Bike industry bigwig says bikes will need to communicate with self-driving cars

They want to build beacons into bikes. Will implants in pedestrians be next?

Bikes are tough for autonomous cars. We saw recently how Uber couldn’t detect one being walked across an empty street. Renault and Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn complains that when it comes to AVs, “One of the biggest problems is people with bicycles. The car is confused by [cyclists] because from time-to-time they behave like pedestrians and from time-to-time they behave like cars.” Ghosn also complained that cyclists were free-spirits: “They don’t respect any rules usually.”

We noted a few months ago that companies were designing “bike to vehicle” systems so that the AVs would know where those pesky free-spirited cyclists were. Now, Carlton Reid of Bike Biz reports that even senior people in the bicycle industry support building beacons into bikes. At a recent symposium on the Future Networked Car, the general manager of the Confederation for the European Bicycle Industry said “Bicycles will definitely have to communicate with other vehicles.”

B2VBike to Vehicle/via

Manuel Marsilio is quoted by Reid:

“We need to find solutions to make cycling safer,” he said. “It is not easy for human drivers to see cyclists on the roads, to predict their movements, and at the same time bicycles are generally considered the most difficult detection problem that vehicles systems are currently facing.”

Sometimes, it is hard to tell what side of the road Mr. Marsilio is on:

While some cyclists know how they’re supposed to behave and sometimes, unfortunately, they don’t want to behave in a safe and respectful way. Some drivers don’t know how to properly share the road with cyclists. Moreover, infrastructure in many places doesn’t facilitate peaceful coexistence on the same roadways between cars and cyclists therefore the bicycle industry has started to work on creating [artificial intelligence]-based bicycle-to-vehicle communication systems to help drivers get alerts.

To which most bike riders would rise up and say Fix the damn infrastructure! Separate the bikes from the cars! But no, he continues promoting the techno-fix, the beacons on bikes and who knows, maybe people.

“We don’t know what’s gonna happen in 20 years, if we’re all gonna have chips in our bodies,” said Marsilio, “but to be frank I think it’s a matter of safety and we will have to find solutions for everybody’s safety so if that means we all have to have smartphones or smart watches or whatever it is to make everybody safe well, let’s see but that should be the direction that we have to follow.”

Of course, such a system won’t work unless everybody is turned into a beacon or is chipped somehow, and every moose in North America will have to be chipped as well. And who knows if it will actually work. But no doubt they will start with bikes, saying as they do with helmets, “if it saves just one life.”

The Vaccine Industry’s Biggest Threat? The Science of Wild Oregano Oil & The Diseases It Can Kill

Next Story

Here’s why vaccines are unnecessary: They are merely given purportedly to immunize against or shall it be said ‘prevent’ certain diseases, most of which are rarely fatal in first world countries. These are mostly transitory viral conditions. There are safer, less invasive answers.

Wild oregano oil is the key alternative. If it is from a truly wild source, then, it can be taken aggressively: as much as needed. Yet, for the typically immunized conditions only a modest amount is necessary, for instance, for chicken pox, measles, and mumps: like a few drops several times daily.

Wild oregano oil can also be rubbed topically on the feet, shins, and upper chest. It can even be used topically on newborns and infants. Babies and toddlers can take a tiny amount internally, like a drop or two twice daily. In this regard it is far safer than all standard drugs, like antibiotics, cough syrups, and even infant vitamins. – Dr Cass Ingram Researcher, Speaker & Author of  34 books

Yes, some very big claims are being made here, and when we have been told for so many years that diseases are only prevented by vaccines, this may be incredulous to believe.

However, could there be a lot of truth to this?  Are vaccines the only answer for keeping infectious diseases, viruses, bacterial infections and super bugs at bay?

The industry is predicted to be worth 61 Billion – and that is regarding its profits – by the year 2020.

Could there be something far more effective, which is safe when used correctly and doesn’t cost much money? Could there be something we can use at home that has zero risk of death? Vaccines certainly don’t offer us that, as death is actually a listed possible side effect on vaccine inserts.

We must also ask, with all of our medical ‘advancements’ and the amount of drugs that people are taking, why then, is our world full of incredibly sick adults and children, who are predicted to not live as long as their parents do today ?

We can now easily say that most people today do not have ‘real health’ so what we are doing for most on the planet today, is simply just not working.

Our future is in real danger collectively, and the shocking rise of cancer and auto-immune disorders that have seemed to happen to us very fast – too fast for it to be blamed entirely on ‘genes’.

A growing body of scientists, doctors and parents, say that vaccines are not the answer to keep people disease free, and are instead overloading our immune systems and causing poor health.

The Top 6 Reasons Why Parents Should Never Be Forced To Vaccinate Their Children

Were Dirty Living Conditions The Main Reason People Died Of Disease?

We can look at history and see how people lived back in the 1700 – 1900’s, when they did die very young. Many infants died at birth and those that did survive, often did not make it to adulthood.

If you take a look at old photographs (below), many people back then lived in cramped, dirty conditions with far too many living in one tiny cramped room.  Some of these rooms had none, or barely any, sunlight coming in, and their lavatories were often overflowing with human waste.

But what changed?  What caused the death rate to vastly improve? Author and historian, Leslie Albrecht Huber, had this to say about what the main cause was the improvement of diet and living conditions lowering death rates:

However, most historians feel that improvements in living conditions, particularly improvements in the diets of the lower class, may have had an even greater impact. Improved nutrition kept people healthier. The introduction of the potato helped lengthen life spans. The potato provided peasants with a cheap, healthy, mostly dependable food that became a staple in many of their diets. In addition, more knowledge about hygiene and public sanitation lowered death rates, especially in the cities.

Regarding small pox, it’s interesting to know that London’s first public green, Victoria Park, was developed due to fears diseases would start spreading out from the slums (where the inhabitants did not get much fresh air) to the areas where the wealthy lived.  “A park would diminish the annual deaths by several thousands, and add several years to the lives of the entire population,” claimed sanitary reformer William Farr.

The Condition Of  The Terrain Not The Germ Wipes Out People

I don’t think anyone would deny, that those poor, cramped and dirty living conditions would not have been at all ‘healthy’.

Those conditions are very much like the third world of today, where the average person does not have access to running water, clean houses, toilets or adequate food, and are often also living close to so many other people who live in the same dirty conditions.  It is why these third world countries  still have high rate of deaths due to disease.

Today, many of the public aren’t aware that the alarming death rate figures from disease they hear about are often used to scare people who live in first world countries into believing these diseases really are still a huge problem for all of us, and that they should only rely on vaccines to stay healthy.  Scare tactics often get people to comply with an agenda.

third world living conditions today – very similar to those of the 1800’s -1900’s.

Another Way To Fight Disease, Super bugs, Viruses and Bacterial Infections

However, with more and more people choosing not to vaccinate themselves or their children, it’s still very wise to never ignore the fact that disease and viruses can indeed be a very serious problem for some.

Therefore, we have to know, what can we take that is effective for keeping disease, viruses and superbugs at bay?

Powerful Natural Antibiotics

I am now going to share with you the wonderful benefits of using wild oregano oil as a medicine, which actually has a very long history of use throughout the ages.  You may be comforted to know there is a lot of science (interestingly, some research carried out by the FDA, USDA and even the Pentagon) to back up what I am about to tell you.

My aim is to make people aware that this is oil a must have for your own first aid kit and that you don’t need to fear disease, viruses and super bugs if you know what it has been proven to do and how to use it.

I also want to introduce you to the brilliant work of Dr Cass Ingram, an osteopathic physician, who has been a pioneer in the field of Wild Oregano Oil. There seems to be no one alive today, that knows more about wild oregano than he.

If the world started using this oil to treat their health conditions, and if hospitals also started using it, we would change the face of medicine and health of the world, literally over night. This is why this miraculous substance, is quite possibly the biggest threat to Pharmaceutical Companies, so I bet they do NOT want you learning about what this oil can do.

Drugs and vaccines included all have side effects, with some being deadly, whilst oregano oil has killed not one single person.  With the pharmaceutical industry being worth many billions of dollars each year (sometimes that profit is just for one medicine alone), a bottle of good quality wild oregano oil can set you back approximately $30 dollars and may last you a few months. It literally has an A-Z of uses, which means it would stop you from needing to spend money on other medicines.

Compare this small price, to that of the high price of drugs today (the market exceeded 1 Trillion dollars in 2014) and we can see why the drug industry does not want you to know about this natural medicine.

I am going to show you that wild oregano oil can be used to treat whooping-cough, meningitis, the flu, fungal infections, tropical diseases, respiratory issues plus a lot more.

At the bottom of this article you will find a helpful guide on how to use the oil for children of different ages and for adults.  I know, this is a long article, but I want you to see how much evidence there is for using wild oregano oil.

Oregano Oil Surpasses Antibiotics And Has No Resistance

Unfortunately, the antibiotics prescribed by most medical doctors today have horrendous side effects including: causing antibiotic resistance, destroying good bacteria (probiotics), reducing vitamin absorption and damaging the digestive lining causing leaky gut. Dr Josh Axe

It’s now commonly known amongst most doctors that antibiotics aren’t working very well these days, and the over prescribing of them have caused serious harm to people’s immune systems.  Ex CDC Director Dr Arjun Srinivasan had this to say about the antibiotic crisis:

‘We’re in the post-antibiotic era’ he said. ‘There are patients for whom we have no therapy, and we are literally in a position of having a patient in bed who has an infection, something five years ago even we could have treated, but now we can’t’

This is very concerning indeed, but what is most concerning is that it does not have to be this way.  We have an affordable and highly effective solution at our fingertips.

Oregano Oil Kills MSRA

MSRA, a type of bacteria known as a ‘superbug’, can prove deadly in some people, is now resistant to antibiotics.  Worryingly, many people actually develop this whilst they are in hospital where they were admitted for other health reasons.

It’s comforting to know that Oregano Oil (and it’s component carvacrol) has been shown in numerous studies to wipe out MSRA.  Scientists at the University of West Of England said it contains powerful anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties and has a long list of medicinal uses.  Tiny doses (less than 1 -1000) were shown to wipe out MSRA.

With this information, why then have hospitals globally not jumped at the chance to use oregano oil instead of continuing to use expensive antibiotics that just don’t really work well and are actually causing deaths in some cases?  It is estimated that 50,000 people in Canada and the USA alone die each year from MRSA.  If things keep going the way they are, some estimate MRSA could kill at least ten million people by the year 2050.

It begs the question, is the medical industry really doing the best it can for people?

Wild Oregano oil wipes out ALL bacteria.  Georgetown University showed in a study that oregano oil wiped out five tough bacteria’s such as staph, klebiella, mycobacterium, E.coli and even anthrax! Where are the studies showing that antibiotics do that?  Italian researchers found that oregano oil killed 13 types of bacteria’s.

Oregano Oil Proven To Treat So Many Other Conditions

It’s very exciting to also know that oregano oil can treat a whole array of health problems that can often be very serious. In an article by Dr Josh Axe, he shared that there are over 800 (actually the number at the time of writing this article it is now well over 1000) pubmed studies showing the benefits of carvacrol (the healing part found in oregano oil), and 583 studies on oregano oil for things such as:

Bacterial infections

Fungal infections

The video below shares an experiment a school student did to show that even tiny amounts of organic oregano oil killed more bacteria than the popular antibiotic amoxicillin:

Oregano Oil For Meningitis

Meningitis is one of the most feared infections a parent tends to be most concerned about their children getting.  Whilst meningitis can be viral, fungal and parasitical, the most serious kind is bacterial meningitis. Meningitis often first appears as a cold or flu, and for some children (and adults) it can then turn into something very severe, and fast.

It is very important therefore to look for signs and seek help fast if needed. However, it would perhaps be wise to always use wild oregano oil when your child is showing signs of a cold, to help stop it from turning into something worse.  The Neisseria strain of bacteria is thought to cause meningitis and oregano oil has been shown to destroy it.  To show you how powerful pure essential oils in general are, lemon oil has been shown by french Doctors to destroy meningitis in just 15 minutes.

Oregano Oil For Whooping Cough

For many parents, even the ones who have decided not to vaccinate their children, pertussis – which is known more commonly as whooping-cough – is one of the diseases they are often very concerned with and also very fearful of.  It can certainly be serious in already unwell infants, and if you have ever seen any videos of babies suffering from whooping-cough, it is quite distressing to see.

However, with what we know about antibiotics which are failing, and causing further health problems, could the treatment of whooping-cough be a lot more effective – or could it even be prevented by the use of oregano oil?  Whooping cough gives those affected a very dreadful thick mucous cough. Oregano oil can break down mucous as it’s a natural decongestant and antihistamine.

Whilst some natural doctors say that infants must not use oregano oil, Dr Cass Ingram says as long as you use a wild crafted, edible oil, and use it correctly it is completely fine.

visit this link for advice on how to use oregano oil for whooping-cough.

Oregano Oil For Respiratory Issues

Because our world is so polluted these days, it seems lots of people often suffer with chest infections that can last for weeks.  I see it everywhere and can tell by comments on social media, that it seems to be affecting people all over the world.

Oregano oil is one of the best things for chest infections and other respiratory issues , including asthma.  Taken internally, applied to the feet or rubbed diluted on the chest, it can work incredibly quickly, within hours, to help with respiratory infections.

Oregano Oil For Flu

It’s been a terrible flu season and I have seen so many people around the world, who have been very unwell.

However, despite the huge push for the flu vaccine, it simply did not give good results for keeping the flu at bay, or decreasing it’s severity.  Many studies are showing that the flu vaccine, at best, is only ‘effective’ against the flu in only 10% of people.

Put in other words, the flu vaccine has a 90% failure rate.

However using oregano oil, offers far better results. The flu, also known as the Influenza virus is said to be ten times more virulent than that of the common cold, and requires a stronger dose of oregano oil to kill the virus. In studies with human cells, it was shown to have an effect of 99.7% of destroying the virus.

Oregano oil is also a mucolytic, and is brilliant at breaking up mucous, which is one of the most annoying afflictions of having a cold or flu.  It therefore helps clear sinuses and breaks up the mucous – rather than suppressing it – in a chest cough.

I have personally had phenomenal results with using oregano oil this flu season and I was one of the very few people who I know of, who simply did not get the flu or even a bad cold.  The trick is taking the right kind and taking it often throughout those days where you feel like something is kicking in.  If the symptoms crop up again, then continue to take the oil until the symptoms goes away.

Travel Vaccines Not Needed When Oregano Oil Keeps Tropical Diseases At Bay

Many people who don’t vaccinate themselves or their children in first world countries, often do so when they are travelling to third world countries, thinking that this is their only guarantee of not succumbing to disease when they are travelling.  Travel vaccines are often given alongside several other types and this can be a very big knock to the immune system, and if anything could make one more susceptible to illness whilst away.

However, if you took wild oregano oil daily, it may be excellent for keeping you resistant to illness.  Wild oregano oil is also very good for treating diarrhoea and keeping food poisoning at bay. It has been shown to destroy e.coli, strep and salmonella. The FDA even published research in the Journal Of Food Protection (1999)

Oregano Oil  Is Anti-malarial

Malaria is a huge issue globally.  It is estimated that approximately 212 million cases of malaria, with close to 430,000 deaths occurred in 2015, with African countries suffering the most.  Common treatment for malaria is with very strong drugs to kill the parasite that mosquito’s can carry. These drugs have risks,  (including causing heart issues and death) and patients are recommended to be screened (some should have blood tests) before treatment but it’s highly unlikely this is being done throughout the third world, so it may be a fair question to ask, could these drugs be causing deaths in numbers greater than what we are told?  You can also experience bad side effects from anti-malarial drugs. They are also being linked to causing depression.

It’s interesting to know that Oregano oil and it’s compounds showed anti-malarial qualities, which makes sense because it’s a proven anti-parasitic substance.   For malaria, neem oil also has shown impressive results in the treatment of malaria.

In the third world, treatment for malaria is often with nothing, or with the malarial drugs.  However, perhaps it would be much more effective, cheaper and less risky to use some of these natural oils that have far more of a positive effect with less side effects.

Beware Oregano Oil Is Not Always Good Quality

There are many brands of oregano oil, but sadly they are not always what you pay for. Many are now being grown with GMO method, it is believed up to 30% of oils on the market are, so you really have to source a wild crafted brand.  There are some studies showing that oregano oil can harm the stomach, liver and heart, but this was  NOT from a genuine, wild, edible source of oregano oil.  Anything that is not 100% from nature is not the kind you should use.

Myths Regarding Infant Use Of Wild Oregano Oil

Unfortunately there are myths floating around the internet often even by herbalists and naturopaths, that oregano oil can’t be used on children under the age of 7. This is only partly true, in that it’s all about the type and quality of oil that is used.  If an essential oil is not pure, has been produced with GMO methods, then of course, it is not safe for children to use. However, if it is a true edible spice oil, like that of oreganol p73, then it is highly recommended to be used for many illnesses, even on babies 6 months and up.

I asked world-renowned oregano pioneer Dr Cass Ingram, if he felt that children under the age of 7 should not use oregano oil:

The spice oil oregano, the true wild spice-source, high-mountain grown, is safe for all ages and is surely safe for both topical use and in tiny amounts internal use for one year-olds-plus. It has been used, traditionally, in Turkey for respiratory in children for centuries.

As long the original Oreganol P73 is used, it is acceptable, safe, and is listed by the federal government, US, as GRAS (generally recognised as safe).

I hope that clears up the rumour that oregano oil should not be used in children. I feel that many children are missing out on its amazing benefits because of this rumour.

It’s important to also remember, that we have a medical system that says its recommended to give children many doses of antibiotics, regular doses of Tylenol, and of course, that its okay to give many multiple doses of toxic vaccines at once.  They never discuss the long-term effects of these on our children.

Remember: there have been NO deaths from effects of oregano oil so I hope that this puts the use of it on infants and children into perspective.

Guide:  How To Use Oregano Oil

It’s vital to know how to use the oil for it to be its most effective. Here is a guide, written by Dr Cass Ingram for you to follow:

Children – Age 6 months – 2 years

  • 1 drop of wild crafted oregano oil in milk or juice, once a day (kids may not like the taste, in this case try other methods as listed below)
  • can be used like this for 1 – 10 days, but do NOT exceed 10 days of use
  • for children with chest congestion, cold or fever, rub oil of oregano on the bottom of the feet at bedtime.  Cover feet with socks (2-3 drops per foot)

Children – Age 2 – 5 years

  • 1 drop of oregano oil in milk or juice (or can be mixed with honey on a spoon to cover the taste) once per day with a meal.
  • kids over the age of 2 can use this for more than 10 days
  • kids with cold or fever, rub oregano oil on bottom of feet at bedtime, 4 drops per foot.
  • for chest congestion, cold or fever rub 3 drops of oregano oil and 3 drops of rosemary oil to a teaspoon of carrier oil and rub over the chest and throat area. Be careful child does not rub the oil into their eyes. It can sting!

Children – Age 6 – 10 years

  • 1-3 drops of oregano oil in juice once per day, can be used for any number of days.
  • for cold or fever, rub 3 drops of oregano oil on bottom of feet at bedtime
  • for chest congestion, cold or fever,  rub 3-5 drops of oregano oil with 3-5 drops of rosemary into a teaspoon of carrier oil and rub over chest and throat area.

Children – Age 10 years and older

  • 2 drops of oregano oil in juice or under the tongue, 3 times a day
  • for chest congestion cold or fever rub oregano oil under the feet chest and throat area (5 drops of oregano oil & 5 drops of rosemary oil with 1 teaspoon of carrier oil)

I make my own rubbing oil that I use on both of my children, as a preventive and also when they are suffering from colds etc. I use it at least twice a day when they are ill. Because of the strong smell of oregano oil, it is a good idea to add other organic essential oils like lavender to make the scent much more pleasant to children.  As stated previously, be very careful of your children getting any oil on their fingers as they can then put in their eyes which will burn.

Adults can use higher doses for themselves, and I would consult the book The Cure Is In The Cupboard for recommendations of how much to use.

My personal favourite brand I use myself and on my family, is North American Herb and Spice Company’s P73 range. where they have many different wild oregano oil products to choose from.

If you are after just the oil please click here:  This is not an affiliated to CE by the way, or to myself.

The company source their hand-picked oregano from its native place, high up on the Mediterranean mountains and is a true wild, and edible oil.

If you are interested in learning more about Oregano oil I can recommend the following books:

The Cure Is In The Cupboard and The Miracle of Wild Oregano Oil, both by Dr Cass Ingram.

I really hope you have found this article interesting and that it may inspire you to use this incredible oil on your children and on yourself.

You can see why this oil is a huge threat to the drug companies, imagine if we all started using this instead of their products, it would cause them to go out of business overnight.

Microplastics are leaking directly from an industry manufacturing site, spreading across a large coastal region

Image: Microplastics are leaking directly from an industry manufacturing site, spreading across a large coastal region

(Natural News)
Microplastics have been leaking out into the environment by the millions from a manufacturing site in Stenungsund. But, far from just affecting the immediate area, these tiny plastic pellets have spread all over the coastal region.

This was what a team of researchers from Gothenburg University uncovered over the course of several studies. As Martin Hassellöv, a professor at the Department of Marine Sciences, explained: “In order to better understand how plastic pellets end up in the environment, we have documented, measured and calculated the flows of the pellets via waterways leading out from the production and distribution plants in Stenungsund where approximately five percent of the polyethene [sic] that is used in Europe is produced.”

Although a modest Swedish locality, Stenungsund is known for holding the country’s largest plastics and chemistry cluster. About five percent of the polyethene used in Europe is believed to originate from Stenungsund.

As such, the constant leakage from the Stenungsund manufacturing site has been estimated to number roughly three to 36 million pellets a year. If the fragments and fluff, which are even smaller plastic particles, were to be taken into consideration, however, then the leakage would be much greater than that. (Related: Do you have plastic in your gut? You might, if you drink water from the tap.)

“When we analyzed the smaller fractions, which are called fluff and fragment, the plastic leakage was more than a hundred times greater than when we only counted the pellets,” explained Therese Karlsson, a co-researchers of Hassellöv, who then added: “Moreover, we have seen that there are more leakage problems in conjunction with the transport, cleaning, loading and storing of pellets further along the production chain.”

The leakage has caused the site’s microplastics to disperse across the coast and end up as far as the adjacent archipelago. This was in spite of the many international agreements and Swedish laws that were set in place to prevent this type of environmental incident. The studies have demonstrated the lack of regulatory enforcement, which in turn, the researchers believe, was brought about by the poor implementation of supervisory procedures.

The effects of plastic pellets on marine environments and wildlife have been the subject of discussion since the 1970s, according to In response to this, the U.S. introduced legislative recommendations to control microplastics as far back as the 1990s. Only recently has microplastics been placed under scientific and public scrutiny in Sweden.

In fact, it was only last year that the country announced it would be adopting a ban against microbeads in rinse-off cosmetics. As per, the ban will be applicable to cosmetic and personal care products that “contain plastic particles with a cleaning, scrubbing or polishing function.” This includes toothpastes, body scrubs, shower gels, shampoos, and conditioners. The ban will come into effect during July of this year, though any products that were purchased in stock prior to July can be sold until January 2019.

“It is completely unnecessary to add microplastic in rinseable cosmetics,” said Environment Minister Karolina Skog. She added that hazelnut, coconut shell, and other natural alternatives can achieve the same effect as these microbeads.

Whether or not this same rigidity will be administered to the microplastics coming from Stenungsund remains to be seen. There are already existing accountability regulations, and they’ve had no effect so far.

Follow the money: Monsanto-influenced lawmakers side with chemical industry, question IARCs findings on glyphosate, threaten to cut funding to the WHO

Image: Follow the money: Monsanto-influenced lawmakers side with chemical industry, question IARCs findings on glyphosate, threaten to cut funding to the WHO

(Natural News)
The strong political influence of the chemical industry was illustrated perfectly in a recent House Science Committee hearing in which Republican lawmakers questioned the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)’s classification of glyphosate as a probable carcinogen. Taking it one step further, they even threatened to cut off funding for the IARC, which is part of the World Health Organization.

When the IARC gave glyphosate this classification in 2015, they immediately found themselves in the crosshairs of industry groups and the lawmakers whose pockets are padded by them. Glyphosate is the key ingredient in the most widely used weed killer on the planet, Monsanto’s Roundup, which has been regularly sprayed on crops like corn, cotton, and soybeans since the 1970s as well as golf courses and lawns. Monsanto also sells seeds that have been genetically modified to withstand glyphosate spraying as the weeds around them die.

Monsanto reported net sales amounting to $2.7 billion in the fourth quarter of the 2017 fiscal year alone, so coming up with the funds to convince those in power to favor their stance has never been a problem. According to records from the Center for Responsive Politics, Monsanto’s federal lobbying spending exceeded $4.3 million last year. In the 2016 election cycle, Monsanto’s political action committee and executives made federal political donations to the tune of $600,000, most of which went to Republicans in farm states.

In the hearing, Representative Lamar Smith (R-Texas) said the IARC’s classification was “not backed by reliable data” and was “unsubstantiated,” apparently disregarding the countless studies that led the respected agency to reach its conclusion in the first place. Then came the threat: “The selective use of data and the lack of public disclosure raise questions about why IARC should receive any government funding in the future.”

National Resources Defense Council scientists Jennifer Sass said during her testimony: “Fundamentally, this hearing is about the ability of a public health agency to call a carcinogen a carcinogen, even if it makes a huge amount of money for a powerful corporation. Are we willing to sell out the public’s right to know about harmful chemicals in the places we work, live and play, just so that Monsanto can sell more glyphosate?”

A report was released prior to the hearing in which House Science Committee Democrats sided with Sass, outlining the attempts made by the industry to control public discourse about glyphosate and silence the studies describing its harm.

Monsanto’s long history of deception

This is far from a conspiracy theory; Monsanto’s deceitful behavior has been exposed in internal documents obtained via court-ordered discovery as part of class action lawsuits on behalf of people who developed a type of blood cancer known as non-Hodgkin lymphoma after being exposed to Roundup. In the more than 700 pages of internal memos, emails, and other documents that were posted, it is clear that Monsanto has been colluding with U.S. regulators and misleading regulators in Europe.

Discovery documents unsealed by the judge also showed Monsanto’s questionable research practices, very friendly ties with top EPA officials, and evidence that they paid scientists to sign their names on studies ghostwritten by Monsanto to paint its products in a positive light.

Monsanto has long known that glyphosate can cause cancer, and it is well-documented that glyphosate exposure is also linked to liver cancer, thyroid cancer, pancreatic cancer, kidney cancer, and colon cancer. The company is now facing a string of class action lawsuits from plaintiffs including farmers, agricultural workers, and those who live near farms. Despite all this, they still expect us to swallow the narrative that the science is wrong and it’s just a big coincidence that all these people are dying from exposure to their products.

These Pictures Offer Incredible Insight Into How The Advertising Industry Exploits Women

Next Story

In recent years, the world of fashion and advertising has distastefully blurred the lines between right and wrong, creating a pronounced grey area of supposedly acceptable imagery which includes everything from BDSM and rape to abuse, aggression, and underage perversion. And this phenomenon can’t simply be narrowed down to ‘artistry’ when the symbolism is so blatantly sexist and even morbid.

I mean, is it appropriate for 4-year olds to have a lingerie line, never mind to be photographed in them? I have a 2-year old niece and while I think it’s adorable for her to have cute bathing suits, I would never allow her to wear something provocative in any way. It’s heavily insinuated that Americans are just uptight when it comes to sex, and in many respects this is true, but there is a line that must be drawn when it comes to children that culture cannot influence.

So while Luis Paredes, the publisher of The Lingerie Journal, may blithely assert that “while Americans may be shocked, the line of clothing wouldn’t cause a ripple in Europe,” the reality is that we are looking at the exploitation of children. We may have antiquated views about breastfeeding and sex, to be sure, but sexualized images of children are in a whole different ballpark, and considering the UK’s current heavy investigation into pedophile rings being attended by high government officials, maybe these ads should be causing some ripples.

Kylie Jenner, an heiress of the Kardashian clan, has received heavy media attention over her recent lip injection (to each their own), but it was this particular photo shoot that brought her under major scrutiny. The cover image for Interview magazine features Kylie in a wheelchair. Why?

Shot by Steven Klein, the shoot is supposed to be reminiscent of work produced by Allen Jones, a British pop artist famous for his controversial sculptures of half-naked women on all fours and in other submissive positions being used as human furniture. Quite objectifying. (You can view the full gallery here.)

These next few images highlight the absurdity of advertisements today, switching the sex of the subject (or should I say object) in the ad to underscore how ridiculous and demeaning their roles truly are. Thanks to Lauren Wade from Take Part for creating these images.

Sisley ad, photographed by Terry Richardson, 2006

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen sexual abuse in advertisements and it definitely isn’t less upsetting when a guy takes her place. The disturbing tone of this ad is hardly surprising considering it was shot by the infamous Terry Richardson, who carries a string of sexual misconduct allegations with models under his belt. I mean the guy himself said, “It’s not who you know, it’s who you blow. I don’t have a hole in my jeans for nothing.”

Tom Ford for Men ad, photographed by Terry Richardson, 2007

Well we certainly know that sex sells, but why is this appropriate as an advertisement, yet women are still being shunned into bathroom stalls to breastfeed their babies? It’s easy to see how much less appealing this is with men’s breasts instead.

American Apparel ad, 2010

Wondering what the purpose of this ad is? You’re not alone, since this is a product that is clearly marketed to women. But these images really come as no surprise. American Apparel CEO Dov Charney was unceremoniously dismissed from his position in December of 2014 because of the A.A. board’s “ongoing investigation into alleged misconduct”  — which includes (but is not limited to): holding an employee as a personal sex slave for eight months, sexually harassing multiple models and employees, assaulting a store manager, using ethnic and racist slurs with staff, and masturbating in front of a reporter in a 2004 Jane magazine article.

American Apparel ad, 2007

If this really is an ad marketed to women, what kind of message is it supposed to send? This image is pretty standard for the company though, considering they once featured then-CEO Dov Charney in bed with models in one ad and having his crotch licked in another. How did it get this far to publication? Even with a male on display it’s pretty disturbing, but at least brings some humour. Interesting that one is sexy and the other comical.

Marc Jacobs ad, photographed by Juergen Teller, 2008

What do you think this ad is trying to illustrate? Why would a brand use a wrinkled bag to market their products?

These images only provide a glimpse at broad the spectrum of degradation toward women present in advertising and if you think the images itself are enough to make you ponder, imagine what goes on at these shoots or even at the castings.

Charlotte Waters was a 19-year-old art student when she contacted Terry Richardson for a shoot, having only heard he was a good connection to make and work with. “He had me unbutton his pants, and he took his penis out, and it was all completely downhill from there.” She said in an interview with Vocativ. He even went as far as ejaculating on her face.

Sara Ziff, founder of advocacy group Model Alliance, was also 19 when her agency sent her to Richardson. “It was supposed to be for a mainstream fashion magazine, but when I arrived, he unexpectedly asked me to pose topless,” she says. “I felt pressured to comply because my agent had told me to make a good impression because he was an important photographer who shot for all the major magazines and brands.” On HuffPost Live, Ziff exclaimed, “[Richardson] will ask you to take your clothes off at the casting, and in some cases, give him sexual favors.”

Model Alliance is Sara Ziff’s effort to establish fair labor standards for models working in the American fashion industry. She hopes to protect working models from exploitation, especially from sexual abuse, and to improve the lot of its members in terms of pay and working conditions. It has drawn up a “Models’ Bill of Rights.”

Model Alliance was inspired by Sara’s time working on the documentary Picture Me

Sara had this to say about the documentary in an interview with Fashionista:

[“Picture Me”] was on the festival circuit in 2009, and it was really at Q&A discussions for the film that we started talking about the need for a union, like the equivalent of the Screen Actors’ Guild, which is now SAG-AFTRA, for models. Models would come to these screenings and get really emotional talking about bad experiences they’ve had, and the film became this organizing tool to raise awareness publicly, but also within the industry. We wanted an existing union to extend membership to models, but when it became clear that that wasn’t possible, I was crazy enough to take it upon myself and start up from scratch, which people warned me not to do, but I also was studying labor and organizing in college.

The majority of models start their careers before the age 16, with most working unchaperoned and far from home. This creates an unconscionable environment of coercion, where the incentive to get hired (and remain employed) is enough to keep most girls quiet. Sara Ziff talks about her own experience with this firsthand at the age of 14:

When I entered the business as a 14-year-old schoolgirl, I was routinely asked to do topless shoots and pose seductively. To this day, in an industry dominated by minors, there is no policy of informed consent for jobs involving full or partial nudity. A recent survey shows that 86.8% of models have been asked to pose nude at a casting or job without advance notice.

Girl Model is another documentary exposing the terrifyingly young age at which some models start working. The film follows 13-year-old Siberian-born model Nadya Vall on her quest to become a model, accompanied most of the time by Ashley Arbaugh, the American modeling scout (and former model) who discovers her.

In my opinion, to be successful and thrive in the fashion industry, you need to have a sound idea of who you are as an individual and what you stand for, and unfortunately, most girls who are recruited at 14 or younger are still discovering who they are and what their place is in the world. This makes it easier for agents and scouts to shape them into who they think they should be, almost inevitably promoting a mental instability and dependency on those around them.

This article can only provide for you a different perspective on the reality that certain individuals in the fashion industry must face. Like with all things in life, there are great things about this industry and there are terrible, but it just seems that most of the ‘bad’ has been swept under the rug, with little to no attention being paid to the bigger fallacies presented by advertising companies.

Images like these allow us to see the toxic leaks that are trickling into our society, helping us to be more critical about what we are ingesting visually and more proactive in learning more about a massive money making machine that bombards us with a skewed view of the world from all sides.

Stay critical and stay aware, it helps to shift perspectives and ultimately the industry.

Senate Grants A $1 Billion Handout To Save The Failing Dairy Industry

Next Story

As the modern-day consumer continues to opt for plant-based alternatives to milk, the dairy industry is failing and is now relying on government handouts to survive. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, these times are changing!

Last week, the United States senate signed a budget agreement to grant a whopping $1 Billion to the dairy and livestock industries. These funds allocated will be used for programs that are designed to help the dairy industry recover from a long-time slump in dairy prices. The industry has been affected by a number of different factors which include consumer habits and lifestyle.

Over the past several years, we have seen Americans opting towards plant-based alternatives. While we don’t know exactly why, we can speculate that it has to do with the growing awareness of the horrors that take place on factory farms, the environmental implications, and more evidence that pasteurized milk from cows is making us sick. Whatever the reason – the dairy industry is failing.

In 2016, dairy farmers across the nation dumped 43 million gallons of unsold milk into manure lagoons, fields and into animal feed. Last year, the surplus of milk hit 78 million gallons as dairy sales have been consistently on the decline. We have seen some larger dairy companies try to adapt to the changing consumer demands, such as Elmhurst Dairy, which has shifted it’s gears to nut milks, completely dropping dairy after 90 years.

Danone – a popular brand of yogurt, has now acquired WhiteWave Foods, which is a parent company of popular plant-based brands such as Silk, Vega, Alpro and So Delicious. There is no doubt about it, people are truly waking up. Seeing large corporations like the ones listed above making these types of transitions is very telling.

Change IS Possible

To everyone who remains hopeless and believes that no good will ever happen, nothing will change and that we can’t really make a difference, I hope this serves as a big old pile of hope for you. It is one out of many examples that prove that there are things in our society that are changing for the better and that change is absolutely possible. Having awareness is one of the first steps towards creating real change on the planet, and in a large way we can thank the internet for spreading the truth about the dairy industry and what has inevitably led consumers to make more educated, ethical, and health conscious decisions for themselves and their families.

Now the real question is, why is the government handing this money over? Can’t that $1 Billion be used in a better way? Sure, dairy farmers are going to have to figure out an alternative, but this is a good sign. Clearly this industry isn’t coming back, maybe that money could be used to help the existing dairy farms transition over to more sustainable options.

Still Drinking Milk From Cows?

That’s okay, I’m not here to judge, but perhaps this information will open your mind to consider other options? Sooner or later cow milk may not even be an option for you. There is some evidence that shows how raw milk may be beneficial for us to consume, but the cons do outweigh the pros. Not to mention raw milk remains illegal in the United States and Canada, and when there are so many viable alternatives, is it really worth it? Why not save the cow milk for the growing baby calves who need it the most?

Beware Of Synthetic Preservatives & Chemicals

It is important to know that just because something is vegan, or labeled as “plant-based” doesn’t necessarily mean that it is healthy. It is important to do your research and choose the brands from ethical companies that use good, wholesome ingredients. As many companies have jumped on the nut milk train, they don’t all have the best intentions, and some have done so for the sheer purpose of profit – like so many other companies in the world today. As the consumer, we have a vote in the types of products that are being produced.

Better yet, make your own nut milks. Not only is this a super simple process, but it is much healthier as you get to choose exactly what ingredients are being used. An added bonus is that by making your own, you will be producing much less waste, especially if you buy your nuts in bulk. Essentially, this is a win-win – more healthy, less wasteful and did I mention that homemade nut milks are way more delicious? Try it and see for yourself.

FAKE MEDICINE: “Randomized” drug trial protocols are frequently altered by industry sponsors who selectively remove participants that get sick

Image: FAKE MEDICINE: “Randomized” drug trial protocols are frequently altered by industry sponsors who selectively remove participants that get sick

(Natural News)
When it comes to making and approving pharmaceutical drugs, the science and procedure behind the process is readily corruptible. It can be manipulated to fulfill the wishes of pharmaceutical companies. A team of researchers from the Nordic Cochrane Centre in Copenhagen has exposed widespread corruption in drug trial protocols.

The research, first published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, exposed widespread redactions in drug trial protocols for commercially sponsored drug trials received from research ethics committees. The trial protocols are necessary for the proper assessment of drug trial reports, which ultimately relay the adverse events and side effects associated with the drug. By redacting trial protocols at will, pharmaceutical companies are able to hide selective information about new drugs they wish to market. The redactions enable Big Pharma to withhold important data from independent researchers and regulatory agencies. This data is important for assessing patient outcomes.

Professor Peter Gøtzsche, director of the Nordic Cochrane Centre, came forth with the findings: “We wished to compare the information in the protocols with the information provided to the patients in order to evaluate whether the trials were ethical and necessary and whether essential information about the benefits and the harms of the drugs had been hidden from the patients.”

Using the Danish Freedom of Information Act, Professor Gøtzsche and his team were able to access 78 drug trial protocols approved by a research ethics committee from October 2012 to March 2013.

Of the drug trials they investigated, 36 were not commercially sponsored by the drug industry. Almost every single one of these drug trials was not tampered with. Just two of the trials were redacted. In contrast, there were 34 drug trials sponsored by the drug industry and half of these studies (17) were redacted. Worse yet, the redactions were prominent in the protocol “where there is empirical evidence of substantial problems with the trustworthiness of published drug trials.” In essence, drug companies have the power to hide drug trial results they do not like by tampering with the scientific protocol used to study the drugs.

More specifically, the redactions were widespread when adverse events were detected, when side effects were analyzed, and in determining the definition of patient outcomes. By redacting the protocol, drug companies can make a drug look safer than it really is, artificially reducing the number of adverse events or side effects associated with the drug. Redactions were also made by drug company sponsors whenever they felt that their “access to incoming data” invalidated the protocol. This is an open door for drug companies to manipulate the science for their benefit, blinding the public to the potential harms of new drugs.

Professor Gøtzsche iterated: “The amount of redactions in the protocols we received was so vast that it made them rather useless for assessing the ethical justification for the studies and to identify discrepancies with subsequent publications.”

The Professor said that there was no legitimate rationale for the redactions either. “The current mistrust in industry-sponsored drug trials can only change if the industry offers unconditional access to its trial protocols and other relevant documents and data,” he warned.

When pharmaceutical drugs come out, people are merely lab rats. Even common drugs, such as Tamiflu, cause deadly and debilitating effects that are kept hidden by redacting drug protocols. Across the U.S., children are experiencing severe hallucinations and other mysterious nervous system defects after taking Tamiflu. As families lose their loved ones to drug reactions, we must wonder how much information is being withheld about the drugs, and will anything ever be done to hold malicious medicine and bought-off science accountable?

Plastic pollution is threatening fish populations and the fishing industry in Central America

Image: Plastic pollution is threatening fish populations and the fishing industry in Central America

(Natural News)
Plastic pollution is posing a threat to fish populations and fishing industry in Central America as a fisherman discovered plastics and other discarded materials, such as bottle caps, bits of plastic, a mangle comb, and a cigarette lighter, in the stomach of a mahi-mahi or also known as dolphinfish.

The fisherman, who was on a trip in Costa Rica, took a video of himself cutting open the stomach of a mahi-mahi, which he thought was sick. The video was taken in early Dec. 2017, and raised concern from wildlife groups and environmentalists in Costa Rica. The video serves as evidence of the increasing pollution levels that may be a threat to fishing industries. (Related: The plastic pollution problem is wide AND deep: Study finds sea animals from the deepest parts of the ocean, 7 miles down, have plastic in their stomachs)

“This confirms that different marine animals confuse plastic with food. The plastic does not melt and can block their intestinal tract, and then they cannot feed — preventing them from consuming food, and starving [them to death],” Erick Ross, a marine scientist, told Newsflare, as cited by Lifezette.

Fish confuse plastics with food

In a study, published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, it was revealed that marine organisms confuse plastic with food. The study was carried out by a team of researchers from the University of California, Davis and the Aquarium of the Bay. In conducting the study, the research team presented schools of wild-caught anchovies with plastic debris acquired from the oceans, and with clean pieces of plastic that had never been in the ocean. The researchers compared their responses to the food and food odor presentations. Marine organisms may have thought that plastic debris in the oceans are food because these tiny plastics acquire a covering of biological material, such as algae, that imitates the smell of food.

The finding of the study revealed that the anchovies responded to the odors of the ocean debris similar to the way they reacted to the smell of the food they seek, with increased aggregation and reduced rheotaxis. This suggests that the chemical signature of plastic debris was enticing to fish. In addition, this shows that fish are eating the tiny pieces intentionally because they think of them as food, which makes it an additional threat of plastic in the ocean.

“When plastic floats at sea its surface gets colonised by algae within days or weeks, a process known as biofouling. Previous research has shown that this algae produces and emits DMS, an algal based compound that certain marine animals use to find food,” Matthew Savoca, of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and lead author of the study, told The Guardian.

He further explained that the study indicates plastic may be “more deceptive to fish” than previously thought. This is because plastic both appears and smells like food, which makes it more difficult for animals, such as fish, to identify it as a non-edible item.

Plastic debris, whether microscopic or large visible pieces, continue to pollute the oceans. However, efforts by other countries only had little effect so far. Microbeads, which were widely used in cosmetics and other products, were banned in the U.S., the U.K., and other countries because they have been found to harm marine life and bring toxic chemicals into the food chain.
