LA Kings promote girls hockey camp July 16 to July 20

The Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League are having an elite camp for girls. The camp will be running July 16 to July 20 at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, Calif. The Toyota Sports Center is the main practice facility for the Kings and the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association. 

The camp is for girls seven years of age or older. It will include dryland training, lunch, and two one hour on ice sessions for five consecutive days. Girls in the mite and squirt divisions will go from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Girls in the peewee, bantam and midget divisions will go from 12:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Registration is $500.00 for skaters and $300.00 for goaltenders. 

The head coach for the elite camp for girls is Hannah Westbrook. Currently, the head coach of the North American Hockey Academy of the Junior Women’s Hockey League in Stowe, Vt., Westbrook played NCAA Division I women’s hockey at the University of Vermont and played professionally in Sweden, Finland and Australia. 

Women’s hockey in the United States is enjoying immense success. At the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, the United States won their first Olympic gold medal since 1998. In the gold medal game, the United States beat Canada 3-2 in a game that required a shootout to determine the Olympic champion.
