equivalent of sunburn. Trees injured this way grew less compared to unaffected trees.

On a related note, reversing the orientation of the tree during planting seemed to have a small but noticeable negative effect on the rate of growth of a tree. It’s most evident when paired with a hot paving material like asphalt.

Based on their findings, the researchers drew links between sunscald and the stunted growth of trees. Given the prevalence of asphalt and concrete throughout most cities, it’s no surprise that trees in urban environments are getting baked.

One way to reduce this is using cooler paving materials. Organic mulch is made from recycled wood, while granitic sand is weathered granite. Both materials are cooler and more eco-friendly than asphalt (a by-product of crude oil distillation) and concrete.

Shooting at Florida high school injures 1 student

Panic and fear gripped another Florida school Friday when a gunman opened fire, wounding one student before being taken into custody on a day planned for a national classroom walkout to protest gun violence, authorities said.

It happened Friday morning at Forest High School, which was put on lockdown, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office reported. The wounded student, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury to his ankle.

Some students and teachers piled desks and filing cabinets against classroom doors as a makeshift barricade.

Police initially said the 19-year-old suspect is also a student at the school, but later said he was a former student not currently enrolled. No charges were immediately announced. The sheriff’s office said no other schools in the county were under any threat.

The Ocala shooting comes just over two months after a gunman killed 17 people and wounded 17 others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Nikolas Cruz, 19, faces the death penalty if convicted in that Valentine’s Days shooting.

The shooting also coincided with a nationwide student walkout to protest gun violence on the anniversary of the 1999 massacre at Colorado’s Columbine High School. The Ocala school had planned its version of a walkout, students said. (AP)

Naked gunman kills 4, injures 4 in WAFFLE HOUSE…

Four people are dead and at least seven others injured after a gunman opened fire at a Waffle House in Antioch early Sunday morning before a patron wrestled the gun away, according to Metro Nashville Police.

The suspect opened fire at about 3:25 a.m. at the Waffle House at 3571 Murfreesboro Pike, which is just south of Mt. View Road, police said. Police said he used an assault rifle.

He remains at large.

The suspect first fired from the parking lot, shooting two men and shattering the glass window at the front of the restaurant before going inside and continuing to pelt the restaurant with bullets, police said.

CLOSE

At least four people are dead and four others wounded after a gunman opened fire at a Waffle House in Antioch early Sunday morning

Eight people were hospitalized after the shooting, six of them with gunshot wounds. Police said that tally could have been much higher if a 29-year-old “hero” had not intervened and wrested the gun away from the suspect.

The suspect fled on foot, nude, after shedding his coat, and remains at large, police said.

Travis Reinking, 29, was named as a person of interest, according to police. The vehicle the gunman arrived in is registered to him.

A man believed to be Reinking was last seen in a wood line near Discovery at Mountain View Apartments on Mountain Springs Drive, near the Waffle House. The man was wearing black pants and no shirt, police said.

Federal and local law enforcement were already aware of Reinking “due to previous interactions,” police spokesman Don Aaron said. FBI investigators were on the scene Sunday morning.

Police do not believe the suspect is still armed but said residents in the area should lock their doors.

Three victims were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. One victim died at the hospital, while one person remains in critical condition and one person is in critical but stable condition, according to hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Wetzel.

Two people were taken to Southern Hills Medical Center, where they were treated for minor injuries and released Sunday morning, a spokeswoman said.

Witness Chuck Cordero, 50, had come by to grab a cup of coffee Sunday morning when he saw the suspect get out of his vehicle and open fire.

Cordero described the suspect shooting through the glass and at a man standing by the door before heading inside.

“He did not say anything,” Cordero said of the shooter. “He pulled up, got out of his car and was all business.”

Cordero, who works at the Waffle House but was not on the clock at the time, praised the man he saw wrestle the gun away from the shooter.

“He really saved some people. I’m positive he did,” Cordero said. “Had that guy had a chance to reload his weapon, there was plenty more people in that restaurant.”

Aaron, the police spokesman, said victims were crying when officers arrived on the scene.

In a statement, Mayor David Briley called it “a tragic day for our city anytime people lose their lives at the hands of a gunman.”

“My heart goes out to the families and friends of every person who was killed or wounded in this morning’s shooting,” Briley said. “I know all of their lives will be forever changed by this devastating crime.”

“There’s clearly more to be said about these circumstances, but for now I ask Nashville to pray for and rally around these victims and join me in thanking the Metro Nashville Police Department as it works to find and apprehend the shooter.”

Waffle House corporate officials are on site at the restaurant Sunday morning, according to a spokesperson.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “This is a very sad day for the Waffle House family, and we ask for everyone to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts and prayers.”

Police are asking anyone who has seen Reinking to call the police’s non-emergency number immediately: 615-862-8600.

Sunday’s violence took place less than two miles the mass shooting at an Antioch church in September, where one person died and nine were injured after Emanuel Samson opened fire during Sunday morning services.

California Middle School Shooting Injures 2 Students, 1 Critically

A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition and a 15-year-old girl is in fair condition after being shot inside a classroom at Sal Castro Middle School in Los Angeles on Thursday, according to authorities.

The suspected shooter, a 12-year-old female student, has been taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers say they have recovered the weapon used in the attack.

The boy is believed to have been shot in the head, according to NBC Los Angeles reporter Jonathan Gonzalez, who is on scene. The other student was struck in the hand by a bullet, KTLA reports.

Both of the injured teenagers have been transported to a local trauma center, according to a Los Angeles Fire Department alert.

Three others, including an 11-year-old and a 12-year-old, suffered minor injuries from shrapnel or broken glass, officials told ABC 7.

At a press conference on Thursday, LAPD deputy Chief Robert Arcos said it was too early to speculate about the shooter’s possible motive or how the suspect obtained the weapon.

Los Angeles School Police Department Chief Steven Zipperman described the incident as “very traumatic” for the other students who were in the classroom at the time. He said the campus had been put on lockdown and searched before officers declared it safe.

Arcos said “parents who are watching should be assured their children are in great care.”

There have been at least seven other school shootings so far this year that have resulted in death or injury.

Gunman kills one and injures three others in shooting rampage at Moscow factory

Special forces troops were preparing to storm the Menshevik sweet plant amid reports that the plant's owner was holed up inside with weapons

A gunman has killed one and injured three during a shooting rampage at a Moscow sweet factory.

The attacker, named as Ilya Averyanov, 49, has barricaded himself inside the facility in a southeastern area of the Russian capital and told a radio station he will ‘fight until the very end’.

Special forces troops were preparing to storm the Menshevik sweet plant amid reports that the plant’s owner was holed up inside with weapons.

There are reports that workers were forced to leap from factory windows to save their lives. The director was using a Saiga semi-automatic rifle.

One report said he opened fire on three ‘visitors’ believed to be local prosecutors. They are believed to be wounded.

There were claims that 31-year-old Alexey Kostikov was dead at the scene.

In a dramatic development, Averyanov told a Moscow radio station by phone: ‘I am the factory’s director. I am sitting inside here, barricaded.’

He accused state prosecutors of acting like a ‘criminal gang’ against him.

‘They have been following me for 4 years. They pulled my factory away from me by using fake documents.

‘They are buying everything, they are faking documents and use these fake documents in court.

‘This morning I came to work and I was stormed, they tried to take me with a gun, with other arms.

‘I have arms, too, today I defended myself. I shot one of them, sadly looks like I shot him to death. This is the story.

‘If I live, I’ll fight until the very end. Now I am being surrounded by special forces.

‘All’s well. Now I’ll be either shooting myself, or I’ll surrender’.

The head of Moscow police General Oleg Baranov was at the scene taking personal control. The sweet factory has been cordoned off.

Sources close to the company said that it is in debt and that Averyanov faces legal sanctions over the financial problems.

According to the Russian news website Tass, a law enforcement source said: ‘One person died in the shooting and three others were wounded.

‘A former owner came to the factory, shot dead a security guard and is now walking with weapons around the premises and is shooting.’

The area has been cordoned off while specialist police negotiators try to establish contact with the shooter.
