Taxpayers Shell Out $175K for Brave Cop Fired by Dept. for Refusing to Kill a Man

madermader

Weirton, WV — As TFTP reported last year, former Weirton police officer Stephen Mader sued the city after he was fired for not killing a suicidal man who needed help.

It was reported this week that Mader will be receiving $175,000 in a settlement as a result of his unnecessary firing.

“At the end of the day, I’m happy to put this chapter of my life to bed,” Mader said. “The events leading to my termination were unjustified and I’m pleased a joint resolution has been met.

“My hope is that no other person on either end of a police call has to go through this again,” said Mader, who still lives in Weirton with his family but now drives trucks for a living, according to WPXI.

As we reported at the time, on May 6, 2016, Mader responded to a domestic call about a suicidal person. When he arrived on the scene, Mader confronted 23-year-old Ronald D. Williams who was armed and mentally distraught.

Madar said that he began talking to the young man in his “calm voice.”

“I told him, ‘Put down the gun,’ and he’s like, ‘Just shoot me.’ And I told him, ‘I’m not going to shoot you brother.’ Then he starts flicking his wrist to get me to react to it.

“I thought I was going to be able to talk to him and de-escalate it. I knew it was a suicide-by-cop” situation,” Mader said, adding that, “He wasn’t screaming, yelling, he wasn’t angry. He just seemed distraught. Whenever he told me to shoot him it was as if he was pleading with me. At first, I’m thinking, ‘Do I really need to shoot this guy?’ But after hearing ‘just shoot me’ and his demeanor, it was, ‘I definitely can’t.’”

Mader showed incredible restraint in the situation, even though Williams was attempting to provoke a suicide by cop.

Sadly, as Mader began to reason with Williams and de-escalate the situation, backup arrived, and another officer immediately shot and killed Williams without a second of consideration.

To add insult to injury, Mader was fired for his restraint, and the officer who murdered Williams was cleared of all wrongdoing, showing that the police department is explicitly encouraging indiscriminate killings.

Now, Mader is understandably reconsidering his career choices and has filed a lawsuit against the city that employed him.

“I loved being a police officer. And for them to say because of this incident you’re not going to continue here was heartbreaking. It had me questioning myself, should I be an officer,” Mader told NBC.

West Virginia attorney and ACLU representative Timothy P. O’Brien is helping to bring the lawsuit against the city.

“The City of Weirton’s decision to fire officer Mader because he chose not to shoot and kill a fellow citizen, when he believed that he should not use such force, not only violates the Constitution, common sense and public policy but incredibly punishes restraint.

When given the tragic and far too frequent unnecessary use of deadly force, such restraint should be praised not penalized. To tell a police officer, when in doubt either shoot to kill or get fired, is a choice that no police officer should ever have to make and is a message that is wrong and should never be sent,” O’Brien said.

“There’s the thin blue line, and one of the ironies of this case is that as we’ve seen across the county how many instances police have used deadly force in circumstances where that force is questioned, but nothing is ever done. In most cases, you don’t see training or suspension. When you contrast with what Officer Mader did and how he’s been treated, and officers who’ve used deadly force and how they’ve been treated, it speaks volumes to why we have a problem with deadly force in this country,” O’Brien added.

Mader has no regrets and still believes he did the right thing.

“I wouldn’t change anything. Even after them saying that I failed to eliminate a threat and that it should have been handled differently, I still believe I did the right thing. And a lot of people think I did the right thing, too. I know it’s not just me,” he said. And he’s right, TFTP knows Mader did the right thing, which is why we’ve been reporting on it for two years.

Shooting and killing suicidal or mentally distraught people sadly seems to be the standard operating procedure for police across the country. We have covered countless cases over the years where officers have indiscriminately killed suicidal people instead of helping them out.

Obviously, if a family member makes a phone call to police because a loved one is suicidal, the last thing they want is for someone to get hurt, but when police arrive the situation tends to escalate quickly and result in violence.

Cleveland Clinic medical director FIRED for daring to question "vaccine cult" medical dogma

Image: Cleveland Clinic medical director FIRED for daring to question “vaccine cult” medical dogma

(Natural News)
There is a famous expression that admonishes: “While you live, tell the truth and shame the Devil.” Unfortunately, however, some who live by this admonition find themselves shamed, instead. Dr. Daniel Neides discovered this truth when he was fired from his position as Medical Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute – one of the largest and most respected hospitals in the country – for daring to write a blog post in which he questioned the use of formaldehyde in a “preservative-free” flu vaccine.

Like the vast majority of American healthcare professionals, Dr. Neides is neither anti-vaccine nor absolutely pro-vaccines. Nonetheless, he is committed enough to the welfare of his patients to ask the tough questions and speak the truth as he sees it. After all, that’s what someone in his position is hired to do.

Health Impact News reports that the Cleveland Clinic is world-renowned for its “out-of-the-box” thinking. The clinic’s website promises:

We are a nonprofit multispecialty academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education.

Cleveland Clinic is one of the largest and most respected hospitals in the country. Our mission is to provide better care of the sick, investigation into their problems, and further education of those who serve. [Emphasis added]

Surely that is what Dr. Neides was trying to do – provide better care for the sick and investigate the possible root causes of some of their problems?

Apparently, that’s not how the clinic saw the matter. Instead of praising Dr. Neides for his boldness and willingness to speak out about his own bad experiences with the flu vaccine, the doctor was accused of spreading “harmful myths and untruths about vaccinations,” and fired from his respected, and no doubt hard-earned, position.

Health Impact News makes the important point that someone does not rise to the position Dr. Neides was entrusted with if they are an anti-science, anti-vaccine heretic. Instead, as the site reported:

Dr. Neides is a brilliant medical doctor who thinks “outside the box” looking for causes of disease and is not afraid to travel down the road truth leads him, no matter what the cost, and therefore upset the political system in place to protect the multi-billion dollar vaccine market.

And what were these terrible, heretical, anti-science things the doctor posted on his blog?

He simply noted that like many Americans he had followed the admonition of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and dutifully gone for his flu shot. Wary of the thimerosal (mercury) in some vaccines, Dr. Neides made sure to choose the “preservative-free” vaccine. He was understandably horrified when he later discovered that though the vaccine did not contain thimerosal, it did contain formaldehyde. He was well within his rights to state:

WHAT? How can you call it preservative-free, yet still put a preservative in it? And worse yet, formaldehyde is a known carcinogen. Yet, here we are, being lined up like cattle and injected with an unsafe product. Within 12 hours of receiving the vaccine, I was in bed feeling miserable and missed two days of work with a terrible cough and body aches. (Related: There is deadly formaldehyde in clothing, food, cigarettes and vaccines – what will you be wearing, eating, smoking and injecting today?)

So, what exactly is it that Dr. Neides did wrong? All he did was point out (correctly) that even so-called “preservative-free” vaccines contain dangerous ingredients, and that he had personally had a negative experience with the influenza vaccine.

Fortunately, brave people like Dr. Neides cannot be silenced. They speak the truth as they find it, and we should all be grateful for their bravery. (Related: Discover more truth at Vaccines.news.)

Cop Fired for Shooting 9yo Girl in the Head As He Tried to Kill Her Dog in a Room Full of Kids

dogdog

Wichita, KS — In just a matter of a few days, cops in Wichita proved their incompetent and dangerous nature and showed the country that they are in dire need of de-escalation training. In December, an innocent man was murdered by Wichita police for the ‘crime’ of opening his front door in front of frightened trigger happy cops. Now, a cop has actually been fired after he shot a little girl inside her own home just two days after they killed the innocent man.

At the beginning of the month, a Witchita cop was placed on administrative leave after discharging his firearm inside a family’s home—in a cowardly attempt to kill a dog—and hitting a little girl instead. Now, in an actual moment of accountability, Officer Dexter Betts was fired this week in response to his potentially deadly act.

The officer was hired last January and barely made it a year before being fired.

As KAKE reports, officers were called at around 6:15 p.m. to the report of a domestic disturbance and suicidal person in the 1500 block of North Gentry, near 13th and Hillside. Officer Paul Cruz said in a news release that officers were told a 33-year-old man in the home had held a gun in his mouth and choked a dog.

When officers arrived at the home, instead of getting the woman and four children to safety, they went in guns blazing after learning that the gun the man had held in his mouth was under a pillow in a bedroom.

“While the officers were retrieving the gun, a mid-sized mixed breed dog charged at one of the officers,” the release said.” The officer pulled his service weapon and shot at the dog, missing it.”

The dog is described as a small 35-pound miniature English bull terrier name Chevy.

The poorly aimed shot then ricocheted off the floor and a fragment of the bullet struck the innocent 9-year-old girl in the forehead just above her right eye. Had the bullet struck just an inch lower, the poor girl could’ve been permanently blinded or worse.

Danielle Maples, the girl’s mother recounted the horrifying experience to the press noting that her daughter was sitting down on the couch when she was struck in the head. Also, her 6-year-old son was standing right next to the officer when he fired not one but two shots.

The little girl was brought to the hospital and treated for her injuries. Luckily, Maples’ three other children were not physically injured. However, the emotional scarring left by this experience could last a lifetime.

Maples explained how at the hospital doctors removed three fragments of the bullet from her daughter’s head showing just how close she’d come to being blinded.

Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay reportedly told Maples that he watched the body camera from the officers in the room when Betts opened fire.

As Kansas.com reports, she said Ramsay told her in a phone conversation “that what he witnessed was not only morally wrong but against their protocols and training.” He didn’t say why, she said.

As for the suicidal man in the home, luckily he was not killed and completely cooperated with police. He was also brought to a hospital where he was given a mental health exam, according to the police statement.

According to the Wichita Eagle, the case will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office in addition to an internal review to determine if department policies were followed.

Sadly, police officers attempting to kill dogs and hitting innocent people in the process is an all too common occurrence.

As TFTP previously reported, responding to the house of a woman requesting medical treatment, a Columbus police officer arrived at the front door and immediately shot her 4-year-old daughter when attempting to kill their dog. Fearing that a jury would award the family substantially more money, the Columbus City Council unanimously approved a $780,000 settlement with the innocent girl’s family.

Prior to shooting the little girl, a police officer in Iowa shot and killed an innocent woman while attempting to kill her dog.

Gabriel Steele was loading up their 4-year-old son when the couple’s dog came playfully running out of the house. Officer Jesse Hill was at the Steele residence acting as an escort in a domestic dispute incident when he saw the dog and feared for his life. He then pulled his sidearm and fired off at least two rounds, one which fatally struck Gabriel’s wife Autumn.

Witnesses say that at this time the dog was being playful, but apparently still threatened the officer which caused him to draw his pistol and begin shooting. Video confirmed this claim, yet the officer involved was never charged with a crime.

It’s not only innocent children and woman who are hurt when cops fear dogs, it’s also their fellow cops. An NYPD officer executing a search in the hunt for a robbery suspect earlier this year accidentally shot a U.S. marshal in the foot when he fired at a dog.

When officers aren’t properly trained to deal with situations such as these, tragedy is often the outcome.

While tasked with the authority to carry a deadly weapon in all situations, this heavy responsibility is often disregarded, with innocent civilians — as well as other officers — becoming victims in the process.

WATCH: Fired Federal Heights Cop Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Suspect

June 30, 2015

A former Federal Heights Police Department officer pleaded guilty to attempted assault in June after he lost his cool with a robbery suspect, slinging the man into a refrigerator and punching him inside a holding cell.

Mark Magness, who was fired in December after the incident, was sentenced to one year of probation and will pay court costs.

It was the second time in Magness’ career that he was criminally charged for using excessive force against a suspect. In 2009, he pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment and was allowed to remain a Federal Heights police officer.

Chief Karl Wilmes said he did not know why Magness was not terminated in 2009. He was not the chief during that investigation and told The Denver Post on Tuesday that he didn’t know the facts of the first case.

However, he fired Magness on December 29 after fellow officers reported the incident to their commanders.

“The message is that this police department, and all police departments really, have a high degree of professional standards,” Wilmes said. “When violations come to our attention we take those seriously.”

Magness and a second officer involved in the December arrest recorded the encounter on their body cameras.

Wilmes declined to name the second officer or disclose how that officer had been punished for his involvement, saying it was a personnel issue. The second officer remains on the force.

Don Sisson, Magness’ attorney, said his client no longer works in law enforcement. The firing will not be appealed, he said.

The video began as the suspect arrived at a police station in the back of a patrol car. He was lying across the seat with his hands cuffed behind his back.

When the suspect said he couldn’t get out, Magness dragged him out the door and onto the ground. They pulled the man to his feet, and he appeared to be drunk and unstable.

As Magness escorted the suspect into the station, he flung him into a refrigerator. The man’s face was cut.

Once inside the police station, Magness shouted and cursed at the suspect. And when the suspect took a swing at the officer while in a holding cell, Magness jumped on him and began punching.

Magness also shoved a restraint chair across the station, sending a metal garbage can careening through the room. He ordered the other officer to tie the suspect into the chair while he held the man down while squeezing his temples.

At one point, the suspect said, “Ow!”

Magness replied, “No, this is ‘ow,’” as he drove a finger into the man’s neck.

He also told the suspect, “You picked the wrong cops to fight with, man.”

The other officer was seen motioning toward Magness in an effort to remind him that the body cameras are rolling. Magness also told the other officer not to worry about calling for medical help because the suspect’s face was bleeding.

“I don’t care,” Magness said. “Strap him in the chair.”

Once a sergeant arrived, Magness told him the suspect had taken a swing at him.

“I busted him up,” Magness said on the video. “I take full responsibility.”

WATCH: New Orleans Cop Fired For ‘Unauthorized’ Force On 16 Yr Old Girl

New Orleans, LA – On September 23, 2014, Officer Saulny was caught in a situation that involved a 16-year-old female. According to police, while Saulny was being processed, he told his supervisor that he had to use force when processing the girl. The supervisor obtained video surveillance of the altercation and notified the Public Integrity Bureau Force Investigation Team (FIT) to investigate further.

The next day the PIB FIT launched the investigation and reviewed the surveillance video. As a result, they immediately put Saulny on an emergency suspension without pay for the rest of the investigation.

The PIB decided that the surveillance video clearly showed Saulny using excessive force as well as vulgarity.

NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison commented saying, “There is no place in the department for officers who choose to mistreat members of the public and lie about their behavior, based on the results of the PIB investigation, we made the decision to dismiss the officer immediately.”

The IPM monitored the investigation and the disciplinary hearing and is in support of the final decision.

Saulny is a 25-year veteran of the NOPD. He was most recently assigned to the NOPD Juvenile Bureau

Tennessee Police Chief Fired Again Less Than Two Months After Being Reinstated

Lebanon police chief Scott Bowen.

LEBANON, Tenn. – Lebanon police chief Scott Bowen was fired from his job as police chief less than two months after being reinstated to his position by Chancellor C.K. Smith.

Bowen was called to a pre-action disciplinary hearing with Lebanon Mayor Bernie Ash on Jan. 11. Ash gave Bowen a list of disciplinary problems the city found against him. According to Bowen’s lawyer, Keith Williams, the list of reasons was the same as the one that was given in court three years ago when Bowen was originally fired. Williams also called the disciplinary hearing “scripted.”

Bowen said when he was asked to make a statement on the reasons, he simply handed Ash the transcript of testimony he originally gave in court.

“It’s the same exact reasons,” said Bowen. “My memory from three years ago is better than my memory now.”

According to Lebanon Human Resources Director Sylvia Reichle, attorneys advised Ash that while the chancery court ruling said the prior disciplinary process was flawed, the ruling didn’t say the reasons for his termination were not valid. Reichle said Ash reviewed the evidence and determined there was cause for concern.

“Mayor Ash reviewed each of the items indicated under Notice of Charges,” said Reichle. “He looked at each and every charge and reviewed the evidence submitted regarding these serious policy violations, Tennessee State Law violation and violation of Federal EEOC regulations. Additionally, Mayor Ash reviewed the transcripts provided in the hearing. Following the review and consideration of the evidence, it is Mayor Ash’s determination that each charge is credible, the policy and law violations occurred and each violation warrants termination. Therefore, the city has terminated Scott Bowen’s employment effective immediately. The city’s insurance company is pursuing an appeal of the Chancery Court ruling.”

Williams said that they would continue fighting the city over what he says was wrongful termination.

WATCH: Metro Atlanta Police Officer Fired After Inappropriate Behavior During Traffic Stop

SOCIAL CIRCLE, GA – A metro Atlanta police officer is out of a job after he allegedly yelled profanities at a teen, then urged the teen to fight him during a traffic stop.

The incident happened in Social Circle on Wednesday, November 23rd. Officer James Sanders was fired this past Thursday after chief Tyrone Oliver received an anonymous tip.

Oliver says Sanders pulled the teens over after one of them yelled a vulgar term while he was working another traffic stop.

The video shows Sanders asking the 17 year old who yelled the term to get out of the car.

“Get out the jeep. What’d you have to say?” ‘Nothing,’ the teen said. “Tell me one more time and you’re going to jail son,” Sanders said.

Sanders then tells the kid to fight him.

“You wanna f**k the police?” “No sir I don’t,” the boy said. “Well I am right here brother,” Sanders said tapping the teen’s shoulder.

The encounter lasted about eight and a half minutes.

“If I go God damn jerking everybody out of that jeep and find marijuana, you think I’m going to take everybody to jail?” Sanders can be heard saying.

Oliver says Sanders had no legal reason to pull the car over. He also searched the vehicle without a warrant.

“It was completely uncalled for, unprovoked and it will not be tolerated here,” Oliver told CBS46 reporter Natalie Rubino.

Another officer who was called for back up handled the situation differently, talking calmly to the teens.

“What you did is not breaking law. It’s freedom of speech. Still just calling it out while we’re trying to do our job…” the officer said.

For Oliver the decision to fire Sanders was difficult but he says any type of disrespectful behavior towards the people they serve is unacceptable.

“We’re held to a higher standard and we have to conduct ourselves as such. We have to have tough skin and let things roll of our back,” Oliver said.

Sanders is an eight year veteran of the Social Circle Police Department. He’s been written up before including an 2014 incident where he threatened to blow up a local school over an argument about getting paid for off duty security. Oliver said regardless of whether or not Sanders was written up in the past, his decision to fire him would stay the same.

Baseball agent fired over allegations he secretly filmed clients in shower

Accusations against the agent emerged after a baseball player who prefers to remain anonymous reportedly found a hidden camera in the bathroom while using the shower in Wood’s home.

CSE Talent, which represents pro golfers, baseball players, coaches, and sports broadcasting personalities, appointed Wood director of its baseball division last April.

On Wednesday, the company released a statement announcing its decision to part ways with the agent who “didn’t uphold” the agency’s “moral and ethical standards.”

“For over 32 years, CSE Talent has prided itself on our moral and ethical standards and have built a solid reputation within the industry,” the company’s president, Danny Martoe, said.

“We take pride in working with people who represent these values. It’s unfortunate that CSE Talent aligned itself with someone who didn’t uphold these same standards and therefore we chose to terminate with cause Wood’s employment.”

Following the scandal, some players have reportedly already terminated their cooperation with CSE Talent and have hired new agencies to represent their interests.

The Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPLA) has suspended Wood, prohibiting him from representing any players while an investigation into the hidden camera allegations is held.

The list of Wood’s clients included Jake Odorizzi of the Tampa Bay Rays, David Phelps of the Seattle Mariners, Andrew Benintendi of the Red Sox, and many other top players who may have visited Wood’s home during the offseason.

Wood denies the allegations and has hit out at those who, in his view, “have chosen to spread such irresponsible and harmful rumors,” according to Jeff Passan, an MLB columnist who says he received a message from the agent.

Over-the-top environmental activism against coal-fired power plants leaves New Englanders FREEZING as grid teeters on failure

Image: Over-the-top environmental activism against coal-fired power plants leaves New Englanders FREEZING as grid teeters on failure

(Natural News)
No one in their right mind wants to breathe dirty air or leave our country and our earth worse off for the next generation and beyond. That includes “conservatives” and “capitalists” who are always accused by the Left as wanting to destroy the planet.

That said, there has to be a better balance between sustainable environmental policies and meeting the needs of a modern society. Yet thanks to record-cold temperatures this winter, we’re seeing that in parts of the country dominated by Left-wing politics, decisions involving policy and infrastructure have lacked a rationality factor.

For years, progressive environmentalism forced on power companies throughout New England have resulted in reductions in the number of coal-fired power plants. There has been so much loss of capacity that today, as temperatures plunge and demand for power rises, operators are struggling to meet the needs of the people. And the mass failure of the electric grid during this record cold will mean people will freeze to death.

“Officials at ISO-New England, operators of the region’s power grid, said energy demands during the recent arctic weather have placed major pressures on energy generators, forcing power companies to rely more on coal and oil to produce electricity,” the Hartford Courant reported.

The paper noted further that despite the fact that energy industry officials have, for years, been warning that the region upgrade its energy production capacity by, at the very least, building new natural gas pipelines, those proposals have “been blocked or withdrawn,” primarily due to opposition from environmental groups.

But the excessive liberalism isn’t limited to environmental groups. State and federal regulations have played their part as well, including unrealistic curbs on emissions and the implementation of rules that make affordable power production impossible.

Now, these regulations and dearth of power infrastructure are set to pose big problems for local residents.

“Environmental limitation on how much, or whether, some oil-fired power plants will be able to generate electricity could become a concern this week and for the remainder of the winter,” said ISO-New England spokeswoman Marcia Blomberg in an email to Boston station WCVB.

This is a dilemma some time in the making.

Four years ago, writing in Scientific American, Lindsey Konkel — nothing that coal-fired plants were “virtually extinct” at that time. Konkel further explained how “Stringent environmental regulations and a steep drop in the cost of natural gas” led regional officials throughout New England to move away from coal in deference to natural gas. (Related: UN official actually ADMITS that ‘global warming’ is a scam designed to ‘change world’s economic model.’)

“In 2000, coal accounted for roughly 18 percent of the region’s electricity generation while natural gas accounted for about 15 percent,” she wrote. “In 2012, just 3 percent of New England’s electricity was generated by coal, while 52 percent came from natural gas.”

Boosting reliance on natural gas is not in and of itself a bad thing, but decreasing reliance on coal is. Not only that, but liberals have also complained about the use of natural gas as well.

“Natural gas is killing coal plants, but more natural gas infrastructure may be adverse to health and climate in the long run,” Konkel quoted N. Jonathan Peres, an attorney for the Boston-based Conservation Law Foundation.

As such, that’s why multiple pipeline projects have been killed off in recent years, including one that “would have expanded an existing New England pipeline and was expected to save customers $1 billion a year,” The Daily Caller noted.

In other words, there is no middle ground and no rationality among Alt-Left environmental activists and politicians. They don’t want gas or coal, but they don’t want to freeze to death, either.

And yet, many of them may if the weather remains as cold as it’s been.

Then again, the same failing power infrastructure throughout New England will be taxed again when the heat and humidity of summer return.
