Why People Think Prince Charles Isn’t Harry’s Real Dad – Truth Behind Rumors That James Hewitt Is Secretly Prince Harry’s Dad

This is Prince Harry, AKA Henry Charles Albert David, fifth in line to the British royal throne, and youngest son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana:

But due to the fact that people love themselves a conspiracy theory, Harry’s paternity has been called into question over the years by people who believe that his real father is Princess Diana’s riding instructor, a man named James Hewitt. AKA this handsome gent:

“Hi, it me, James Hewitt.”

Conspiracy theorists often point to the fact that both Harry and Hewitt have red hair, and also the fact that they look, ummmmm, basically the exact same. So let’s unpack this thing, shall we?

It’s a fact that in 1986, just two years after Prince Harry was born, Princess Diana started an affair with Hewitt the Horse Whisperer—which went on for five years. Princess Diana herself admitted that she and Hewitt had an affair during a BBC Panorama program in 1995.

Meanwhile, Hewitt mused in an interview, “It was never her intention to fall in love with me, and it was certainly not my intention to fall in love with Diana, but it happened because of the circumstances throwing us together. […] It’s very difficult to say how physical she wanted the relationship to become. And I’m not going to suggest one way or the other whose fault it was, it developed and it was mutual.”

If you’re in need of more receipts, meet Diana’s former body guard Ken Wharfe—who wrote in his book Diana: Closely Guarded Secret that “The pair usually met at an old cottage in Devon belonging to Shirley, Hewitt’s mother, where the creaking bedroom floorboards told the story more loudly than any confession.”

For what it’s worth, Hewitt and Diana seemed very much in love, and the man himself says that they dreamed of being able to spend the rest of their lives together before breaking up after news of the affair worked its way into the media. “Although neither of us said anything I think both of us realized the situation was impossible,” Hewitt explained. “It was more and more obvious to me that she wanted to finish the relationship… it just fizzled out.”

Please prepare your eyeballs because everything you thought you knew about Prince Harry’s parentage is about to be called into question.

Exhibit A:

Here is Hewitt playing polo at age 33 in 1991 (the exact same age that Harry is today) and Harry playing the game last year.

Exhibit B:

By comparison, here’s Prince Charles playing Polo, also in his thirties:

Exhibit C:

This is Prince Harry and Hewitt side-by-side sporting very similar facial features:

Exhibit D:

And this is Prince Harry side-by-side with Prince Charles:

While the royal family generally lives by the motto “never complain, never explain,” there have been concerted efforts to shut down rumors about Harry’s parentage over the years.

1. In 2002, Hewitt told the Sunday Mirror, “There really is no possibility whatsoever that I am Harry’s father. I can absolutely assure you that I am not. Admittedly the red hair is similar to mine and people say we look alike. I have never encouraged these comparisons and although I was with Diana for a long time I must state once and for all that I’m not Harry’s father. When I met Diana, he was already a toddler.”

2. In 2002, Diana’s bodyguard Ken Wharfe wrote in his book Diana: Closely Guarded Secret, “The malicious rumors that still persist about the paternity of Prince Harry used to anger Diana greatly. The nonsense should be scotched here and now. Harry was born on 15 September 1984. Diana did not meet James until the summer of 1986, and the red hair, gossips so love to cite as proof is, of course, a Spencer trait.”

3. In 2017, Hewitt went on an Australian TV show and shot down the rumors yet again, saying, “It’s worse for [Harry than it is for me], probably, poor chap.”

4. In 2017, Diana’s butler Paul Burrell said, “I never heard any of the Royal Family discussing James Hewitt being Harry’s dad because we knew the truth. It’s something that’s been made up. It was just because Harry had red hair, but all the Spencers have red hair.”

Okay, so no, Prince Harry is almost certainly not Hewitt’s son—despite the striking physical resemblance. And while their twinning vibes do have us positively shewk, please note that Royal biographer Penny Junor claimed that back in 2003 the News of The World tested Prince Harry’s hair (take this with a huge grain of salt) and the test was negative. “The News of the World even had strands of Harry’s hair DNA-tested in February 2003,” Juror wrote. “And if Harry had been shown to be James Hewitt’s son, you can be sure we’d have known.”

Charles Jenkins, American Held By North Korea For 40 Years After Defection, Dies At 77

Charles Jenkins, a former American soldier who defected across the Demilitarized Zone into North Korea in 1965 and was held by the totalitarian regime for 40 years, died in Japan on Monday at the age of 77.

Jenkins, who was freed in 2004, had lived on Sado Island with his wife, a Japanese woman named Hitomi Soga who herself was kidnapped by North Korea and forced to teach her language to Pyongyang’s spies. Jenkins’ death was first reported by Kyodo News and Japan’s NHK broadcaster, who said the cause was heart failure.

In January 1965, Jenkins decided to cross into the North and desert the U.S. Army in an attempt to avoid serving in Vietnam. He drank 10 beers to soothe his nerves, unloaded his military-issue rifle as a gesture of peace and walked across the border hoping he could travel through the country and possibly seek asylum in Russia.

But those hopes were quickly dashed, he told The Los Angeles Times earlier this year, and Jenkins said in retrospect that a lot of his decisions “don’t make sense now.” He was held for eight years in a room with three other American defectors and forced to memorize information about North Korean founder Kim Il Sung, beaten at times and forced to live in bleak, freezing quarters.

“In North Korea, I lived a dog’s life,” he told the Times. “Ain’t nobody live good in North Korea. Nothing to eat. No running water. No electricity. In the wintertime you freeze ― in my bedroom, the walls were covered in ice.”

Jenkins was eventually moved into his own home, and began to teach English and play roles as an evil American in North Korean propaganda movies.

In 1980, a then 21-year-old Soga was moved into his home by government authorities and they were forced to marry just weeks later. They later fell in love through their mutual hatred of the North, he told the Times, and had two daughters.

“After I met Hitomi, my life changed,” he said, according to NHK.

Soga was released through a deal between the North Korean and Japanese governments in 2002, and Jenkins and their daughters were released themselves two years later in 2004, according to The Washington Post. Then in his 60s, Jenkins was court-martialed on a U.S. Army base in Japan that year and sentenced to 30 days in prison for desertion, but was released early.

He went on to live in Japan with Soga and told Kyodo in 2012 that he was happy with his newfound freedom and his work at a souvenir shop at a local museum on Sado Island.

Shortly after the death of American student Otto Warmbier, who was detained in North Korea after he was accused of stealing a propaganda poster from his hotel, Jenkins said he couldn’t understand why Americans would visit North Korea as tourists.

“It’s crazy,” he said in his interview with the Times. “North Korea will do anything to keep a foreigner.”

DNC chair Perez: 'I heard Charles Barkley loudly and clearly'

WASHINGTON — Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez addressed NBA legend Charles Barkley’s critique of his party during a Wednesday press conference call in which he discussed Doug Jones’s upset victory in Alabama’s special Senate election. Perez suggested he agreed with Barkley’s view that Democrats have taken low-income and African-American voters “for granted.”

“We have to earn back the trust of voters. I heard Charles Barkley loudly and clearly, and I accept his challenge for the Democratic Party moving forward,” Perez said.

Jones became the first Democrat to win a U.S. Senate seat in Alabama in 25 years when he defeated Republican Roy Moore on Tuesday following sexual misconduct allegations against the former judge. Jones’s victory was heavily aided by African-American voters, who turned out in even larger numbers than they did in the 2012 presidential election when Barack Obama, the first black president, was running for his second term. And the African-Americans who voted in Alabama on Tuesday overwhelmingly backed Jones, with 93 percent of black men giving him their vote and 98 percent of African-American women putting their support behind him, per exit polls.

Barkley, an African-American Alabama native who campaigned for Jones, said this should be a “wake-up call for Democrats” during an interview from Jones’s victory party, which aired on CNN Tuesday night.

“Democrats … they’ve taken the black vote and the poor vote for granted for a long time. It’s time for them to get off their ass and start making life better for black folks and people who are poor,” Barkley said. “They’ve always had our votes, and they have abused our votes. … This is a wake-up call for Democrats to do better for black people and poor white people.”

On the conference call the morning after the race, Perez did not dispute Barkley’s claim.

“I think it’s undeniable that, in the past, the Democratic Party all too frequently took voters for granted, especially in communities of color, also frequently as well in rural pockets of our nation. And we’ve suffered the electoral consequences from that,” Perez said.

Democrat Hillary Clinton’s loss to President Trump in the 2016 presidential race has widely been attributed to weakening support among working-class white voters. Clinton also saw less African-American turnout than Obama. Black voters generally back Democrats and are a key part of the party’s coalition.

Perez — who took the reins of the DNC in February and is the first Latino chair of the committee — promised to rebuild the party following Clinton’s loss. In recent months, the party has been on a winning streak in key races with the win in Alabama and victories in gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia. During the conference call on Wednesday, Perez repeatedly described Jones’s victory as evidence of a “new Democratic Party” and said “the days of taking voters for granted are in the rearview mirror.”

“The new DNC is all about organizing in every zip code, leading in every zip code, talking to people and building relationships in every ZIP code,” said Perez. “We understand that so many minority communities across this country, they deserve our attention. They’ve earned our attention, and the new Democratic National Committee is engaging just that.”

Yahoo News asked Perez what strategies the DNC used to boost Jones’s turnout and whether they expect to be able to replicate that success in other races. Perez said almost all of the nearly $1 million the DNC invested in the Alabama Senate race was spent on African-American and millennial turnout. He also said the DNC has increased its investment in state party organizations to focus on “critical communities” and built a $10 million “innovation fund” focused on black, Latino, millennial and rural voters. Specifically, Perez described the African-American vote as key to the party’s future.

“The African-American vote was the linchpin of Doug Jones’s success,” Perez said. “And once again we saw what we’ve seen across the nation: African-Americans generally and African-American women are the backbone of the Democratic Party.”
