More Evidence of How the GOP Tax Cut Really Works

More Evidence of How the GOP Tax Cut Really Works

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Trump calling it a “middle class miracle” was a bald-faced lie.

It had nothing to do with cutting taxes for ordinary Americans – everything to do with enriching corporate predators and super-rich households more than already.

Corporate bosses are using their windfall for greater executive pay and bonuses, stock buybacks, increased dividends to shareholders, along with mergers and acquisitions – ordinary Americans stuck with empty promises.

Cisco Systems was the latest company to announce how its using its windfall. It’s returning $67 billion in offshore profits to America – most of it for for what’s explained above.

It’s stock buyback program was increased by $25 billion, the largest repurchase plan so far announced. Expect many more to follow.

Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF) executive director Frank Clemente issued a statement, saying:

“As predicted by many of us who opposed the massive Trump tax giveaway, Cisco is showing that the top priority of multinational corporations for their unprecedented tax cut is to shower shareholders with stock buybacks and higher dividends rather than distribute most of the benefits to workers who generate those profits.”

“This tax scam is hurting Americans another way, as shown by Cisco. ATF estimates that the Trump tax giveaway will save Cisco nearly $10 billion from what it should have paid in taxes on its $67 billion in offshore profits that it plans to bring home.”

“Cisco’s huge, unwarranted tax savings on its offshore cash, its failure to share any of it with its workers, and its big payoff to wealthy shareholders all show what’s wrong with the Trump-GOP tax scam that’s now law.”

“Instead of allowing multinational corporations to bring home their foreign profits at a steep discount, Congress should have demanded that they pay what they really owed on their offshore profits.”

“Then we’d have enough money for a real infrastructure program, among many other priorities of the American people.”

“Once again, wealthy CEOs and shareholders trump working people under this tax giveaway.”

Under former rules, corporate offshore profits returned home were nominally taxed at 35% – “less a dollar-for-dollar credit for foreign taxes paid,” ATF explained.

According to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, Cisco paid a 7.2% foreign tax rate from 2008-15.

Instead of paying what it owes under old rules, it’ll only pay $9 billion dollars on repatriated foreign profits.

The company and many others like it will benefit hugely at the expense of ordinary Americans – mostly harmed by GOP plans to more greatly erode social justice than already to help pay for the great tax cut heist.

America is a plutocracy, not a democracy, thirdworldized by offshoring once plentiful high-paying jobs, destroying much of the nation’s industrial base, leaving around 100 million working-age Americans without jobs.

Most with them have rotten ones, needing two or more to survive – while corporate predators and wealthy households never had things better.

The great GOP tax cut heist and Trump’s neoliberal war budget promise worse ahead for the nation’s most vulnerable.

James Mattis: US has no evidence Damascus used sarin gas in chemical attack

chemical attack syria

US Secretary of Defense James Mattis says investigators are looking into reports that the Syrian government used sarin gas in recent chemical attacks, but there is no evidence of the gas usage so far, US media reported on Friday.

“We do not have evidence,” Mattis told reporters according to Politico.

Mattis added it appears chlorine was used in the attacks, but “we are even more concerned about the possibility of sarin use.”

The US defense chief stressed that it would be a mistake for the Syrian government to launch any more chemical attacks on civilians.

On Thursday, the State Department said the United States was working with its partners on the ground in Syrian to investigate the reports of recent chemical weapons use in East Ghouta, Syria.

Media reports earlier this week suggested that the Trump administration believes Damascus is developing new chemical weapons.

The Pentagon’s statement comes amid the disputes around the report presented by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and by the OPCW-United Nations Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM). The analysis calls Syrian President Bashar Assad is responsible for the use of sarin in the Khan Sheikhoun incident, while the Daesh terrorist organization is responsible for the use of sulfur mustard in Umm Hawsh.

Syrian authorities have been repeatedly accused of using chemical weapons against civilians in the conflict that began in 2011, but Damascus has denied the allegations.

First Solid Evidence That Obama Was Directly Involved In Hillary Clinton’s Email Investigation

Most of us who have been watching the biggest political scandal in our country’s history unfold over the past year — the politicization of our federal law enforcement and intelligence institutions to spy on a rival presidential campaign — never for one second believed that the 44th president was completely in the dark.

To believe that President Obama didn’t know that the bogus “Trump dossier” bought and paid for by the Clinton campaign was an opposition research document and not an intelligence report is the epitome of misplaced trust.

To accept that, somehow, Obama’s top FBI and Justice Department officials could hide from him the fact that they misrepresented the dossier as an intelligence document so they could get a surveillance warrant from the FISA court to spy on a rival political campaign is akin to accepting unicorns, Middle Earth, and Arizona coastline as real things.

But until now there hasn’t been any direct evidence to prove that Obama was in on that.

Until now.

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., head of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, just received a new batch of text messages exchanged between anti-Trump FBI counterterrorism agent Peter Strzok and his mistress, FBI lawyer Lisa Page, proving that Obama was kept in the loop for the Hillary Clinton email investigation — making it incredulous to think that, somehow, he wasn’t aware of what was going on in the Trump spying scandal.

As reported by Fox News, among thousands of newly released text messages the network reviewed was one from Page to Strzok regarding talking points for then-FBI Director James Comey to give to Obama.

On Sept. 2, 2016, Page wrote to her lover about prepping Comey because “potus wants to know everything we’re doing.” ‘Potus’ is the acronym for “President of the United States.”

“According to a newly released Senate report, this text raises questions about Obama’s personal involvement in the Clinton email investigation,” Fox News reported further.

You think?

Johnson, along with majority staff from the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, is releasing the texts, along with a report titled, “The Clinton Email Scandal and the FBI’s Investigation of it.”

The newly uncovered text messages also reveal more regarding the timing of when FBI agents discovered “hundreds of thousands” of emails on disgraced U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner’s laptop, which eventually led to Comey’s now-infamous letter informing Congress about them in October 2016 just days before the election.

On Sept. 28, 2016, Strzok wrote to Page, “Got called up to Andy’s [McCabe] earlier.. hundreds of thousands of emails turned over by Weiner’s atty to sdny [Southern District of New York], includes a ton of material from spouse [Huma Abedin]. Sending team up tomorrow to review… this will never end.”

As to the question of whether Obama knew about the FBI’s misrepresentation of the bogus “Trump dossier” to get surveillance warrants so they could spy on former campaign official Carter Page (and anyone else in the campaign he would be talking to), it’s hard to imagine he didn’t.

First of all, the attorney general (in this case Loretta Lynch) has to sign off on all FBI requests for a warrant from the secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. But we also know that former FBI Director James Comey also signed off on three of them (McCabe signed one).

Also, as reported by The National Sentinel, FISA warrant applications are included in the President’s Daily Brief, a classified document that Obama often received electronically.

“As the Brookings Institute noted in a policy paper arguing for the Trump administration to renew legislation reauthorizing Section 702 of the FISA Act, which clarifies warrant requirements of the Act, information gathered via FISA warrants ‘sometimes known as PRISM, comprises a large part of the President’s Daily Brief,’” the website noted.

Revelations about Obama being in the loop for the Clinton email probe only reinforce the belief that he also stayed on top of the Trump investigation. The only question now is Obama’s level of involvement and whether he obstructed justice.

Pentagon Just Admitted There’s ‘No Evidence’ of Syrian Gas Attack, Threatens War Anyway

“We do not have evidence of it,” the US Defense Secretary told journalists, referring to the alleged use of sarin nerve agent by Syrian government forces. He said the only information the US has been able to obtain so far, comes from “other groups on the ground, NGOs, fighters on the ground” and just “people who claim it’s been used.”

“We are looking for evidence of it,” Mattis said. He then went on to accuse the Syrian government of a number of offenses and covert practices without substantiating his allegations with proof. He claimed that Syrian President Bashar Assad and his supporters “used denial and deceit to hide their outlaw actions,” but the Pentagon chief did not provide any specific details.

Mattis also said that it’s “clear” that Damascus used chlorine gas in the Syrian conflict, but as before, did not offer any evidence. Instead, he went on to say the US is now “even more concerned about the possibility of sarin use.” The US Defense Secretary also warned that the Syrian government “would be ill-advised to go back to violating the chemical [weapons] convention,” and spoke about the US “response.”

Mattis recalled the 2017 missile strike on Syria’s Shayrat Airbase ordered by President Donald Trump following an alleged chemical weapons attack on a rebel-held Syrian town last year. On April 4, 2017, up to 100 people were reportedly killed in an alleged sarin gas attack on the Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun in the Idlib governorate. Washington immediately blamed the attack on Damascus, saying the alleged weapon was dropped by a Syrian warplane. The US launched 59 Tomahawk missiles at the base in response.

The UN and Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM) then presented several reports on their findings concerning the use of chemical weapons in Syria, including the April attack. Russia repeatedly criticized the reports, saying it was riddled with discrepancies, speculation, and based on statements from questionable sources.

Mattis’ comments came just a day after the Trump administration accused the Syrian government of developing “new kinds of weapons” to deliver deadly chemicals to conceal their actions. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AP the US believes that it’s “highly likely” the Syrian government kept a hidden stockpile of chemical weapons. They said further that Trump has not ruled out military action to “deter” chemical attacks by Assad’s forces.

In late January, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, accused Moscow of being “ultimately” complicit in all alleged chemical attacks in Syria. “Whoever conducted the attacks, Russia ultimately bears responsibility for the victims in eastern Ghouta and countless other Syrians targeted with chemical weapons since Russia became involved in Syria,” Tillerson stated.

Russia dismissed the allegations as “a massive propaganda attack conducted with the purpose of slandering Russia.” Moscow called an emergency UN Security Council session to discuss new developments of the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

On January 23, just ahead of the 24-nation “International Partnership against Impunity for the Use of Chemical Weapons” meeting, news surfaced of a possible chlorine gas attack, in which more than 20 civilians were allegedly injured. The reports were produced by controversial pro-militant sources – the White Helmets and the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), and have not yet been independently verified.

Earlier, the Russian foreign ministry said Moscow has “consistently and persistently” drawn the international community’s attention to the incidents involving the use of chemical weapons in Syria, and has repeatedly called for an independent and impartial investigation into the matter.

The US, however, “shows no interest and often simply ‘ignores’ the objective facts” of terrorists using chemical weapons against “the [Syrian] army and civilian population,” the ministry said. It added that Washington prefers to pin all the blame on Damascus instead, often peddling information from dubious and unreliable sources.

The HPV Vaccine Debacle: Suppressing Inconvenient Evidence

Next Story

Following is Part Four in Vera Sharav’s seven-part exposé of the complex and widespread corruption that exists in the vaccination program, the deceptive practices by officials of “authoritative” international public health institutions and further evidence of the callous disregard for the plight of thousands of children and young adults who suffer irreversible harm.

The series is called “The Vaccine Program: Betrayal of Public Trust & Institutional Corruption” by Vera Sharav, for The World Mercury Project.  You can access the previous parts of the series here  here.

Japan Has Become Ground Zero Where The HPV Vaccine Debacle Is Unfolding In Public View

In Japan, young women and girls suffering from severe chronic generalized pain following vaccination with Merck’s Gardasil® or GSK’s Cervarix®, are speaking out and have organized. The issues are being debated at public hearings at which scientific presentations have been made by independent medical experts who validated the women’s suffering, with documented evidence of the severe nature of the pain related to the HPV vaccine. The opposing view, presented by scientists aligned with the vaccine establishment, disregarded the scientific plausibility of the evidence, and declared the pain was a “psychosomatic reaction.”[41]

Such public debates do not take place where vaccine stakeholders are in full control of vaccine safety information.

Following a public hearing (February 2014) at which scientific evidence was presented by independent scientists[42] the Japanese government, not only rescinded its recommendation that girls receive the HPV vaccine, Japan established guidelines and special clinics for evaluating and treating illnesses caused by the vaccine. It is a scenario that Merck, GSK, and vaccine stakeholders globally are extremely anxious to suppress.

The Merck-commissioned, CSIS report co-authored by Dr. Larson, paints a picture of an all-out war over media coverage – not over the high rate of serious adverse reactions. The authors resort to the usual tactic of discrediting vaccine-injured individuals; they dismissed the serious health effects suffered by girls and young women following vaccination, as trivial. The CSIS report presents the entire issue as an epidemic fueled by Internet rumors and “vaccine hesitators”.

“Over the last year, controversy within the Japanese medical and political arenas over the HPV vaccine has touched the public at large. Through social media and highly publicized events, anti-vaccine groups have gained control of the narrative surrounding the HPV vaccine.”

Global Collaborators in Action: Trash Honest Scientists to Suppress Inconvenient Evidence

The following case demonstrates how the global network of government/academic and industry stakeholders suppresses information about genuine scientific findings and when needed is engaged in corrupt practices to thwart the airing of information about vaccine safety issues. This case involves inconvenient scientific laboratory findings in post-mortem tissue samples, showing that the HPV vaccine was contaminated with foreign HPV DNA fragments. The case also involves evidence (contained in internal correspondence) of deceptive practices by officials of “authoritative” international public health institutions.

In January 2016,  pathologist Dr. Sin Hang Lee, MD, Director of Milford Medical Laboratory sent an open letter of complaint to the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Margaret Chan, in which he challenges the integrity of the GACVS Statement on the Continued Safety of HPV Vaccination (issued March 2014), and charges professional misconduct on the part of the following individuals (and suggests that others may have also been actively involved) in a scheme to deliberately mislead the Japanese Expert Inquiry on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine safety before, during and after the February 2014 public hearing in Tokyo”:

Dr. Lee challenged the integrity of the GACVS Statement on the Continued Safety of HPV Vaccination written by Dr. Pless, accusing him of deliberately misrepresenting his scientific findings in order to mislead non-scientific readers and those who set vaccination policies. Dr. Pless is accused of deliberately conflating two unrelated articles, dealing with two different chemicals, written by different authors “apparently to create a target to attack.”  Furthermore, Dr. Lee notes that the GACVS Statement relied on an unpublished 12-year old “Technical Report” written by an unofficial, unnamed “group of participants” (according to CDC’s disclaimer).

These are the facts:

In 2011, Dr. Lee found that every one of the 13 Gardasil samples that he examined contained HPV L1 gene DNA fragments. He also found that the HPV DNA fragments were not only bound to Merck’s proprietary aluminum adjuvant but also adopted a non-B conformation, thereby creating a new chemical compound of unknown toxicity. This non-B conformation, Dr. Lee believes, is responsible for the array of autoimmune illnesses experienced by children and young women following vaccination with Gardasil.

In 2012, Dr. Lee testified at a coroner’s inquest of the death of a New Zealand teenager, 6 months after receiving 3 Gardasil vaccine injections. He then published his case report in the open access journal, Advances in Bioscience and Biotechnology (2012).Dr. Lee was a presenter at the Tokyo hearing (2014) at which he disputed those who claimed the young women weren’t really suffering severe pain; they were having “psychosomatic reactions”. He stated:

“I do not believe psychosomatic reactions can cause sudden unexpected death in sleep, or inflammatory lesions in the brain as demonstrated by the MRI images and the brain biopsy histopathology with perivascular lymphocytes and macrophages and demyelination.”

Following the public hearing, GAVC issued a statement (March 12, 2014) aimed at discrediting Dr. Lee’s research by conflating his research with the research of other scientists who presented at the Tokyo hearing. This case should have been prominently reported in the medical journals and by the mass media, and the allegation should have been investigated. Mainstream publications have been silent; the case was reported only in alternative news outlets.[43]

HPV vaccine Controversy Erupts in the Streets of Columbia

In March 2015, hundreds of parents marched in streets of Bogota demanding treatment for their daughters who suffer from serious medical conditions following the second dose of Gardasil.

The marchers demanded that government health officials should:

  1. Provide adequate treatment for the 800 girls known who are affected to date;
  2. Suspend the use of HPV vaccines in Colombia until such time as the safety issues are resolved;
  3. Conduct adequate studies to determine the exact cause(s) of the serious adverse effects following the HPV vaccine;
  4. The parents challenged the Colombian National Institute of Health (INS) for its statement dismissing the connection between the vaccine and these diseases, which they, like the other collaborating institutions, attributed to psychosomatic hysteria.

The young girls and their parents, however, have the world’s foremost expert on autoimmune disorders on their side. Dr. Yehuda Shoenfeld shocked the audience of the III Colombian Symposium on Autoimmunity by stating he would not recommend HPV vaccines for his own daughter. When asked about the mass psychosomatic theory used to explain the newly emerged medical conditions shortly after HPV vaccinations, Dr. Shoenfeld replied:

Dr. Shoenfeld further stated that in Colombia hundreds of children are suffering from autoimmune disorders that emerged directly after HPV vaccination:

“If there is a case, or an avalanche of cases, this must be investigated in the proper way. To say it is something psychological or viral is not enough. You need scientists from different disciplines to analyze it.

We believe aluminum is a toxic substance for the brain. It accumulates, continues this for weeks and months. It’s like a Trojan Horse for the brain. Aluminum is a neurotoxin. Experimental research shows clearly that aluminum adjuvants have a potential for inducing serious immunological disorders in humans. In particular, aluminum adjuvants carry a risk for autoimmunity, inflammation of the brain and neurological long-term complications and therefore can have profound and widespread consequences for health.

In July 2016, a victims’ group filed a multi-plaintiff lawsuit in the district courts of Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka against the Japanese government and the two pharmaceutical companies that had produced these vaccines. Furthermore, in December of the same year, additional victims joined the multi-plaintiff lawsuit, bringing the total number of plaintiffs to 119 (Indian Journal of Medical Ethics, 2017).

Journal Editors With Financial Conflicts of Interest Have Enormous Power

Two studies confirm that: Most Editors of Top Medical Journals Receive Industry Payments (Retraction Watch, Nov. 2017)  The following case is an example of how tightly controlled publication channels have utterly corrupted science. The case demonstrates the great difficulty encountered by independent scientistwho have not sold their integrity to the highest bidder.

The study, Behavioral Abnormalities In Young Female Mice Following Administration Of Aluminum Adjuvants And The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine Gardasil,  was conducted in Israel. The senior author, Professor Yehuda Schoenfeld is an internationally recognized authority, who is considered to be the pillar in the field of autoimmunity. The focus of his research, however, threatens the vaccine industry by examining “the roles and mechanisms of action of different adjuvants which lead to autoimmune/inflammatory response.” Indeed, Dr. Shoenfeld identified a new syndrome ASIA (Autoimmune/Inflammatory Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants).

The HPV-mouse study was published in the journal Vaccine in January 2016. It was summarily withdrawn a month later following orders by the Editor-in-Chief, Gregory Poland.[44]

Dr. Poland’s direct conflicts of interest [45]  include those disclosed on the Mayo Clinic website: “Dr. Poland is the chairman of a safety evaluation committee for investigational vaccine trials being conducted by Merck Research Laboratories. Dr. Poland offers consultative advice on new vaccine development to Merck & Co., Inc.” [Dr. Robert Chen is an Associate Editor of Vaccine]

Before the publication withdrawal by the editor of Vaccine, the article had languished for 8 months at the Journal of Human Immunology and was then rejected by that journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Michael Racke. According to the American Academy of Neurology:

“Dr. Racke has received personal compensation for activities with EMD Serone, Novartis, Roche Diagnostics Corporation, Genentech, and Amarantus as a consultant.” [EMD Serono, Inc. is a subsidiary of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.]

How is it that this incestuous relationship did not raise loud cries of foul play?  Those rejections by editors who had deep vested financial interest in protecting vaccination rates, whose own financial interest was intertwined with vaccine manufacturers, elicited no protest from the scientific academic community.

Instead, these rejections were followed by vicious attacks against two of the scientists, by industry’s cyber hit-squads that are hired to attack independent scientists whose honest research contradicts vaccine orthodoxy/ That is viewed as a heresy inasmuch as it poses a financial threat.[46]  [Read Appendix 10]

The study was revised, again peer-reviewed, and published in the journal Immunological Research (Nature-Springer) (2017).[47]

The reported findings remained the same:

Vaccine adjuvants and vaccines may induce autoimmune and inflammatory manifestations in susceptible individuals. To date most human vaccine trials utilize aluminum (Al) adjuvants as placebos despite much evidence showing that Al in vaccine-relevant exposures can be toxic to humans and animals…It appears that Gardasil via its Al adjuvant and HPV antigens has the ability to trigger neuroinflammation and autoimmune reactions, further leading to behavioral changes…

In light of these findings, this study highlights the necessity of proceeding with caution with respect to further mass-immunization practices with a vaccine of yet unproven long-term clinical benefit in cervical cancer prevention”.

The basis for those findings was deemed to be scientifically sound by three sets of peer-reviewers, at three different journals.

The debate about the safety of the HPV vaccine was the subject of a documentary on TV2 Denmark, aired in March 2015.  The Danish Health and Medicines Authorities requested the European Medicines Agency to assess the whether a causal link exists between HPV-vaccines and Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and/ or Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).

The EMA published its report absolving the vaccine and denigrating the clinical findings by Louise Brinth, MD, PhD, and colleagues at the Frederiksberg Hospital whose retrospective case series of 39 patients, was published in the International Journal of Vaccines and Vaccination(2015)

Dr. Peter Gøtzsche, Director of the Nordic Cochrane Center, and author of Deadly Medicines and Organized Crime: How Big Pharma Has Corrupted Healthcare, took a leading role in the battle for truth about the HPV vaccine. In May 2016, Dr, Gøtzsche, and colleagues, sent a scathing letter of complaint to the European Medicines Agency (EMA), challenging that institution’s very legitimacy.

The letter cites EMA’s failure to comply with the EU Treaty and Charter mandating “openness [to] enable citizens to participate“; its failure to “live up to the professional and scientific standards…when evaluating the science and the data related to the safety of the HPV vaccines.”  And the letter cites the wide disparity between EMA’s secret, internal (256 p) HPV safety report and the official, misleading EMA report that disparages and misrepresents clinical evidence documenting serious health hazards  following the HPV vaccination:

“The official EMA report gives the impression of a unanimous rejection of the suspected harms. However, only seven months earlier, the EMA had resolved that “’ causal relationship between the dizziness and fatigue syndrome, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Gardasil [one of the HPV vaccines] can neither be confirmed nor denied’”. The EMA’s official 40-page report is misleading, as it gives the citizens the impression that there is nothing to worry about in relation to vaccine safety and that the experts consulted by the EMA agreed on this. However, the EMA’s  internal report reveals that several experts had the opinion that the vaccine might not be safe and called for further research, but there was nothing about this in the official report.”

The letter cites EMA’s opaque, secretive modus operandi; the mandated, life-long confidentiality agreements signed by EMA panelists and scientific experts; the EMA’s failure to evaluate the safety of vaccines in accordance with scientifically legitimate procedures; failure to identify the experts selected by the EMA; EMA’s reliance on vaccine manufacturers’ safety assessment of their own products, disregarding their “huge financial interests“; and the letter cites undisclosed financial conflicts of interest of EMA administrators and the conflicts of interest of panelists upon whom the EMA relies for safety assessments.

  • Dr. Gøtzsche affirms that: “All available material about suspected harms of a public health intervention directed towards healthy children should be accessible to anyone“.

It should be of concern to Dr. Gøtzsche and others who uphold the right of the public to honest safety assessments of medical interventions that CDC internal documents reveal that CDC officials purposely concealed data about suspected serious harms following the administration of multi-virus vaccines to infants in accordance with CDC childhood vaccination schedules.

WMP NOTE:  This concludes Part Four. Part Five of the seven-part series will be entitled:Internal CDC Email Correspondence Reveals a Corrupt Culture.

Previously published articles: Sharav’s Introduction to the full article,  L’affaire Wakefield: Shades of Dreyfus & BMJ’s Descent into Tabloid Science, outlines her well-researched and documented belief that, “Public health officials and the medical profession have abrogated their professional, public, and human responsibility, by failing to honestly examine the iatrogenic harm caused by expansive, indiscriminate, and increasingly aggressive vaccination policies.” Part One focuses on how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the vaccine industry control vaccine safety assessments, control the science of vaccines and control the scientific and mass channels of information about vaccines. In Part Two Ms. Sharav interprets the complex web of internal CDC documents, revealing how key CDC studies and CDC-commissioned studies were shaped by use of illegitimate methods. Part Three takes a closer look at the Brighton Collaboration and the extraordinary influence these stakeholders have in the business of vaccines and their power to control the science and research and manipulate reports to further their own interests.

On Friday, the US Senate Intelligence Committee released answers provided by Twitter, Facebook and Google in response to questions concerning Russia’s alleged meddlesome use of social media in the devious pursuit of uprooting American democracy.

The Senate’s questions included breathless demands that the tech giants explain why Edward Snowden and Julian Assange are “allowed” to use their services, as well as more mundane requests, such as asking Google if it can confirm crackpot rumors spread by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. However, it turns out the questions were considerably more sensational and accusatory than the tech giants’ responses, which in some cases even raised doubts about the narratives being promoted by the US government and media outlets.

Why does Twitter allow people like Snowden & Assange to have accounts? – curious senator

Tom Cotton, the Republican senator from Arkansas, had by far the most colorful questions for the three tech giants. During his thorough interrogation of Twitter, he asked whether the company’s terms of service prohibit “collaboration with Russian intelligence services to influence an election.” (Twitter reassured the good senator that exerting “artificial influence on an election [is] likely to violate any number of Twitter’s rules and policies.”)

But Cotton’s best moment came when he demanded “justification for allowing entities and individuals such as WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, and Edward Snowden to maintain Twitter accounts.”

Twitter very delicately informed Cotton that “we do not bar controversial figures from our platform or prohibit accounts from posting controversial content … So long as those accounts remain in compliance with our policies, we do not take action against their Tweets or suspend them from the platform.” Undeterred, Cotton asked these same questions to Facebook – and received very similar answers.

RT America bought ads that… ‘focused on’ Americans

In one of the more underwhelming revelations disclosed by the tech giants in the newly-released documents, Twitter reported that “of all of RT’s ad campaigns, 11 were targeted exclusively at English-language speakers, and several others—including all of @RT_America’s seven campaigns—used geographic targeting to focus on US users.”

Twitter also revealed that it had identified nine accounts as being “potentially linked to Russia that promoted election-related, English-language content.” Of these nine nefarious accounts “potentially linked” to Russia, “the most significant use of advertising was by @RT_com and @RT_America. Those two accounts collectively ran 44 different ad campaigns, accounting for nearly all of the relevant advertising we reviewed,” according to Twitter. Once again, Twitter forgot to mention that it pitched a proposal for RT to spend huge sums on advertising for the US presidential election – an offer which RT declined.

However, there is little doubt that before RT was banned from buying Twitter ads, RT America “targeted” Americans.

Facebook can’t trace ‘Russian disinformation campaign’

Senator Mark Warner of Virginia asked Facebook if it could confirm that it was “alerted” by Ukrainian activists and politicians about Russian trolls peddling disinformation on its platform. Unfortunately, Facebook’s response rained on Warner’s anti-Russia parade.

The social media giant explained that most of the “disinformation” reported by Ukrainians was nothing more than Russians calling Ukrainians “khokhol” (a common derogatory term). Facebook also said it received reports of Ukrainians calling Russians “moskal” (another mundane ethnic slur). In some cases, the slurs were deemed hate speech and removed, in accordance with the site’s Community Standards. Facebook was apparently unable to recall any other “Russian misinformation” reported by Ukrainian authorities.

Google questions ‘Ukrainian artillery hack’

In one of many Russia-gate Hail Marys lobbed by Tom Cotton, the Intelligence Committee pressed Google to comment on reports that Russia used malware implanted on Android devices to track Ukrainian artillery units, suggesting that “Russia is not only using your platforms to influence elections, but to gain an advantage on the front lines of a battlefield.”

The question backfired spectacularly, with Google responding: “We are aware of this report and we, although [sic] with others in the industry, have questioned its accuracy.”

The company cited, as one example, that the alleged malware at issue was never distributed through Google’s Play Store.

Scroll on, Russia’s not targeting your FB

Senator Kamala Harris was interested to learn about the types of targeting criteria – “such as demographic, behavioral, lookalike, or email matching” – allegedly used by Russia for its “information operations.” Again, Google’s response did not exactly launch a thousand ships.

“$4,700 of ads attributable to suspected state-sponsored Russian actors were not narrowly targeted to specific groups of users: for example, we found no evidence of targeting by geography (e.g. certain states) or by users’ inferred political preferences (e.g. right or left-leaning),” Google responded. The company added that it was “unaware of any inauthentic accounts linked to Russian information operations flagged by our users.”

Editor’s note: A subheading has been changed to more accurately reflect Tom Cotton’s question for Twitter.

For The First Time Ever, There Is Evidence That Mosquitoes Can Be Trained

By  Amanda Froelich Truth Theory

The next time you come face-to-face with a pesky mosquito, take aim. Even if you miss the annoying insect, there is a chance it will avoid you from that point on. This is because, according to a new study published in Current Biology, mosquitos are capable of associating near-death encounters with personal scents. As a result, they may avoid the humans that swat at them.

As National Geographic reports, this is the first time anyone has shown that mosquitos are capable of learning and remembering. Said neuroecologist Jeff Riffell of the University of Washington: “They’re essentially Pavlov’s mosquitoes.” With this statement, he refers to the famous experiment in which dogs were conditioned to salivate on cue.

Mosquitos are drawn to certain odors, including the scent of humans. For this study, Aedes aegypti mosquitoes were exposed to a 20-minute session of bite-disturbing vibrations. Reportedly, the intensity is similar to the reverberations that travel up an arm after a slap.

Scientists found that the mosquitos avoided the scent for more than 24 hours afterward. As Riffell and his team noted, this effect is as powerful as an application of an over-the-counter repellant.

The team tested this effect more than once. Again, the insects avoided the particular scent for approximately 24 hours. Then, they attempted to suck blood once again. “That learning ability makes them incredibly flexible,” Riffell said. “It means they can learn associations about who is more defensive and who isn’t, and if we can prevent that, they’ll never learn and can be swatted away way more effectively.”

This finding is important, as the Aedes aegypti mosquito is known for carrying yellow fever and transmitting diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and the Zika virus. NAs a result of the dopamine-learning discovery, scientists have new information to use when developing insecticides or mosquito repellants.

“Memories are an important thing, and it was completely out of the picture in mosquito research,” said Walter Leal, a chemical ecologist at the University of California Davis. “Now that we know that some compounds trigger this memory of avoidance, one could possibly use a formulation that not only includes an active repellent, like DEET, but also includes some compound that would trigger the memory of avoidance.” Leal added that it is “time to move on” from DEET-containing repellants, which are detrimental to human health.

‘Disturbing decision, no evidence’ – French skiing outlet on reports of more Russian Olympic bans

In an article titled “Shipulin et Ustiugov privés de JO” (Shipulin and Ustiugov excluded from the Olympic Games), journalist Mirko Hominal slammed the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Invitation Review Panel, which was granted the right to approve Russian athletes for the upcoming Winter Games, for its reported decision.

Following the IOC decision to ban Russia from February’s Games in South Korea, the Olympic governing body ruled that “clean” Russian athletes will be able to compete under a neutral flag, provided their status is confirmed by the IOC-appointed panel.

The ROC included 500 athletes in the Olympic application which was sent to the IOC last week. The Invitation Review Panel immediately excluded 111 members, who in their view failed to meet their requirements.

ROC vice-president Stanislav Pozdnyakov, who received the approved list on Monday, said the list does not include Olympic biathlon champion Anton Shipulin, world-title holder in cross country skiing Sergey Ustiugov, and six-time Olympic gold medalist in short track skating Viktor Ahn, despite their non-involvement in any doping cases.

“So in recent days a committee appointed by the IOC and led by a biased person banned athletes without any evidence, it is more than disturbing,” the French outlet said, reacting to the news.

The official reason for the athletes’ possible exclusion has not yet been announced, but Ski-nordique says the panel’s decision was driven by the fact that the athletes took part in the Sochi Games, where doping sample tampering allegedly took place, as well as the mentioning of their names in the McLaren report and Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory database.

The French outlet also stressed that all of their doping control tests carried out abroad by independent bodies were clean.

It also insists that the IOC and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) have a completely different approach towards doping cases involving athletes representing Western, presumably Anglo-Saxon, countries. While punishing Russia for doping violations which have not been proved, the bodies give dispensations to Western athletes allowing them to officially use doping under WADA’s Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) program, it noted.

Hominal stressed that Shipulin and Ustiugov, who have never tested positive for banned substances, could be forced to watch the Olympics on TV, while other athletes will have a better chance of winning medals in PyeongChang in their absence. He also recalls the story of Norwegian skier Martin Sundby, whose doping test taken in the summer of 2016 revealed elevated levels of ventolline, a medicine used to ease asthma symptoms.

Further exploration showed that the athlete had exceeded the maximum allowed use of the drug by 15 times.

“But he is Norwegian, and not Russian, so we give him a two-month suspension from July and August, nice for a doper, and of course nobody has ever thought of banning him from the 2018 Olympics,” Hominal said.

Following the news regarding the possible bans of leading Russian athletes, the ROC said it will send an official letter to the IOC to demand an explanation for their controversial decision.

“In accordance with the Executive Board’s decision, the IOC has an exclusive right to invite or not invite particular athletes [to the Olympics]. At the same time the reasons for [refusing invitations] must be explicitly explained to the athletes,” ROC vice-president Pozdnyakov said on Tuesday.

“Ahn, Ustiugov and Shipulin were not mentioned in the Oswald Commission report, neither have they been involved in any doping cases. They underwent multiple doping tests during their careers, proving that they are clean athletes. Nevertheless, their names are currently missing from the list of potential participants in the games,” he added.
