One of the busiest airports in Germany, Hamburg Airport, was closed due to a “power failure incident,” the transport hub said in a statement. The power outage began around 10am local time and staff are currently working to repair the systems. Passengers are asked to contact their airlines for information on flights.
The Russian consulate in Seattle has been closed by order of the US authorities. The staff has decided not to take down the Russian flag, though, leaving it for the Americans to deal with.
Having wrapped up their last day of work on Friday, the Seattle consulate staff gathered outside their office, rented in a 25-story office building, took a picture together, then removed the plaque with the consulate’s name from the wall, RIA reports. They now have until April 2 to remove all papers and other items, as that is the date that access to the premises will be shut off.
The papers will be taken to the Consulate General, consul Valery Timashov’s residence, which, unlike the office, is Russian property. From there, they will be spread out to other diplomatic missions across the US. The residence will have to be vacated as well, although the consul has until April 24 to do so.
Even as Russian diplomats vacate the buildings, the Russian flag displayed at the consul’s residence will remain, Russian ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov told journalists.
“It’s a decision of principle – we’re not removing the flag. We are leaving the matter of the flag’s safety to the decency of our American colleagues,” Antonov said.
US spy services are in a rush to recruit the diplomats as they pack up to go back to Russia, both the Russian Foreign Ministry and ambassador Antonov have said.
“We know of approaches made to our diplomats, to our colleagues. Attempts are being made to persuade them to cooperate with the American special services,” Antonov said. “It’s all covered up with sweet-sounding promises and words, but essentially, the problem remains the same: they are being offered cooperation in the interest of the United States of America.”
On Monday, the US announced the expulsion of 60 Russian diplomats and the closure of the Seattle consulate in connection with the UK’s accusations against Russia in the Sergei Skripal poisoning case. The former double agent was affected by what London says is a Soviet-made nerve agent, although it is yet to produce the evidence to support the claim. Moscow has been denying the accusations. As a punitive measure, the UK expelled 23 Russian diplomats, accusing them of being covert intelligence agents. A number of European states, as well as the US, Canada, Australia and others, followed suit, with the US sending away by far the largest number, all claiming the Russian diplomats were actually unregistered spies. Most other countries expelled one to four people each.
Moscow has retaliated with tit-for-tat measures, expelling the same number of diplomats of those countries from Russian territory. It also shut down the UK consulate in St. Petersburg and ordered London to reduce its diplomatic presence in Russia to match the number of Russian diplomats in the UK.
The Russian government has announced that they will expel American diplomats and close the St. Petersburg consulate.

“The way to have good and safe government is not to trust it all to one, but to divide it among the many, distributing to every one exactly the functions he is competent to.
Let the national government be entrusted with the defense of the nation, and its foreign and federal relations; the State governments with the civil rights, law, police, and administration of what concerns the State generally; the counties with the local concerns of the counties, and each ward direct the interests within itself.
It is by dividing and subdividing these republics from the great national one down through all its subordinations, until it ends in the administration of every man’s farm by himself; by placing under every one what his own eye may superintend, that all will be done for the best.
What has destroyed liberty and the rights of man in every government which has ever existed under the sun? The generalizing and concentrating all cares and powers into one body.”

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Dubai investigators on Tuesday closed the case into the death last weekend of Indian movie icon Sridevi, calling it an accidental drowning.
The 54-year-old Sridevi, who was known by only one name, drowned in a hotel bathtub after losing consciousness, officials said. Police officials have said the autopsy also revealed alcohol in her system.
“The case has now been closed,” the state-run Dubai Media office tweeted.
Her family brought the actress’ body to Mumbai in a private plane owned by Anil Ambani, a wealthy Mumbai-based industrialist, on Tuesday night. Several Bollywood personalities and a large number of her fans were at the airport to pay homage to Sridevi.
Her cremation is scheduled for Wednesday, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.
Her husband, Boney Kapoor, is a well-known Bollywood film producer.
Sridevi’s death has been front-page news in India, where Bollywood stars command an almost mythical status. Fans have been gathering in front of the Mumbai home of her brother-in-law, prominent actor Anil Kapoor.
The coverage has been both lurid and restrained, with one TV station showing a reporter talking about her death from inside a bathtub, and many newspapers not mentioning the alcohol reports.
Sridevi was the most famous Bollywood actress of the 1980s and ’90s, and the first woman to get top billing in an industry then completely dominated by men.
Starting out as a child star in south Indian regional movies, she later became known for her impeccable comic timing as well as her dancing skills — a serious asset in a country where song-and-dance melodramas are a movie staple.
She was embalmed Tuesday in a simple government-run mortuary in a dusty neighborhood of squat, square buildings that house some of Dubai’s immense population of foreign workers, many of whom come from South Asia.
On Tuesday afternoon, a crowd of Indian laborers gathered around a fence near the mortuary, looking in and talking softly among themselves about her.

Walmart is closing 63 Sam’s Club stores across the U.S., the company told Business Insider on Thursday afternoon, after reports of abrupt store closings began to emerge.
Quotes in the article
Sam’s Club has not said how many employees are losing their jobs. Each Sam’s Club warehouse employs about 175 people, meaning more than 11,000 people could be impacted.
In some cases, employees were not told their store had closed before showing up to work Thursday. Those employees learned their store would be closing when they found the store’s doors locked and a notice announcing the closing, Sam’s Club workers told Business Insider. At some stores, employees were turned away by police officers.
Ten of the affected stores will be turned into e-commerce distribution centers, and employees of those stores will have the opportunity to reapply for positions at those locations, a Walmart official said.
The remaining stores will stay open for several weeks before closing permanently. All of the affected stores were scrubbed from the Sam’s Club website on Thursday morning.
Sam’s Club CEO John Furner notified employees of the closures in a company-wide email sent Thursday.
“After a thorough review, it became clear we had built clubs in some locations that impacted other clubs, and where population had not grown as anticipated,” Furner said in the email. “We will be closing some clubs, and we notified them today. We’ll convert some of them into eCommerce fulfillment centers — to better serve the growing number of members shopping with us online and continue scaling the SamsClub.com business.”
Sam’s Club membership fees — which cost $45 annually — will be refunded to customers affected by the closings, a Walmart official said.
The closings came on the same day Walmart announced plans to raise starting hourly wages to $11, expand employee benefits, and offer workers bonuses of up to $1,000.
Some Sam’s Club employees were informed of the closings via notices that were sent through FedEx on Thursday.
“FedEx showed up at my door with a package from Sam’s Club and I was thinking that maybe it was my W-2,” Nic Townsend, an employee of a Sacramento, California, Sam’s Club, told Business Insider. “It was a letter saying they are closing down. … I’m unsure of what to do I have a baby and a mentally sick mother. I’m lost. I’m heartbroken. I’m scared.”
After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we’ve decided to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy. Closing clubs is never easy and we’re committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition.

Three of the closures are in hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico.
“The Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, store closed without notice — over 950 people without jobs,” Eliezer Cabrera, a Sam’s Club shopper, told Business Insider. “This is the last thing Puerto Rico needed after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.”
Here’s a list of closings rounded up from local media reports and Sam’s Club employees who contacted Business Insider. The list will be updated as we learn of additional locations:

South Africa and Lesotho decided to close the Qasha’s Nek border port of entry on Friday because of dangerous conditions caused by heavy snowfalls.
“A heavy disruptive snowfall at the port has created harsh conditions for travellers from both countries, resulting in extremely dangerous underfoot conditions for all including officials,” said a statement issued on Friday by department of home affairs spokesman Thabo Mokgola.
Telephone lines have been damaged and electricity outages reported in the area.
The border post is close to Matatiele.
“There is no traveller movement currently due to the snow conditions. The hostile weather conditions have uprooted electricity poles whilst wires have been disconnected. To this end, electricity has been cut off and telephone lines are also down,” said Mokgola. Eskom is attempting to restore power to the area.
Heavy snowfall could be seen in a Friday morning satellite image posted on Twitter by the South African Weather Service.
