Cop Rapes Fellow Cop’s 13-Year-Old Daughter—Not Fired, Still Getting Paid

daughterdaughter

Yet another sex crime involving police officers has rocked the Los Angeles Police Department, and this time an officer was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a fellow officer’s 13-year-old daughter.

The assault took place on April 4 following a night out of drinking, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times. Kenneth Louis Collard, 51, was encouraged by his co-worker and fellow police officer to stay the night at said officer’s home rather than drive home drunk. Collard obliged, but some time during the night made his way into the daughter’s bedroom and reportedly assaulted the young child.

The girl then told her family she had been assaulted by Collard. A forensic evaluation was conducted and the career LAPD officer was officially charged with three counts of committing a lewd act upon a child and one count of sexual penetration by a foreign object.

He was allowed to post $400,000 bail and is now awaiting trial. In a statement, the Los Angeles Police Protective League’s board of directors said the police officer’s union was “sickened by the repugnant” allegations.

If they are true he should be prosecuted as forcefully as possible,” the board said. “As police officers, we are sworn to protect the innocent, not to exploit them. There is absolutely no room in law enforcement or society for anyone who commits such acts, especially on a child.

Saying the LAPD is “aware of the arrest” the department issued the following statement, which reads in part:

If the accusations are true, this officer will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and will face severe repercussions in regards to his employment as well.

Speaking of his employment, Collard is still receiving his full salary as he was not fired. Instead, he has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. He faces decades behind bars if convicted on all counts.

Collard’s story is just the latest case in a long series of sex crimes involving LAPD officers. One of the most high-profile cases of which involved an officer who was having sex with a teenaged member of the youth organization known as the Explorers program. Officer Robert Cain, 31, was arrested last year after he was caught having an on-going sexual relationship with one of the female cadets. The predatory sexual relationship was discovered after the girl was arrested for her part in the theft of LAPD vehicles and equipment. She and other cadets went on a joy ride in squad cars, wrecking some, and pulling citizens over in traffic stops, even though none of the cadets were old enough to be officers yet.

We at The Free Thought Project have often reported on police officers using their badges to seduce women and even children. But this is the first time we can recall a story where an officer crossed the thin blue line to allegedly rape another officer’s child. While stories we’ve reported in the past, sadly, ended with police officers receiving a slap on the wrist, and some sex-offending pedophile police officers getting probation instead of prison time, the results of this case will be notable.

This time the victim is the daughter of a police officer. Expect the book to be thrown at Collard. If that happens, it is a further indication that police officers expect justice when it happens to one of their own but are perfectly content with a rapist cop getting probation if the victim is not connected with law enforcement.

Climate skeptic professor Peter Ridd was fired for his views by James Cook University

Just an update of my battle

On 2 May, 2018, I received a letter from James Cook University (JCU) terminating my employment. JCU have sacked me because I dared to fight the university and speak the truth about science and the Great Barrier Reef.

Shortly after I went public with the GoFundMe campaign to which you donated in February the university presented me with a further set of misconduct allegations, which alleged that I acted inappropriately by talking about the case and have now ended my employment.

I will be fighting their employment termination, alongside the original 25 charges behind JCU’s ‘final censure’ last year.

As a consequence of the sacking, and the new misconduct allegations, my legal costs have substantially increased. JCU appears to be willing to spend their near unlimited legal resources fighting me. In the name of honesty and truth in science, we must fight back. We have an excellent legal team and are confident that we can win the legal case.

I feel extremely indebted to all those who have given so generously. I was blown away by the number of people who supported me, and I had hoped that more funding would not be necessary. Sadly, however circumstances have changed.

I have contributed another $15000 of my own money, in addition to the $24000k I have already spent. However, based on the growing complexity of the case, we will need to raise an additional $159000. It is a bit frightening, but we have reopened the GoFundMe site to receive more donations.

You have already contributed generously so all I ask of you is to help spread the word to expand the number of people who are helping.

I know there were many who were unable to donate the first time – including my own Mum – due to the speed we reached the original target of $95K.

For additional background on all the new allegations from JCU, I have uploaded all the documentation so that you can judge JCU’s allegations for yourself if you wish.https://platogbr.wordpress.com/fired-details/

In summary, JCU (1) objects to my criticism of the earlier allegations; (2) criticised my involvement with the Institute of Public Affairs; and (3) objects to me not remaining silent. The facts of the matter are simple: (1) the earlier allegations were an unreasonable infringement on my academic freedom, I was well within my rights to criticise JCU; (2) I have never been paid by the IPA, other than some initial support for my legal case and reimbursement for flights and hotels related to speaking arrangements which is normal academic practice; and (3) I am well within my rights, as stated by my employment agreement, to speak publicly about disciplinary proceedings.

Thanks, Peter

Cop Fired After Video Showed He Lied to Protect His Partner Who Tasered Teen on ATV, Killing Him

ATVATV

Detroit – A police officer has been fired after he was caught lying on a report about an encounter in which he was driving his patrol car, and his partner launched a Taser out of the car’s window, targeting a teenage boy on an ATV, which resulted in the boy’s tragic death.

Damon Grimes was just 15 years old when he was killed last year after Michigan State Trooper Mark Bessner deployed his taser, striking Grimes while he was riding his ATV. The shock sent the boy careening into a parked truck, and he died. Bessner is awaiting trial for murder and now, reports claim that his partner was fired for falsifying the police report of the incident.

Trooper Ethan Berger was fired following the teen’s tasing death because he lied on his police report. The details of the internal investigation were made public this week after the Detroit Free Press filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the documents. According to the Michigan State Police Department’s own Internal Affairs investigation, Berger not only knew about the Taser being deployed by his partner riding, who was shotgun in the patrol car, but he also covered it all up. Following the discovery and video evidence of the alleged murder, Berger was fired.

According to the IA report, dated March 19, the department directly accused the officer, saying:

You knew the other trooper committed criminal offenses for which he was later charged…You drafted a false police report with the intent of assisting the other trooper with avoiding discovery, arrest, trial, or punishment after the crime occurred.

The scathing rebuke of the officer continued:

Your report intentionally contained significant deviations from the truth and what is shown on the videos, and your report was a clear attempt to justify your and the other trooper’s actions during the pursuit.

Grimes’s death was shocking, to say the least. Berger and Bessner were pursuing Grimes, who was quite possibly unaware they were following him. As the cruiser approached the ATV, Bessner reached through the passenger side window where he was riding, fired his Taser, and immobilized the teen who then slammed into the back of a parked pickup truck and died. The IA report also rebuked Berger for not rendering first aid to Grimes, while the teenager lay dying on the street.

Berger could—and probably should—still be charged as an accomplice in Grimes’s murder but District Attorney Kym Worthy has declined to charge him, citing insufficient evidence.

Also disciplined was an MSP supervisor who failed to include pertinent details in his report following the accident. Sergeant Jacob Liss failed to inform his superiors that Grimes had been tased from a moving police vehicle. The office of Internal Affairs for MSP rebuked Liss for failing to mention the taser in email correspondence with command officers shortly after the murder. The report claimed:

Both emails stated troopers were pursuing the ATV and it appeared the driver attempted to drive off the road onto the sidewalk, lost control, and crashed into the rear-end of a pickup truck…Neither email contained any information about a Taser deployment.

Not only was Liss complicit in hiding details of the tasing from his superiors, in text messages with MSP Det. Sgt. Todd Poppema, it is clear that Liss meant to keep quiet the knowledge that Bessner tased the teenager from a moving squad car while Grimes was riding his ATV. Poppema was informed in a phone call from a member of the Grimes family that a taser had been used.

In an attempt to assure the family member that the teen was not tased, Poppema reached out to Liss in a text message. He asked Liss to, “check (everyone’s) Taser from the chase today? Maybe have them downloaded to show no use…Family is claiming he was Tasered.”

Liss responded, “Yes. I will take care of it.”

Berger is still drawing his salary as his firing is being appealed and is currently in the arbitration process. Representing Berger is the Michigan State Police Troopers Association.

In a grievance filed on behalf of Berger, the trooper claimed the punishment was not fair and wrote, “The proposed discipline should be set aside or significantly reduced.”

Bessner is scheduled to be tried for the 15-year-old’s murder this summer. Berger has been fired, and Liss has been reprimanded, but nothing can bring back the teenager who was simply going on a joyride through town. We at The Free Thought Project will keep you up to date with any developments in the officer’s trial.

Grimes’s case serves to illustrate the long-held belief by critics of law enforcement that not only will police kill unarmed individuals, but they will do their best to cover up evidence of their culpability.

28 Israeli jets fired about 60 rockets in overnight strikes on Syria

Some 28 Israeli aircraft fired around 60 air-to-surface rockets in a massive overnight strike in Syria, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. Syrian air-defense systems managed to intercept more than half of the missiles.

A total of 70 projectiles, including 60 air-to-surface rockets and more than 10 surface-to-surface missiles, hit Iranian military targets and Syrian air-defense systems near Damascus and in the south of the country on Thursday morning, the Russian military said in a statement.

“28 Israeli F-15 and F-16 planes were involved in the attack,” the ministry said. “Syrian air-defense systems shot down more than half of the rockets as they repelled the Israeli attack.”

Israeli forces bombed the Syrian territory for two hours between 1:45am and 3:45am local time on Thursday. The attack was carried out under the pretext of allegations that Iranian forces had earlier hit Israeli targets in the Golan Heights.

The damage inflicted on Iranian military and Syrian civilian infrastructure by the airstrikes is being evaluated.

Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that all its aircraft had safely returned after one of its most extensive attacks in years. Tel-Aviv claims that it was carried out in retaliation to 20 rockets launched at Israeli targets in the Golan Heights by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corp’s Quds Force.

“Four of them were intercepted by the Iron Dome and the rest landed on Syrian territory,” the IDF said, according to Ynet, adding that the incident had resulted in no damage or casualties.

The allegations were denied by a member of the Iranian parliament’s commission, Abolfazl Hassan Beigi, who accused Israel of “lying,” as Iran has “no military presence” or bases in Syria, Sputnik reports.

The Pentagon confirmed Thursday that Chinese nationals fired lasers near a military base in east Africa against U.S. military aircraft in the region, injuring several pilots.

Pentagon Press Secretary Dana White said the U.S. government made diplomatic protests to the Chinese government over several recent incidents of laser firings near China’s first overseas military base at Djibouti.

“These are very serious incidents. There have been two minor injuries. This activity poses a threat to our airmen,” White told reporters.

Cop Fired After Video Shows Him Kick Handcuffed Man’s Head Like a Soccer Ball

soccersoccer

Miami, FL – A police officer was relieved of duty on Thursday, hours after a disturbing video was posted on Facebook that showed him running up to a man who was handcuffed and restrained on the ground, and kicking his head like a soccer ball for no apparent reason.

The video was posted by Facebook user Lisa Harrell, and it showed a man lying on the grass in the yard outside of a house with his hands behind his back. A police officer was standing a few feet away, and he pulled out a pair of handcuffs from his belt and skipped over to the man who was already in full surrender position. The officer locked the man’s hands in the handcuffs, and the man did not appear to resist arrest in any way.

As the first officer finished putting on the handcuffs, a second officer came running up and he forcefully and intentionally kicked the man’s head as if it was a soccer ball, all while the man lay on the ground with his hands restrained, an officer sitting on his back, and no possible way to pose a threat to the officer who assaulted him, or to defend himself.

The officer who kicked the man then turned around, knelt down, and slammed the man’s head into the ground, assaulting him a second time as three other officers approached the scene, and the video ended.

You didn’t have to do all that, buddy. You tripping,” Harrell remarked after she recorded the encounter. In her Facebook post, she noted that the suspect “was down already” and that the officer “didn’t have to kick him.”

He was already in handcuffs, he was not resisting or anything,” Harrell told Local 10 News. “He was already in handcuffs and the other one came running out of nowhere and kicked him like a football and basically jumped on him.”

Harrell also said she hopes that by drawing attention to this incident, it teaches the officer a lesson, and deters police departments from hiring him in the future.

“I hope nobody else hires him because you can’t do stuff like that. That is against your job duties,” Harrell said. “You are not here to hurt people, you are here to protect people. If he did something wrong, I understand. He is a criminal he should go to jail. I understand. But you don’t have to hurt him.”

Police identified the handcuffed man on the ground as David Suazo, and the officer who kicked him as Mario Figuerroa. While police claimed that officers began chasing Suazo because they believed he was driving a stolen car, and they say he crashed it into a nearby wall and took off running, the video of the encounter shows a man surrendering to police and showing no signs that he was going to get up and run.

What’s more, none of the other police officers mentioned the kick in the police report. The report only noted that “while placing the defendant into the back of the police vehicle, the defendant started to tense up his body to avoid being placed in the vehicle.” What measures the officers took to get him inside the vehicle weren’t in the report either.

Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina confirmed that Officer Figuerroa, who has been with the department for two years, has been relieved of duty.

“The city of Miami Police Department received a video on an incident involving one of my officers,” Colina said. “The video depicts a clear violation of policy. The officer has been relieved of duty and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office has been contacted.”

Suazo’s sister, Maritza Valerio, told CBS Miami that she was shocked to see the video on Facebook because police told the family that nothing happened during the arrest.

“I go home and saw it on Facebook and God, there’s the video of what the sergeant on the scene alleged didn’t happen, which is my brother being on the ground already handcuffed and being kicked in the face by another officer,” Valerio said.

It remains to be seen whether Figuerroa will face charges for his actions, but the fact that the department was quick to relieve him of duty following the release of the footage is a good start.

If you would like to contact the Miami-Dade Police Department to express your opinion on the chief’s response to the excessive force used by Officer Figuerroa, you can call
(305) 476-5423, or visit the department’s Facebook page.

Three Cops Busted Having Sex With Opioid Thief In City Hall—Not Arrested, Not Even Fired

CITY HALLCITY HALL

Three police officers were suspended without pay after their department learned that they were having sex while on city property—serving as a reminder that if the average citizens were caught having sex in city hall, they would have been arrested for lewd behavior while in public. But because police have one standard for themselves and another for the general public, the officers were given only a few days off without pay.

Investigators in Billings, Montana, were not looking to find their officers engaged in sex on city property, but while investigating the theft of drugs from the department’s evidence storage facility by a former employee, Rawlyn Strizich, the sex acts were discovered, presumably by video camera footage. The three male officers were seen having sex with Strizich who was fired in February for stealing oxycodone from the evidence storage facility.

All three of the veteran male officers admitted to having sex with Strizich. Police chief Rich St. John confirmed with KTVQ the suspensions did, in fact, take place. According to KTVQ:

St. John said two of the officers were suspended for two weeks without pay because they had sex with Strizich while on duty and on city property — in the basement of City Hall, which is used for records storage. The third officer was suspended without pay for one week because he was off duty but on city property at the time. St. John said that officer had sexual relations with Strizich in a police patrol car.

“We’re talking really good officers who made a bad decision — a really, really bad decision,” St. John said. The entire incident has critics scratching their heads and wondering if they too had been caught at city hall having sex, would they have gotten a citation and a court date or such a generous pass like St. John gave the three male officers?

Apparently, the fact that the Billings PD is short-handed was enough of a reason to keep the men on the police force. Surprisingly, the police chief does not even know if they have actually served their suspensions or not, leaving some to wonder if they were even suspended at all.

St. John said, he gave the commanders who supervise the officers discretion on when to allow the suspensions to be served, but the suspensions have to be served all at once, not one or two days at a time. St. John said he ordered the suspensions three weeks ago, adding, “I don’t know if they served their time yet.”

If the media had not been alerted to the incident, it is unclear if anything would have been done to the officers who still remain unidentified. Several news agencies know their identities but refuse to report their names.

“I look at the work that they have done, whether they’re salvageable, the time that’s elapsed with this thing,” St. John told the Billings Gazette. “We have a lot of money invested in these people, and if they’re salvageable, we want to do that. I also want them to learn that this isn’t acceptable behavior and send a message to the rest of the department that this is unacceptable.”

This week KTVQ reported that the City of Billings is planning to release the names of the three officers. The resulting shame will certainly rock the lives of the officers, their families, and the community.

Sadly, this story is not the first story published by The Free Thought Project detailing sexual, possibly criminal, actions by officers while on duty. Most often, the officers are suspended, with or without pay, and allowed to remain on the police force despite being guilty of the very thing for which the average citizen would be arrested.

Cop Who Was Fired For Not Writing Enough Tickets Finally Speaks Out On Video

A police officer in Alpharetta, Georgia, claims he was fired for not issuing enough traffic tickets to motorists in the area.

Officer Daniel Capps was on the force for nine years and was ultimately terminated because he declined to issue a traffic ticket to a driver after he bumped into another car. According to a department memo directed at officers, if there is an accident with any “damage that needs to be fixed with more than a little wax and elbow grease, you need to write the citation” — even if there are no injuries and the damage is minor.

As long as officers are called to the scene of a car accident, this rule is supposed to apply. But Capps decided to let the motorist who caused the minor incident off with a warning.

“Someone’s already needing to pay the insurance. It’s a hassle. There’s no need to have a ticket on top of that,” he told local outlet CBS 46, adding that he doesn’t believe it’s a police officer’s job to make people’s lives miserable.

According to Charles Westover, who rear-ended the driver in front of him at a slow speed, “To have a blanket policy that applies to all kinds of incidents doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.”

He said that when Capps arrived at the scene, he was “extremely courteous, very professional, acknowledging it was a minor fender bender and there was no need to issue a ticket.

According to Capps’ police report, no one was injured, and only the bumpers of the cars were damaged. The person whose car was hit did not object to Capps’ decision not to write a citation.

“I was pretty appalled, I am appalled. That doesn’t seem right to put that kind of mark on this gentleman’s life,” Westover said.

CBS 46 attempted to obtain comment from Police Chief John Robison, but he did not reply. Capps, who says he issued a lot of warnings as an officer, expanded on his views, suggesting the policy is the work of a single city supervisor:

YOU CAN VIEW THE VIDEO BY CLICKING BELOW

KPTV – FOX 12

He’s just one of those guys who likes writing tickets. He just gets off on, in their words, causing other people pain. I wasn’t like that. I gave a lot of warnings. If someone needed a ticket, they would get one. If they were courteous and understood what they did wrong, I wouldn’t write a citation. Same thing with accidents.”

In a statement, assistant city manager James Drinkard told CBS 46 the traffic incident was only the latest example of Capps’ insubordination:

“While the decision to terminate employment was based, in part, on the former employee’s decision to ignore lawful departmental policy and refuse to properly cite at-fault drivers who caused traffic crashes that resulted in property damage, that behavior was part of a pattern of performance and poor decision making that was simply not acceptable. The City of Alpharetta makes no apology for holding our personnel responsible for properly carrying out their assigned duties, being stewards of the public trust, and advancing our mission to enhance the quality of life of our residents, businesses, and visitors.”

Some examples of Capps’ “poor decision making” include wearing earrings against dress code, stopping by his home to use the restroom instead of using public restrooms, leaving his gun attended at a police firing range, and declining to charge a juvenile for shoplifting after she was caught stealing from a Macy’s department store. He opted instead to hand the girl over to her parents.

Further, after being reprimanded for not issuing enough tickets back in january, he asked other officers if they had an issue with the strict ticketing policy. “According to official documents, the lieutenant considered it an attempt to undermine his authority and Capps was later suspended before eventually being fired,”CBS 46 reported.

In a country where law enforcement agents are given paid vacations for killing unarmed citizens, Capp’s ‘transgressions’ seem tame by comparison, though he is not the first police officer to be punished for attempting to be kind to the people they patrol.

Australian coal-fired power plant being recommissioned to mine blockchains

It will probably generate 22,000 pounds of CO2 every hour, but everybody needs their bitcoins!

It takes a lot of energy to “mine” bitcoins; as we noted earlier, computers have to run “proof of work algorithms.” Bitcoins alone are estimated to consume 32 terawatt-hours of electricity per year, about as much as all of Denmark uses. And there are other Blockchain operations that also suck a lot of power.

IOT groupIOT Group/Screen capture

So while the President of the United States couldn’t make coal great again, it appears that Bitcoin can. The IOT group, an Australian company that also makes a shopping app and a drone that takes flying selfies, has made a deal with Hunter Energy to re-open the mothballed Redbank coal-fired power plant in New South Wales, Australia. They claim that this will “provide direct access to power at cost and without the additional charges and costs associated with transmission, of power including; grid costs, poles and wires, electricity retailer margins to supply to the end user.”

Solar panelsPretty solar panels from Hunter Energy/Promo image

On its website, Hunter Energy shows lots of solar panels and claims that it “is developing a model at the heart the energy transition from coal, to a reduced emission environment whilst maintaining the system reliability needed.” They are even tossing biomass, waste wood products, into the fire. But call it what you will, it’s a coal fired power plant in the middle of the Hunter Valley coal mining region.

IOT Group executive director Sean Neylon told the Age:

The reasons why blockchain specialists are not in Australia is because power costs are too high, it’s not efficient. Power at wholesale cost would make blockchain related operations attractive in Australia.

Other Bitcoin miners have moved to places with cheap hydro power like Iceland or Manitoba, but Australia can’t seem to dig or burn enough coal, and is still investing in new mines. This poster is a bit old (Tony Abbott is no longer Prime Minister) but I do not believe that much else has changed.

And now it is on the coal-fired Bitcoin bandwagon. The Age says that “the blockchain centre could consume between 10 and 20 megawatts of electricity” which produces about 22,000 pounds of CO2 per hour. But hey, everybody needs their bitcoins!

Nurse Fired For Saying Stephon Clark Deserved To Die Raises $20,000 For Herself

A California nurse who was fired from her job after saying Stephon Clark deserved to be killed by police has raised over $20,000 from a GoFundMe campaign to pay her bills.

Faith Linthicum launched her self-promoting fundraiser over the weekend, writing: “I’m a United States Military veteran who served as a medic, and then fulfilled my dream taking care of people by becoming a nurse. I was recently fired from my job as a nurse at Kaiser Permanente for exercising my First Amendment right to free speech. I am a proud supporter of this great Country, the First Amendment, the rule of law, and law enforcement.”

Linthicum said that she’s “not a hateful or discriminatory person” and that she was fired from her hospital job “without any investigation, and without giving me an opportunity to explain or defend myself.”

“I believe Kaiser Permanente violated my First Amendment right to free speech in order to protect themselves from the wrath of these activists,” she claimed.

(GoFundMe)(GoFundMe)

Linthicum lost her job after she posted a comment on Facebook about the March 18 Sacramento police killing of Clark, 22, who was unarmed when two officers mistook his cellphone for a gun and shot him multiple times in his grandparents’ backyard.

Yeah but he was running from the police jumping over fences and breaking in peoples houses … why run??!!! He deserved it for being stupid,” Linthicum wrote on Facebook, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Sacramento exploded in protests after the killing, with a march for justice, a fund set up for Clark’s children, and a massive funeral celebrating his life.

Kaiser Permanente said Linthicum’s Facebook post about Clark’s death was a “serious matter” and confirmed she no longer worked for the company. “Kaiser Permanente does not tolerate hate or discrimination … We are deeply saddened by the events associated with Stephon Clark’s death, and will continue to do our part to make sure the community is healthy, safe and inclusive,” an executive told the Sacramento Bee in a statement.

Linthicum says money she raises in her GoFundMe will “pay rent, buy food for myself and my two dogs (French Bulldog & Great Dane), or make my car payments/insurance.”

An anonymous person on Tuesday created a GoFundMe page titled: “Faith Linthicum Fired – Deserved It.” It seeks to raise $25,000, with the proceeds going to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit specializing in civil rights  litigation and tracking of hate groups.

That fund, which by Wednesday had raised $1,000, features a statement that reads: “Please consider donating to a charity like the SPLC who fights hate instead of spreading it. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with this lady treating anyone because of her beliefs. If she doesn’t like the color of your skin, or anything else about you, will she let you die because you deserve it? She’s already raised her donation level from $3500 to  $25,000 because of the coverage from FOX News. Please help stop spreading the hate!”
