U.S. Citizens Say They Were Detained By Border Patrol Agent For ‘Speaking Spanish’

Two U.S. citizens said they were detained last week by a Border Patrol agent in Montana after he overheard them speaking Spanish to each other in a convenience store.

Ana Suda and Mimi Hernandez said they’d popped into the store in Havre, a small town near the border with Canada, early Wednesday morning when they were approached by a uniformed Border Patrol agent, KRTV reported.

The two women, who are Mexican American, had been chatting in Spanish while waiting in line to pay for eggs and milk when ― to their incredulity ― the agent asked them for their IDs.

“I looked at him like, ‘Are you serious?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, very serious.’” Suda, who was born in Texas, told The Washington Post of the encounter.

Outside, in the parking lot, Suda began filming the agent on her phone. She asked him why he’d been compelled to detain them. He told her that their use of Spanish had caught his attention.

“Ma’am, the reason I asked you for your ID is because I came in here, and I saw that you guys are speaking Spanish, which is very unheard of up here,” the agent can be heard saying in the cellphone footage.

He then denied that the women had been racially profiled.

“It has nothing to do with that,” the agent said in the clip. “It’s the fact that it has to do with you guys speaking Spanish in the store ― in a state where it’s predominantly English-speaking.”

Suda told MTN News that even after seeing their IDs, the agent did not let them leave the parking lot for about 35 minutes. She said her husband, a former probation officer with the Montana Department of Corrections, criticized the agent for overstepping the limits of his position.

“He thinks it is very bad what this guy was doing because he does not have the right to do it,” Suda told the outlet.

A spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection told HuffPost on Monday that the agency was reviewing the incident to ensure “all appropriate policies were followed.”

“U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and officers are committed to treating everyone with professionalism, dignity and respect while enforcing the laws of the United States,” the rep said in a statement. “Although most Border Patrol work is conducted in the immediate border area, agents have broad law enforcement authorities and are not limited to a specific geography within the United States. They have the authority to question individuals, make arrests, and take and consider evidence.”

According to the CBP website, the Havre Border Patrol Sector, headquartered in Havre, is “responsible for 456 miles of border area between Montana and Canada, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah, as well as, part of Idaho.”

Suda, who plans to take legal action over the incident, said she and Hernandez were deeply shaken by the encounter and remained in shock.

“My family was asking me, because my family is still in Texas, and they were asking me, how is Montana about this? I said I have never had a problem before,” she told MTN News. “I say Montana is perfect. I love the people here, the people are so nice. It is nicer than other states. I cannot believe this happened.”

She said she was especially alarmed by her 7-year-old daughter’s reaction to the incident.

“When she saw the video, she was like, ‘Mom, we can’t speak Spanish anymore?’” Suda told the Post. “I said ‘No. You be proud. You are smart. You speak two languages.’ This is more for her.”

People on social media have reacted with horror to Suda’s video and story.

“Since when is speaking a foreign language criminally suspect?” asked one Twitter user on Sunday.

This story has been updated with comments from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Paddock 2.0? Man Claiming to Be Federal Agent Found in Hotel With Arsenal & Psych Meds

Waikiki, HI – After a man’s social media posts were flagged by the FBI, a tip to the Honolulu Police resulted in officers finding a large cache of loaded weapons during a welfare check at his hotel room.

Hawaii News Now reported that the FBI alerted local authorities to “suspicious” social media posts in which a person was claiming to be a federal agent. The specific contents of the messages or how the FBI was initially alerted has not been made public.

In an email regarding the incident, the Honolulu Police Department stated:

“HPD officers responded to a report of a suspicious male in Waikiki yesterday. The male was located and taken to a hospital for evaluation, where he remains. No charges have been filed at this time.

Investigators recovered the man’s belongings, which included firearms and knives. HPD and FBI investigators are continuing to work on this case, and no further information is being released at this time.”

Strangely, the 38-year-old man reportedly told law enforcement that he was on a mission hunting terrorist cells, according to Hawaii News Now.

The arsenal of weapons found in the man’s possession included:

  • An AR-15, and 15 high-capacity magazines—all loaded.
  • A shotgun and two handguns.
  • A total of more than 800 rounds of ammunition, plus body armor, camouflage, masks and 18 military-style knives.

While weapons were subsequently found to be legally owned by the man, and having them in his hotel room did not violate any laws, the suspect was put on a psychiatric hold after police reportedly found psychiatric medication in his room, which allowed them to confiscate the firearms until a mental health evaluation had been performed.

“There was no danger,” said Mike Dailey, manager at the hotel. “The gentleman was here. He was a guest staying here. He left and then there was an FBI and police investigation.”

“He had a room here and they’re looking at the stuff in his room,” Dailey added. I don’t know that there are any weapons. I think you’ll have to talk to the police about that.”

The man is reportedly a local resident who has lived in Waikiki for 3 years. Police sources claim that he said he brought the weapons and ammunition to his hotel room over the course of a few days. Law enforcement took him to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation; where, if deemed mentally fit, his weapons could be returned.

Oddly, the scene in the hotel room sounds eerily similar to that of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, which is still shrouded in mystery—the Las Vegas massacre at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in October 2017.

Since the attack on Oct. 1, there has been a consistent lack of transparency that has raised questions as to whether some type of cover-up was ongoing. Legitimate inquiry into the attacks has reportedly been shut down at the highest levels, and high-ranking FBI officials in Washington have been accused of working to conceal the information.

The FBI’s “official” narrative goes something like this: suspect Stephen Paddock was a mysterious lone wolf gunman. He was a mystery man and habitual gambler who snapped, bought guns, and shot up a music festival—and no one knows why.

This massive cover-up involves the FBI attempting to hide the fact that they have evidence that the election of President Trump was a catalyst for the radicalization of Paddock—and that other persons of interest could potentially be involved in the massacre.

The rabbit hole is deep.

More recently, on March 25, a man named Francho Bradley—who also claimed to be on a secret government mission—was arrested by Tewksbury Police following a search of his hotel room that uncovered a massive cache of firearms, including an AR-15 with a bump stock, other rifles, handguns, 3 silencers, ammunition, smoke grenades, flash bangs, a rocket launcher, cellular phones and even satellite phones—much of equipment that would be needed to conduct a black-op shooting in the vein of the Las Vegas shooting.

After being given consent to search the hotel room by Bradley, a detective found three parking tickets from Cambridge Street at Anthem Street and Second Street. According to the police report, detectives believed that Bradley may have been out surveilling the area:

As I entered back into the hotel room, Offficers McMahon and Adams stood by with Francho. I entered the room and saw parking tickets from Cambridge at Athenaeum Street and Second Street. Two of the tickets were at the same exact location two days apart and the third was from an area a short distance away on a third day. I found this to be odd because according to Francho’s statements prior he had no ties to Boston or Cambridge but he kept receiving parking tickets. Based on his frequent trips from Cambridge to Tewksbury and arsenal of weapons, my suspicions grew that he may be surveilling an area. It should be noted that I knew there was a major demonstration “March for Our Lives” in Boston that day.”

Perhaps not so coincidentally, Bradley is deeply immersed in the U.S. national security apparatus, as evidenced by a report from Heavy.

While these three events could be completely unrelated, they seem to share some very interesting similarities and are most certainly worth further investigation.

Ex-CIA Agent Recounts Violent Arrest on Capitol Hill for Protesting CIA Torture

Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern, a decorated intelligence officer who served under seven presidents, was rushed out of the Senate for speaking out of turn as an audience member during Haspel’s confirmation hearing. As a former CIA employee, McGovern seemed intent on letting Congress know he didn’t think it was prudent for someone intimately involved with the CIA’s illegal torture program to be running the agency.

According to McGovern, Haspel’s lack of fitness is closely linked to America’s “cardinal sin” of racism, he told Radio Sputnik’s Loud & Clear.

“You can’t torture people who look like you. You can, but it’s much more — much more — difficult. You look at the people we’ve tortured; they don’t look like us. We call them ‘towel-heads,’ we call them ‘camel-jockeys.’ By ‘we’ I say — our soldiers are indoctrinated to do that,” McGovern told host John Kiriakou, himself a former CIA agent who led the capture of al-Qaeda logistics operative Abu Zubaydah in 2002, and host Brian Becker.

“Once you marginalize, once you dehumanize people, you could do anything you want,” McGovern continued. “So that’s part of it. That’s also part of what I experienced in my 27 hours in the DC jail with my African-American brothers.”

Zubaydah, a Saudi Arabian citizen, was perhaps the first person subjected to the CIA’s newly launched torture program, which took off after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. After Zubaydah was captured in Faisalabad, Pakistan, in March 2002, he was shipped off to a then-secret prison (or “black site”) in Thailand where he was subjected to “enhanced interrogation techniques” like waterboarding, which would soon become a national buzzword. Haspel oversaw such techniques at the site when she later took it over, and also directed the destruction of documents recording the torture later, when the program was exposed.

In addition to strategizing the most effective cocktail of torture — waterboarding, forced nudity, sleep deprivation and physical assault — Haspel, who is US President Donald Trump’s nominee to become the next director of the CIA, reportedly destroyed video footage of the events in 2005, despite knowing that this violated the law. Since Mike Pompeo resigned from the CIA director’s chair in Trump’s cabinet to assume the office of Secretary of State in April, Haspel has been the acting director of America’s spy agency.

”I would call that ‘obstruction of justice’ and ‘destroying evidence.’ And the last time I checked, those were felonies,” Kiriakou said.

In a video of the assault on McGovern by US Capitol Police, he says, “I wish you wouldn’t beat up an old man. I’m not resisting. No, I’m not. I’m laying on the ground,” as one of his arms is dislocated from its socket by the guards.

“When I went in there, I had no intention to do anything specific,” McGovern told Radio Sputnik.

But then Senator Richard Burr, a Republican from North Carolina who serves as chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, provided what McGovern recalls as entrancing opening remarks.

“I was quite entranced with how Senator Richard Burr from North Carolina, how he started his speech: He said, ‘Now this is an open hearing. And that means we’ll go to closed session for secret stuff. But I suppose there will be some people who want to make a statement — if you want to make a statement, make it quick, quick and be gone.’”

“I said to myself, ‘Wow, maybe I’ll take advantage of that later.’ After an hour and a half of Gina Haspel dodging and weaving, Senator Wyden says, ‘Were you in charge there, at that secret base where al-Nasiri was tortured, yes or no?’ ‘Senator, that’s classified information, we have to go to secret session.’ Now, Wyden ran out of time, right,” McGovern laughed.

“His next question would have been: ‘Well Ms. Haspel, who was it that classified that,’ and she would have had to say, ‘Well I did, actually.’ So he had the spectacle of the nominee classifying, putting out of the public hearing, so that Americans don’t get to know that she was in charge, indeed. Everyone knows she was in charge. Every one of those senators knew because they have the documents. She was in charge of that blacksite in Thailand.”

McGovern continued, referring to himself in the third person. “So here’s McGovern. Finally, the cop between McGovern and Haspel goes to the bathroom… So I go up and say as politely as I can,” ‘I think Senator Wyden is entitled to a straight answer to that question. The answer, of course, is yes, she was in charge. The prospect of her classifying it — ‘ and then, all of the sudden, I was set upon by four uniformed policemen and I lost control of my freedom there. And you saw the rest of it,” McGovern said.

The government charged McGovern with two counts of resisting arrest and unlawfully disrupting Congress, the Washington Examiner reports.

McGovern also lamented changes he perceives at the agency he gave his professional career to. “After 9/11, everything changed, including these people” working at the CIA involved with the enhanced interrogation program under the color of legal authority, he said. “All the sudden, they lost all sense of a moral code. And there they are, whooping up with Gina Haspel.”

Is Kanye West a Kremlin agent? Sure, why not, says Russiagate sage

A string of polarizing statements recently made by the rapper – as well as “recent coordinations” with US President Donald Trump – are all hallmarks of being on Putin’s payroll, Eric Garland, a professional futurist and “strategic intelligence analyst,” tweeted on Wednesday.

Kanye made headlines last week after tweeting out his support for Trump – as well as a torrent of aphorisms and general life advice.

“Call this conspiracy theory if you dare: you ain’t got a better explanation than this, and my sources tell me this is going to come out,” Garland wrote.

However, in a follow-up tweet, Garland briefly considers the impossible. “Other semi-plausible explanation: It’s an asshole convention? More in line with Occam’s Razor,” he pondered, ultimately concluding: “But I’ll stand by the first analysis.”

READ MORE: Freedom of speech but no freedom of thought: Kanye floods Twitter with political and life advice

To illustrate the soundness of his reasoning, Garland furnished two ‘smoking guns’ – a Vogue report detailing a meeting between Kanye and a trendy Russian designer in Moscow, and a CNN story about Kanye’s visit to Trump Tower, where he reportedly discussed “multicultural issues” with the then president-elect.

Garland attempted to connect the two seemingly unconnected meetings by claiming that Kanye met with Trump “two days prior” to flying to Moscow. In actuality, the meeting at Trump Tower was on December 13 – nearly a month after Kanye’s trip to the Russian capital.

However, Garland’s Kanye ‘Kremlin agent’ theory was hard for many to come to terms with. Even respectable, blue-ticked reporters from the Daily Beast struggled to accept that Kanye has been compromised.

Garland is no stranger to tweeting ‘highly credible’ theories. He became a #Resistance hero after (by his own admission) guzzling down amphetamines and craft beer and then writing a 127-tweet thread explaining how Russia installed Trump in the White House. The literary marvel, which made liberal use of caps lock, has since been widely-hailed as Russiagate’s magnum opus.

Former FBI special agent says Andrew McCabe ‘Targeted’, ‘Slandered’ Her

Robyn Gritz - Andy Mccabe

A former FBI counterterrorism agent reacted to an op-ed written by recently-fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

“Not in my worst nightmares did I dream my FBI career would end this way,” McCabe entitled his Washington Post piece published Friday.

Robyn Gritz, who said she served 16 years with the bureau fighting terrorism, told “Fox & Friends” that she celebrated McCabe’s dismissal and that it brought back memories of how he allegedly mistreated her.

Gritz said that she began working with McCabe in 2005 until she ultimately resigned several years later.

She said McCabe retaliated against her for filing a harassment claim against one of her supervisors.

Gritz said that, while working as a “detailee” to the CIA, her boss began “scrutinizing [her] work and asking questions” about her purportedly being “fragile” after her divorce.

“He made some discriminatory comments about why I was traveling and such,” Gritz said of her boss at the time, who was not McCabe.

When she heard that the boss was making similar comments to a black coworker, Gritz said she decided to file a complaint against him.

Gritz said when she filed the suit, McCabe signed off on an internal investigation against her, adding that “he know that I was either filing or going to file the [case].”

“I went through hell for a year and a half,” she said. “Andy made sure I couldn’t get out of the division.”

Gritz said that McCabe additionally made “nasty, false” comments about her in a meeting — “lying,” she said. “which is why he just got fired.”

She said she was at a restaurant when news of McCabe’s dismissal this month reached her, and that she verbally reacted with joy.

Gritz added that dozens of former FBI coworkers called her to celebrate McCabe “being held accountable.”

Toxic Agent Planted in Luggage of Sergey Skripal’s Daughter?

Toxic Agent Planted in Luggage of Sergey Skripal’s Daughter?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

The unconvincing claim reported by the UK Telegraph, picked up by Reuters and other media, would be implausible even in a Jean le Carre, James Bond or Agatha Christie thriller.

According to the Telegraph, “(t)he nerve agent that poisoned Russian spy Sergei Skripal was planted in his daughter’s suitcase before she left Moscow, intelligence agencies now believe,” adding:

Unnamed “(s)enior sources told the Telgraph…the toxin was impregnated in an item of clothing or cosmetics or else in a gift that was opened in his house in Salisbury, meaning Miss Skripal was deliberately targeted to get at her father.”

The above is utter rubbish. Only Sergey Skripal, his daughter Yulia visiting from Moscow, and police detective Nick Bailey investigating the alleged poisoning are seriously ill, according to what’s been reported.

Yulia Skripal arrived in Britain from Moscow on March 3. According to an unnamed source the Telegraph cited, “it was straight forward for the assassins to break into Ms Skripal’s apartment in Moscow and plant the nerve agent in her luggage,” adding:

“The next day, (Skripal and his daughter) drove into Salisbury city center, parking in Sainsbury’s car park at 1.40pm before going to the Bishops Mill pub and on to Zizzi restaurant before collapsing on a bench.”

“Traces of Novichok nerve agent have been found on Col Skripal’s car and in the restaurant and pub.”

It’s unknown what was found there or anywhere else because Theresa May’s government released no information, just unsubstantiated claims – baseless without credible proof.

If traces of a deadly nerve agent were found in public places, countless numbers of people would be seriously harmed, perhaps many already dead.

That’s not the case, an obvious red flag. Another unnamed Telegraph source said “(y)ou would basically need to decontaminate the whole of Salisbury before you could declare it safe to the public.”

Neither the source or the Telegraph explained why no one else anywhere in Britain wasn’t reported ill from toxic agent poisoning.

Carrying a dangerous nerve agent in luggage would risk mass contamination. Clearly the claim is a hoax.

The alleged poisoning of Skripal and his daughter defies credibility. Moscow’s envoy to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Alexander Shulgin said “there was never a scientific program under (the name “Novichok”) in the Russian Federation.

Toxic agent research was conducted by Soviet Russia and America.

So far it’s unclear what happened to Sergey Skripal and his daughter – nothing publicly verified by credible sources.

Former chemical weapons advisor to the UN secretary general Igor Nikulin said Russia never developed the deadly nerve agent allegedly harming Skripal and his daughter.

If they’re seriously ill as reported, Washington and Britain are responsible for what happened, not Russia, Nikulin insists, adding:

“The version with Yulia Skripal’s suitcase is absolutely invented out of thin air.”

“If someone tried to crank up such an operation, it would be the largest terrorist attack in history – (with) hundreds of corpses.”

“It would have touched everyone who was near – passengers on the plane, airport visitors.”

“We know from open sources that the formula was developed in Soviet Russia, but it was never produced and tested.”

America was involved in dismantling the former Soviet facility in Uzbekistan where the code-named “Novichock” was worked on.

“The Americans…took equipment for producing the (toxin) to US territory.” Washington and likely Britain alone alone possess this toxic agent, Nikulin explained.

“This means that” only the US and UK could have used it, if, in fact, any toxin was used against Skripal and his daughter – a scheme to blame Russia for what it had nothing to do with.

“Seventeen years ago in the same small town of Salisbury, where Skripal was poisoned, under mysterious circumstances, another Russian defector, biologist Vladimir Pasechnik was killed,” Nikulin added.

“The deaths of local, British scientists are taking place there with a frightening frequency.”

Britain’s refusal to provide Moscow with samples of the alleged nerve agent used on Skripal and his daughter is clear evidence of a coverup.

If evidence proved it was produced in Russia, Theresa May would want it publicly revealed – quite another matter if made in the USA or Britain, the most likely explanation.

Believe nothing claimed by UK, US or other Western officials, nothing reported by media scoundrels – complicit in the hoax by failing to report accurately on the Skripal incident.

Famed journalist/political critic HL Menchen (1880 – 1956) once said “(t)he whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”

White House denounces U.K. nerve agent attack, mum on Russia

WASHINGTON — The White House on Monday denounced the poisoning of a former Russian spy in England with a nerve agent as “an outrage” but did not echo London’s charge that Moscow was “highly likely” to be behind the attack.

“The use of a highly lethal nerve agent against U.K. citizens on U.K. soil is an outrage. The attack was reckless, indiscriminate and irresponsible,” President Trump’s press secretary, Sarah Sanders, told reporters. “We offer the fullest condemnation and we extend our sympathy to the victims and their families and our support to the U.K. government. We stand by our closest ally and the special relationship that we have.”

Sanders spoke shortly after British Prime Minister Theresa May told British lawmakers that either the government of Vladimir Putin was directly behind the attack, or Moscow “lost control of this potentially catastrophically damaging nerve agent and allowed it to get into the hands of others.” The attack targeted Sergei Skripal, who passed Russian secrets to the U.K., and his daughter Yulia.

May said that London had demanded an explanation from Moscow by Tuesday.

“Should there be no credible response, we will conclude that this action amounts to an unlawful use of force by the Russian state against the United Kingdom,” she said.

Asked whether the United States could corroborate the U.K.’s attribution, Sanders declined to do so, saying British officials were “still working through even some of the details of that.”

But, she said, U.S. authorities were “ready if we can be of any assistance.”

Sanders’s comments were the first time the White House had spoken publicly about the attack. A Yahoo News request for comment on Friday morning went unanswered.

It was not clear whether Trump and May had discussed the incident. Asked about transatlantic communications on the issue, a U.K. government spokesperson told Yahoo News that “there have been conversations between senior U.S. and U.K. officials. There will be more contact over the coming days.”
