Police K9 Attacks, Seriously Injures 6-Year-old Girl as Witnesses Contradict Cop’s Story

Saskatoon, CA — A Saskatoon police K9, a three-year-old Belgian Malinois, reportedly wouldn’t let go of a 6-year-old after the dog attacked the little girl. Predictably, the Saskatoon police department is defending not only its dog but its handler. But if the script was flipped and the family’s dog had attacked the officer, one can bet the policeman would have killed the family dog right in front of its owners.

The incident happened while police were supposedly tracking suspects in the family’s neighborhood. Saskatoon Police Chief Troy Cooper claims the dog has been thoroughly trained and serves an integral part of the law enforcement agency. Cooper defended its training saying:

Our canine officers and their animals are an important part of our organization…The dogs are selected for police work and they all receive extensive training to a provincial standard and that is reviewed annually by supervisors in the unit.

Following the mauling, the Saskatoon PD removed the dog from service and is conducting an investigation into the dog, its training, as well as the actions of its handler. Cooper stated:

This is a working dog…It’s trained to track. It’s trained to protect the handler. It’s trained to do the things it was doing…It acted outside of that training and that’s what we’re investigating.

The tiny child was bitten between the armpit and her hip and while police claimed the dog immediately released when ordered to do so, witnesses claim otherwise.

Autumn Clifford, 6, was attacked and mauled. The vicious attack required numerous stitches to close several deep puncture wounds to her abdomen. Leslie Welder, her mother, said her daughter was simply curious and was immediately attacked. Welder stated:

My other daughter — she’s seven — stated that all Autumn did was look over and say, ‘Oh, look! Puppy!’ And next thing you know he was on her, pulling her down to the ground and attacking her.

Amanda Pritchard, a neighbor, said she witnessed the attack and claims not only did the dog viciously attacker but wouldn’t immediately let go as police contend. She said:

Out of nowhere there was two officers that I saw. One was on top of the dog. Three times he had told the dog to let go. ‘Let go! Let go!,’ he was saying to the dog. The dog did not let go. The dog, in fact, growled at the cop and shook his head like he was going to tear her…All she (Autumn) was yelling was, ‘Ow! Ow! Ow!’

Cooper stated the victim is receiving services but the police chief apparently does not want to minimize the serious nature of the attack. He remarked:

Fortunately, this is a rare occurrence but, having said that, I don’t want to downplay the seriousness of what would have been a terrifying event for a little girl and her family.

As TFTP has reported, police dogs, like deadly weapons, are often just another violent tool in the hands of law enforcement officers used to inflict pain on individuals, many of whom are peacefully protesting what they perceive to be an illegal search or unlawful arrest. In the Saskatoon case, the victim was a child, an innocent bystander, who likely wanted nothing more than to pet the officer’s dog.

As a result of the literally hundreds of violent encounters we’ve documented between police dogs and civilians, it is the stance of TFTP such unpredictable animals should be banned from police service. Not only are police K9’s given law enforcement officer status, defending oneself against being mauled by an officer’s K9 can result in felony charges against a citizen.

Just like police officers should not be treated as a protected class of citizens, so, too, should police K9s not be afforded such protections. Below, our very own Jason Bassler details five reasons why police K9s should be removed from service.

5 Reasons Why Cops Shouldn’t Have K9’s

There have been 3 viral stories in the news recently involving police dogs. It inspired us to take an in-depth look at the use of police K9’s. Here are 5 reasons why cops should no longer use K9’s! Join Us & Help: Police The Police ✌️(Tap For Volume 🔊 – Captions Included)

250,000 people could die if Saudi-led coalition attacks Yemeni port city Hodeidah – UN official

“A military attack or siege on Hodeidah will impact hundreds of thousands of innocent lives,” Lise Grande, the UN’s humanitarian coordinator in Yemen, said in a Friday statement.

“In a prolonged worst case, we fear that as many as 250,000 people may lose everything — even their lives.”

Her comments come just five days after The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that the Saudi-led coalition is seeking direct help from the US to regain the port city which 400,000 people call home.

That report prompted warnings from various human rights groups, with the fear that a large amount of lives could be lost – not just because the city is densely populated, but because others outside the city also depend on goods coming into the port.

Norwegian Refugee Council spokesman Daniel Gorevan told RT that Hodeidah “is essentially a lifeline for millions of struggling Yemenis. Twenty-two million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, and the goods and the fuel and the medicine that comes through Hodeidah is a lifeline for those people.”

An assault on Hodeidah is being seen as an extremely possible scenario for foreign nationals in the city who have fled the area. “Foreign workers, mostly from Arab and other countries, left Hodeidah for fear of their lives as they may be exploited or used as human shields by the Houthi rebels,” a local military official told the Chinese Xinhua news agency, on condition of anonymity.

The International Committee of the Red Cross also confirmed on Thursday that it is withdrawing 71 staff members out of Yemen.

The Saudi-led coalition launched more than 15 strikes on Hodeidah province on Sunday, according to Saba News Agency. That same day, Houthis vowed to continue their fight for the port city, saying “the West Coast will be a graveyard for the invaders and mercenaries.”

Meanwhile, the Norwegian Refugee Council’s regional director for East Africa and Yemen, has called for an investigation into a recent airstrike on the capital Sanaa that injured seven civilians, including four children, and almost hit the NGO’s office.

Yemen has been engaged in a civil war since March 2015, with the Saudi-led coalition waging a campaign to restore former president Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi to power. An ongoing aerial bombardment and blockade of the country has contributed to millions of people needing humanitarian assistance, pushed people to the brink of famine, and led to a major cholera outbreak.

Mosque and Sikh temple set on fire in arson attacks on same night in Leeds, UK

Two places of worship in Beeston have been targeted by arsonists in what police believe were linked hate crimes.

Just before 4am this morning, the front door of the Jamia Masjid Abu Huraira – also known as Beeston Central Mosque – on Hardy Street was deliberately set alight using what is thought to have been flammable liquid. Fire crews managed to contain the blaze before it spread.

At around the same time, a fire was reported at the nearby Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha, a Sikh gurdwara on Lady Pit Lane. The front door was alight and damage was caused to the door and a pillar.

Detective Inspector Richard Holmes, of Leeds District CID, said: “We are treating both these incidents as linked given the closeness of the locations and the similar times that they have occurred.

“While our investigation is still at a relatively early stage, we do believe these premises have been specifically targeted as places of worship and we are treating both incidents as arson and hate crimes. “We are currently carrying out extensive enquiries, including checks on CCTV in both areas, and we would like to hear from anyone who has witnessed any suspicious activity or seen any person or vehicles in the areas around the time these incidents have occurred.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who has any other information that could assist the investigation. “Clearly we will always treat incidents of this nature very seriously and will be doing everything we can to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.”

Inspector Ian O’Brien, who heads neighbourhood policing for south Leeds, said: “These incidents will cause an understandable level of concern in both the Muslim and Sikh communities in this area and we are working closely with key representatives from those communities to reassure them.

“Although it appears both locations have been specifically targeted as places of worship for these communities, there is nothing at this stage to suggest they are part of any wider pattern.

“We have increased our patrols of the area to provide visible reassurance to people living there and will continue to keep key community representatives informed as the investigation develops.

“Hate crimes that target particular communities and have the potential to cause divisions and tensions cannot and will not be tolerated and we will continue to do everything we can to find those responsible and support and reassure the communities affected.”

Cryptocurrency blockchains being sabotaged in "51 percent attacks" to steal virtual coins

Image: Cryptocurrency blockchains being sabotaged in “51 percent attacks” to steal virtual coins

(Natural News)
The plotline of the recently-aired season finale of the fifth season of Silicon Valley eerily came to life this past week when nearly $20 million worth of cryptocurrency was stolen from online exchanges.

Crypto-mining thieves reportedly took over the digital currency platforms and proceeded to claw whatever they could from user accounts, capturing tens of millions of dollars’ worth of Bitcoin Gold, Verge and Monacoin.

The real-life heist occurred just days after a similar fictitious one was depicted on an episode of Silicon Valley. Known as a “51 percent” attack, a grouping of crypto miners on the show collectively seized control of a crypto platform and proceeded to rob it blind.

At the time when the episode aired, 51 percent attacks were believed to be merely theoretical – a far-fetched possibility that could one day strike the crypto world. But when one occurred just a few days later, it revealed the true vulnerability of the crypto world. (Related: Wall Street Journal confirms Bitcoin is a bust.)

The way it works is that, similar to more popular cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, the three aforementioned cryptos are verified by the larger crypto-owning community. Thousands or even millions of computers worldwide essentially independently verify the movement of each crypto blockchain, tracking and updating the distributed ledgers that basically keep track of the total amount of digital money that’s present.

During a 51 percent attack, however, this independent, open-source model is replaced by a smaller grouping of malicious users who essentially hijack the majority of the network’s total computing power – hence the 51 percent – in order to redirect other people’s online funds into their own accounts.

In essence, by capturing a majority of the network, hackers are able to forge transactions in their own favor. This includes giving them the power to spend the same coins twice, for instance, completely undermining the integrity of the blockchain network.

“In cryptocurrencies, the longest chain of transactions becomes ‘the’ blockchain that describes the current state of the system,” explains Motherboard.Vice.com. “Malicious miners can take advantage of this if they control the majority of the network’s computer power. A miner that achieves this can privately mine blocks at a pace that overtakes the original blockchain, essentially creating a fork.”

Are Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum at risk of a similar 51 percent attack in the future?

Researchers familiar with how cryptos work have long warned that such attacks are a theoretical possibility. When two attacks of this nature occurred to smaller and more unknown cryptocurrencies back in 2016, this theoretical possibility became an actual possibility – especially for the major cryptos like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The reason nobody’s been concerned since about a 51 percent attack on a major crypto network is that it’s much more difficult, if not impossible, to hijack a blockchain of any notable size. One would need an inordinate amount of computing power – enough to fill multiple large, dedicated warehouses full of servers. It would also be prohibitively expensive to hijack, say, the Bitcoin network, because its market cap has reached the hundreds of billions.

Another disincentive is the fact that performing such a heist on a major crypto could destroy its value, which would make it essentially worthless for the hackers trying to steal it. Still, there are concerns among some that the Wild West of online cryptocurrency is on the verge of becoming even wilder.

“In the past, miners have been quite docile and compliant, partly because they lacked the technical sophistication to launch attacks, and partly because there weren’t that many options on which coins to attack,” says Emin Gün Sirer, an assistant professor researching distributed systems at Cornell University. “We are now beginning to see miners act more strategically.”

Carl Bernstein Warns Of 'Authoritarianism' As Trump Repeatedly Attacks Mueller Probe

Legendary journalist Carl Bernstein warned President Donald Trump’s attacks on special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation could have very real ― and very dangerous ― implications for the United States.

Bernstein, who broke the infamous Watergate scandal in the early 1970s with his partner Bob Woodward, discussed the matter during a Sunday appearance on CNN:

“I think we can look at a big picture now with some real definition,” Bernstein said, “in which [it’s a] perilous moment for our country right now.”

“It’s a question of whether lies, authoritarianism and the character of the president of the United States are going to take us to an authoritarian place where we have never been,” he continued, “in which he will bury a duly constituted and legal investigation that will determine whether or not the president is above the rule of law.”

Trump has repeatedly attempted to smear the credibility of Mueller and his investigation into Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Trump mourned on Sunday the “young and beautiful” lives “destroyed” by the “phony” Russia probe, tweeting that many of them “went back home in tatters.” It’s unclear who Trump was referring to in his tweet, but at least 19 people, including several of Trump’s former campaign associates, have been charged in the investigation.

“What we are seeing, and what Donald Trump understands and the reasons he wants to bury, demean, undermine and put this investigation out of business for all time, is he knows Mueller has the ability and the facts to reveal him … in a really terrible light,” Bernstein said Sunday.

“Mueller has enough to show Donald Trump and his lies in a way that definitely the American people, including a lot of Fox viewers perhaps, may be convinced that we are seeing a false narrative by the president of the United States,” he continued. “Trump does not want this story told. That’s the bottom line.”

9,191 people died of animal attacks across India in 2017-18 – the highest in 5 years

Charging elephant

Between April 2017 and March of this year, more than 9,100 people have been reported dead because of animal attacks, stings from reptiles and scorpions. This record is considered to be the highest in the last five years, as stated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a query to the Right to Information. This is just the reports telling the rates and there would be many more cases that couldn’t have been possible to make it to the medical departments.

This brings to the average of 766 deaths every month for over 12 months. According to the latest received data, from April 2018, there have been more 143 animal bites and attacks that also resulted in deaths in India out of which 140 cases of them were found to be from the rural areas.

The most number of deaths by animal attacks and bites in Madhya Pradesh was recorded to be 1,472 while Bengal and Maharashtra followed with 1, 101 and 905 deaths. There have been 400 to 700 numbers of deaths from the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Odisha all combined. People who died due to animal bites in the time between April 2016 and March 2017 was 7,556 and people who died due to animal stings and bites from April 2015 to March 2016 is 8, 354.

Romulus Whitaker, a Padma Shri award winner and a world-renowned herpetologist was reported saying that anti-venom is not being distributed, there are more than 50,000 snake bike deaths that are reported in India which is a subject of shame for the government as hardly any major steps are being taken to control these huge numbers and save lives of the innocents.

From April 2017 to March 2018, 8,759 deaths from the 9, 191 deaths were reported to be from the rural areas. Tushar Ramesh Bhosale, Mumbai advocate who filed the RTI, has to say that the rate of death is increasing because of the poor medical facilities available in the rural areas in India. He was reported saying that, this data is only a glimpse of what is actually happening on the ground, and the number of deaths will only keep increasing if the anti-venom or anti-rabies vaccinations are not provided to the most remote healthcare facilities in India.

Because of the carelessness and poor first aid provided to the victims of animal attacks, people die every year in India and the rates of death is shocking. The government needs to make strict actions in order to reduce the death rates by providing the medicals and hospitals the required anti-venoms and proper treatment facilities otherwise the death rates will only grow.

Sitapur dog attacks in India: Eight-year-old succumbs to injuries – local death toll increases to 14

canine attack

After battling for life for over 24 hours, Sonam, 8, succumbed to her injuries inflicted by a pack of feral dogs in Khairampur village of Sitapur’s Manpur area on Friday morning. With her death, the toll since November has risen to 14. Of these, eight were killed and six severely injured only this month.

“The girl died around 8 am on Friday morning at Sitapur district hospital,” said Om Prakash, station officer (SO), Manpur police station. “She had suffered multiple injuries on throat and hands and according to doctors, throat injuries proved fatal. She remained unconscious throughout,” said the SO.

The girl was attacked when she had gone to attend nature’s call along with some other children near her village at around 6.30 am. “Group of villagers who were irrigating the field nearby rescued the girl after hearing her screams. However, by then the pack of dogs had already badly injured her,” said the SO.

According to villagers, there were at least 7-8 feral dogs, who after attacking the girl fled towards another village.

The SO said attack was on the same pattern as those reported in the past few weeks.

While extensive combing operations is on in villages affected by canine scare, the pack of dogs remained untraceable till Friday evening.

As a precautionary measure, drummers and announcers had been deployed by the district administration to alert people about feral dogs in Khairabad area of Sitapur, the SO said.

Apart from 22 villages most affected by dog attacks, district officials have marked 26 other villages for their operation where sightings of feral dogs were reported.
